  1. The caliper mounting bracket bolts to the backing plate surprisingly enough. I couldnt tell you about moding the existing backing plate. Anything is possible if you try.
  2. I think you would have to contact a moderator and ask one of them to change your profile name.
  3. That does sound like fun,I understand the excitement. However, you must remember most public roads are tools for safe, efficient means of transportation. They are not race tracks. If you want to "drive it like you stole it", please be aware of your surrounding have the respect for your car and others around you. This is simply a reminder. Have fun!
  4. Is this an EA81 '86 gl or EA82? I think EA82 are built into the switch around the column. Good luck!
  5. Yes, Try this! ^ I use the same punch I use for the roll pins. 3/16"
  6. Google can. Here is what I found. 2wd. # 742141241 http://www.buysubarupartsnow.com/oem-part/subaru/gl/1984/base/1-8l-h4-gas/fuel-system/fuel-supply/fuel-tank/742141241 I cant guarantee it. But it may help.
  7. It is always easiest to work on your car while you are near her, not the computer. What year is you car? I shouldn't be talking considering Im sitting on my rump roast..but I know its too easy to let your common sense fly out the door when you have a forum like this to lean on. Get out there and jack the front end up,set it on some stands and try to spin your tires, listen and feel for drag. good luck!
  8. jj421, on 09 Mar 2014 - 01:52, said: Thanks! I chuckled alittle when I read that. I'd say the '82 is more desirable, That particular grill/light combo is an '82 only thing for Brats She looks to have a passing lamp, how 'bout Plaid seats?Or the superior 4 spoke steering wheel. Chrome bumpers for an '82 also! Plus! Even the carpeted bed with the hold down strip still intact is very uncommon to see. '82 all the way!! They are both missing the front mud flaps which always seems to go first, that is kind of a drag.(hint: it reduces the value ) The '86 is probably an '84-85. An '86 would not have Jump seats or the kick step for jump seat passengers. The '86 will have a bit taller gear ratio if that matters to you and it likely has hydro lifters. It has a cleaner wiring layout, and front end part may be alittle easier to find. To some the colors of the '86 may look nicer but personally I would go for the '82 Remember, things are only worth what someone else is willing to pay. Ask your self...... GOOD LUCK!

Bravo sir! I admire your ability to think up something so custom, but still ACTUALLY build it! I wish I had saved a pic I mocked up to the frame in Paint when you first unveiled the body. it was fairly accurate! Keep up the good work, Good luck! Isn't there a follow button up top?
  10. Indeed, that is an epic water line. I wanted to speak up yesterday, but I figure I'd be clogging up the forum with nonsense. Thank you for taking the time to share your badass adventures, you have been a great inspiration for me and Im sure many others too.
  11. That red looks pretty cool, kind of eerie. So, How big is the puddle light housing? Is anybody at risk of hitting their head on it? Or is that something else up there?
  12. That looks like a pretty gnarly setup! Im sure you had a blast! Thanks for sharing. In a sea of Chevys, Fords, Jeeps and Toyotas I spy a Subaru!
  13. I wish you luck with your axle replacement, fighting rust can be a bitch without a vice to hold things in place. As far as the rubber "packing" goes, the driver side rear axle on my EA81 had it but the pass.side did not. It allowed the cup to have some play on the stub, causing a clucking sound from the rear while going over bumps. I simply cut the lip off the smaller end of an old C.V boot and used that as the "packing". It would be best to find an actual bushing or o-ring, But if you have your old boot and a way to cut it, its a free source. Good luck!
  14. Cool, the car looks better then I had expected. Good job on the retrofit, Ill look forward to seeing progress. Here is a link to the respected 88hatchmonster's build thread. Post#16 Shows a good pic of the dropped strut tower. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/141441-my-88-hatch-monster/
  15. Like the Sucker king said, the C.V axle is designed to be a pressed fit through the wheel bearing, the spindles are normally machined slightly larger then the bearing. Your C.V axle was likely the right size, it is the rebuild or re manufactured units that slide right in that have been tampered with. Its an easy install, but its not right.
  16. I just put 2 and 2 together from what has been posted here in the past. The car was owned by a fellow member johnw. He is from the Portland area and had an add up needing to sell it to pay lot fees. I wouldn't have guessed it If you didnt say you bought it off an impound lot,Its not the most common car to be hanging out in an impound Good luck
  17. Is this your car by any chance? I think it was recently impounded.
  18. EA81 GL yes, by about 3" The EA82 GL should be the same as any other EA82 Loyale or DL. Loyale body style was still called GL from 1985-89 Feel free to wait for others input, But I feel this is a solid fact.
  19. My EA82 FSM just isnt as good as the EA81.The EA81 FSM has that info. But based off a quick measurement of my "86 GL EA82 from center strut nut to center strut nut straight across is about 40 1/4"inches. Hope this helps!
  20. To me it sounds like your cone washer is likely grooved or damaged in one way or another causing a loose fit against the hub allowing the axle nut to work loose. The cone washer is a type of lock washer that needs good clean surfaces to lock correctly. Similar to the bevel on a lug nut. You should also make sure the "Spring" washer has the convex side facing out. This could also cause the nut to work loose. Please view the attached info below. Good luck!
  21. Im on my way, hope its not too late to meet up!
