  1. Where is it? I dont see it? Sounds fun though!Good Job!
  2. Reading this makes me nervous! I happen to have quite afew fuseable links in my collection, Im sure I can throw one or two in an envelope and sent 'em your way. Which color happened to burn out? The red one in the center? Make certain to replace fuseable link with proper amperage rating.
  3. I wonder what happened to this car. I can remember seeing it on craigslist awhile back. She still pops into my mind every now and then.
  4. Add more coolant!!You likely have air trapped in the cooling system Park your car nose high, so your heater core is no longer the highest point in the system. Blast the heat, run your car with the radiator cap off. keep an eye on your coolant level. let it get up to temperature and let your thermostat open, make sure your upper hose gets hot too. add more coolant as air bubbles out. Continue until no more air is coming out of the system. It may help to work the air out by massaging the upper hose. You can speed up the warm up process by running the car at about 2,000rpm That should do it, good luck, awesome car by the way. It looks best stock height.
  5. This is a classic read before the board became unsimplified. Too Funny.
  6. That really depends on tire size, and what year of car the transmission came from. It may only apply to 4x4 tranmissions, but I believe the earlier 80-82 4 speeds had lower gearing. I know there is a transmission gearing table floating around here somewhere. I can take a guess and say you will be running around 3,500-4000rpm
  7. Now that is definitely thinking outside of the box! I like it! A great way to fix a weak link.
  8. Its an EA81, You'll be fine! In all seriousness, you should do the job properly. But if its all you have then you may just get away with wiping up the excess grease and running it. Loosing grease will be inevitable with a spinning bearing and a damaged seal, worse case scenario the grease will leave the bearing, contaminating the friction disc causing your clutch to slip and your bearing to run dry and maby seizing?. But Im not sure there is even enough grease in there cause slippage. Are you in the middle of replacing a clutch with new components? How much of the seal broke away?
  9. That is a pretty funny story, perhaps it could be a combo of bad tires and a bad driver? It takes some finesse at times, WOT isnt always key.
  10. That sure is a real clean engine, the whole car is clean for that matter. I wonder, what would cause the valve to go flying out like that?
  11. A quick google search should provide you with adequate information about the product. You would think it would help to know what you are buying before you order it. I personally have never used the Subaru cooling system conditioner, I do know however it is simply a rebranded Holts product. It is added to improve cooling efficiency, lower PH levels and stop/clog minor coolant leaks. If you feel you need head gaskets this product will likely not help. What are your Subaru's symptoms?
  12. Here is a pic from my EA81 showing how a quarter happens to be a perfect fit to block off the Air Injection System at the exhaust manifold. It is good to hear you fixed your Brat! And yes, Thank you USMB!
  13. Thank you all for the feedback. Good info about the intake to a 1.8. I would bet the engine will reseal however I overlayed the firing ring and It has little comfort room to provide a quality seal. Over the weekend a 92 Legacy 2.2 auto wagon showed up in the junkyard. The car was untouched, just minor damage to the pass control arm and fender. It appeared to be intact under the hood so I decided I would pull the engine. I grabbed just the long block for $105 seeing as I already have a good intake,p/s pump, alt ..ect I was very hesetant about dropping and unknown engine in my car and spending the money on clean oil and coolant to test fire, but guess what! The engine fired right up with the slightest bump of the key. IT WAS TOO EASY!!I AM EXCITED!! I have lots to learn about the new platform!! Ive burped the cooling system and I ran about 80 miles, so far so good. I wish I knew for a fact the engine was good cause I know I saw leakage at the coolant crossover and possibly the rear main. I find it funny, the car has 215,000 miles, yet the engine have 256,000 miles. So Im in to the car $450 total including a tube of "the right stuff". She still needs a basic tune up and alot of body work but all in all it have been a blast just working on the damn thing. I need to set this one aside so I can finish my EA81. Thank you.
  14. I finally picked up a 1st gen legacy sedan! Under the condition the car will overheat after 15 minutes of drive time. P.O. said water pump and radiator were replaced last fall but still overheats, been sitting since then. I was hoping for the best and figured it had an air pocket stuck in the cooling system. After a quick check of fluids and a battery, she fired right up. The EJ sounded smooth.I checked the tires, newer federal formozas all the way around. Convenient! I didnt give too muck of a codswallop at that point, I offered him $300. He said thats exactly what he was hoping for! COOL! title signed! keys in hand! Que empty wallet! I proceeded to make a plan with a friend of mine, I gave him the keys to my EA82, and told him to follow closely. The fellow interrupted me to say "the tabs are expired, you are aware? I would recommend trailing it." Its no biggie to me, I had faith I would make the 15-20 mile trip home. So off I went. Of course it was dark and raining, a perfect time to inspect and drive an unfamiliar car. I DID NOT EXPECT A POWERHOUSE!!!!!!!!! WOAH DOGGY!!!!! DO NOT DRIVE A 5 SPEED EJ22 LIKE ITS YOUR OLD EA82! Lets just say my friend couldnt follow closely,.I know I should take it easy on a new car but wow! 3K rpm launches! casually hitting 80mph. WTF!OOPS! Im glad I made it home trouble free. the car never got hot running it like I did , even sitting at long red lights. I now understand the love for an EJ!! And fuel injection!!! Anyway, the next day I drained filled and burped the neglected cooling system and went for a drive. She codswalloping got hot after about 20 minutes of cruising For knowledge sake I decided I would remove the engine from the car and inspect it. It appears the cooling system was constantly topped off with just plain ol water, leaving mineral deposits through out. Next I pulled the heads off just to see. Here is where my concern arises. It appears the coolant had become caustic and ate away some of the aluminum around the cylinder cast. Does this look like it will reseal o.k? Should I spent the money on gaskets? Or scrap the block and pick up an other at the junk yard? Thanks for reading.
  15. Sounds like you have found a fun car to work on. Your engine should be an EA81, which would be original to your 83 wagon. I would say the easiest way to give you a general direction with no pics would be to find your oil cap. First remove the spare tire if it is present.Follow the oil filler neck down to where it bolts to the engine block. In that general area there should be an EGR valve to your left(looking down at the engine from front). and the PCV valve to your right. it will thread into the backside of the intake manifold. there should be a hose that leads upward to a tee, this should connect your drivers side valve cover and pcv to the air cleaner. there is also a little filter inside the air cleaner housing too. I hope that gives you a basic idea. I will do my best to find a pic.
  16. I recently came across a VW Golf Country. I know very little about them but I like the Idea and want to learn more.
  17. I know I saw an EA71 engine with intake at the yard day before yesterday. All he would need is the bare manifold, correct? I will go take a look today and let you know what I may find. That is one cool car, ill do my best to help
  18. This car is really nice! Ive seen it afew time in person.Last time I saw it the rims were painted red. I get excited every time I see the 5 lugs. I want it!
  19. I may be wrong but I want to say they will have some sort of green paint on the inner joint.
  20. Well, the intake manifold has to be removed in order to remove the heads. So, I would start by pulling the intake and inspecting the gasket and sealing surfaces too. Bad intake manifold gaskets would only result in burning coolant. not a mix of oil and coolant.
  21. Sorry, Im just trying to post a pic on the thread, not just a link. I cant figure it out. got some pics. this is the start of a 4" lift. The rear is all bolted up and sitting on the ground. Im still in need of longer shocks though. Imagine if I can get some FOX shocks under her. it would look good. I still have lots of work to do. I will be dropping the front today and measuring/cutting blocks up as I go. I have no idea what to do about the shift linkage, ill worry about it when im looking at it. any t.i.p.s would be helpful, thanks to USMB for helping me thus far!
