  1. Nope, sorry doesn't work that way. Running the wire to the positve side of the coil does nothing on the EA82's, believe me, I've tried. The best approach is the back of the ignition switch. Take the plastic column cover off (there is a bunch of screws underneath) and you'll see the solder contacts. Does anyone know how to disable the steering lock?
  2. Now try that with the hitch attached and see if the front wheels are still on the ground!
  3. The split is under the kickpanel on the Loyale. It is a tannish orange connector that has 2 blue wires spliced into one side. I'm having problems wiring up the lecacy radio, and I noticed that my origional radio was dimming to the beat. the new radio does this too, which it didn't when hooked up to my 2 amp power supply. This makes me think that the stock wiring is much too small. The radio could be rewired to hook up to the lighters wires, which are beefier. I have a bunch of random unconnected wires on both sides of the cut. I still need a supply for when the car is off to keep the settings and the headlights on illumination. Does anyone have a color coded wiring diagram for the radio's in the Loyales and 92 legacys?
  4. I think this is the right forum for justy's, because they started before 1990, so they're old gen.
  5. Thanks. It seems like they should have had a better design, so you could adjust the settings in a parking lot.
  6. While I was stripping my 1986 GL 3-door (EA82), I noticed that the spring landings for the rear springs were height adjustable. I vice gripped the spring up and hammered on the landing and used penetrating oil to get it to move upward, but nothing happened. Am I missing something? Is there a specific tool to adjust them?
  7. I saw my first real live Brat today! I was biking around and heard this loud car pull up at the intersection. It was a silver brat, with cap. It was loud and running sh*tty, bad enough that I didn't recognise it as a subaru engine. It didn't look too rusty, but wasn't cleaned. I'm exicited because I have only seen 1 3-door like mine around and 1 Brat in this area ever. Everyone has wagons. Pity this brat didn't go to a more caring and deserving person.
  8. I spent the afternoon disasembling. I got the hood, quarterpanels, all front lights, windshield wiper motor, interior out of the back, washer containers, bumpers, and front underpan off. The car looks much meaner without all the front end sheetmetal. If i sawzalled off the body where the bumper attaches through in the front, There would be a straight shot for any obstacles to the front wheels. This might be an idea for the offroaders out there. New fenders could be made for over the top out of bent sheet metal. Now that would be cool
  9. I was kicking a hood scoop idea aroung in my head, one that would feed through a filter and MAF straight into the TB. The air would have to make a 180, but that could be used to ditch rainwater. I think it would give a bit of boost at high speeds, where you need it.
  10. will the windshield fit in my 91 wagon? Its fairly new, it got replaced about 6 months before the car was retired. I'm going to cut the body up with a sawzall and bring the pieces to the junkyard that way.
  11. Jeez, no need to go all capitals on me. How was I supposed to know? Have you checked the fuse? Do other accesories work or is just the radio down? unplug the connector behind the radio and use a multimeter (or a taillight with a couple of wires soldered to it) to see if the radio is recieving 12volts. Check each of the pins against ground, one of them sould be live with the car off, and another with that one when the car is on. You could give more information on what you'd already done.
  12. I'm going to be stripping my GL down soon. I want to save the drive train, but I was wondering what other parts to save. It's a 1986 3-door manual GL, carbed. I'm going to try to drop the engine, transmission and front suspension at the same time by undoing the tops of the struts and the crossbars underneath. I want to save the drive train, but I was wondering what other parts to save. Hopefully other people have prior experience with "d*mn, I should have saved that"
  13. First check the fuse in the fuse block under the dash, If that's good, take the radio out (just pull off the surround and you'll see the screws) and swap another from a junkyard in and see if it works. I bet its the fuse.
  14. Do it! There is at least 75 bucks worth of parts left in the front. How far did it get squished, b/c you might still have the rear diff to sell too.
  15. Where do the wires from the front speakers and rear speakers connect?
  16. I'm putting the radio out of a 1992 legacy into my 91 Loyale and splicing the wires to get it to fit. Will I have to rewire the speakers or will the newer radio work with the existing wires? I ask because of the common ground of the earlier ones. How is the common ground worked while each of the speakers have 2 wires running to them? does anyone have knowledge of what each of the different colored wires on the power connector side of the legacy radio are? I can figure out wich wires do what on the old radio as I cut them.
  17. Looked mint. I'd say it was worth 2k. Whatcha gonna do with the money? Buy another soob?
  18. Go for the better milage with better preformance angle. In areas that snow, concentrate on the grip and handling in snow. Video shots of cars zooming down dry highways are nice, but plowing through a foot of snow with more falling and not having to stop is a major benifit to subarus. Pushing capability and performance in the same add would be good. Focus on bad weather, cause thats where the subarus shine. I've convinced a Ford man to switch to subarus because of the miserable experiences he had this winter in his 99 explorer. He was pissed because he was sliding all over the highways while "one of your da+n subarus blew past me." Family safety while tackeling adverse conditions is good. Subaru owners are often people who will stop to think about things, instead of just taking every thing at face value....I think. The ones in this community are much more helpful too. Non of the "Fishizzle, dude I should take a cr*p on yer ride. it suks. Yur gay" B.S. that you see on other boards.
  19. Where exactly do the mice get in? The intake by the hood is to small, the intakes under the quarter panes have mesh, but there is a small gap by the mesh. The only other place is the floor vents, but they'd have to get in the car first. Does andyone know where exactly they go in? I'd love to mesh it over.
  20. There are plenty in southern NH. Just look in people's yards and driveways. There's loads of the old ones just waiting to be wanted. They won't die, but look out of style, so people buy new cars, but don;t wand to junk the subaru be cause it still runs.
  21. I noticed these folds in my legacy, and know I know what they are. http://www.sjblaw.com/news/summer00_p2.html Seems like 6" is a bit much. I can see a couple of inches to try and reduce impact. I wonder if its better to cut the stiches and just let the ratchet take up the extra slack.
  22. "Crime Deterrant": http://www.newspress.co.uk/np12p/subaru/releases/2000/27070im.htm This may be a bad trend for speeders. Crown Vics are one thing, but can you lose a subaru on your tail?
  23. Found this story: http://www.hq.usace.army.mil/cepa/pubs/oldpubs/sep97/story16.htm What a bad way to go. What kind of subi is that?
