If it's not Subaru, then what is it?
81EA81 replied to RedSasha's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
oil pump seals too. Seriously, there needs to be a sticky or a link in the USRM for part numbers, just put an astrick next to the OEM ones or something. list it like Rock Auto would. -
This should be it at rock auto.It dose say its for an 84 brat but it should be the same http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1267725,parttype,1993

Ideas for the faulty EA82 clock
81EA81 replied to 92_rugby_subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How are you supposed to pop the trim off around the clock with out breaking it? mine was already broke. just thinking about when im at the yard -
I like what you have done with everything. you seem to have a great eye for detail. Those wheels look cool. I would love to see your car in person. especially the fiberglass work. Quality job, even your posts

For an 87 Brat with an EA81 and the stock 4 speed has a 21 spline shaft. An EA82 of the same year has a 24 spline shaft. (too big)dont make the mistake I did. I got it all together and had no power to the wheels. So you will need a friction disc for the 21 spline. I think the earlier 80s cars had smaller clutches but im not 100% sure The friction disc from my 86 Brat was 8 7/8" the pilot bearing should be the same between EA81s and EA82s For the throwout bearing in my car I had to press the old bearing off the "holder" and press the new one on. I pulled the tranny when I did it. twice:rolleyes: But ive heard it is easier to pull the engine. depending on the history of your engine this may be the time to change some gaskets. I think that should be it. unless anyone else wants to chime in, maby more detail. good luck:)

So I drained the just the Radiator and refilled it with premix 50/50 antifreeze and it got me down to 4 degree protection. good enough for now but not for the middle of winter. im sure those plugs will come out before winter. While I was running it with the cap off I thought I heard a loud sucking noise coming from the area. I did a quick search and found my intake manifold gasket was smashed and there was tons of air being drawn in. There was a clear noise difference when I put my finger against it.Im sure the seal for the water passage is fine but not the intake its self. My thoughts were that if there is that much air entering there and seeing that I live on a dirt road I will be allowing tons of grit to be sucking down into my cylinders. I would like to order oem gaskets and swap both out before the snow flies but it seems like a big project with all the vacuum lines. Im sure I can get it apart fine its just trying to keep track of what smaller lines went where. Has anybody came up with a method of keeping track of every line during intake removal???Maby 100 different colored sharpies?? It would be very helpfull to find a good method. For a temporary fix I had thought of running a bead of :eek:JB weld:rolleyes: along it just to keep dirt from entering. What do you think? here is a pic of it when I first got the car and I was suspicious of it Its much cleaner now Thanks

What transmission fluid do you use?
81EA81 replied to man on the moon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think Napa has 80w-85w-90 gear oil, thats what I used in the Brat and My 66 Chevy -

DAMN!!!Thats Impressive -
Usually with the 13" rim the best I have seen are studded snow tires.
-
I didnt feel like searching your thread to find it but I saw an EA82 with the same headlight covers you ordered for your car. theses are the only two places I have seen them.

That was my thoughts, thanks for the reinsurance.

I will be changing my coolant soon on my 86 GL EA82. I wish I did it when I did the timing belts but I had no money for coolant and new hoses. Ideally I would get a new OEM thermostat and thermoswitch too. soon to hit 300K I hope:banana: I was curious about the plugs on the bottom of the engine,IS it a good idea to use these? If so do I install them dry? Is Teflon tape safe to use in a high temp situation? Thanks

Light squeal/whistle noise with clutch?
81EA81 replied to 81EA81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
HMMM< sounds almost like a light belt sound, It seems a little louder on your car but its hard to say not hearing it in person. That was what I was thinking the noise was coming from on my car. I dont think it dose it at idle out of gear though. Ill check and let ya know. Just had a thought, It may be the gears in the tranny? I have a Geo Tracker That was run super low on gear oil. But that thing was LOUD and the gear oil in my soob "looks" fresh and is full. -
Light squeal/whistle noise with clutch?
81EA81 replied to 81EA81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
All right, I guess I can deal with that being the cause. The car dose have 288,8872 miles on it. So let me get this straight. I consider a clutch disengaged when there is no power going through the clutch to the tranny, pedal to the floor right? -

Probably, I should be able to find one at a junk yard easy. -
Light squeal/whistle noise with clutch?
81EA81 replied to 81EA81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
IS it the throw out bearing? I thought a throwout bearing would make noise and chatter while the clutch is Disengaged. -
While I was driving my 86 GL EA82 around town today I noticed a slight whistling noise. While I was at a steady speed I put my left foot on the clutch pedal just enough to take the 1/2in of play out with the clutch still engaged and the noise would stop, remove my foot and the noise would return. Any Ideas what could cause such a noise? Thanks

I got the clock out of the dash. Pulled the circuit board out of the case and looked every where for broken connections. the four wires going to the board are 100% intact. What can cause it not to work? -

The clock in my 86 GL Wagon is dead. What needs to be soldered in the clock?I searched in the past with failed results. Thanks -
Funny seeing this thread, I was soon to ask the same question. The column in my 86 Gl wagon with tilt has about 1/4 in up/down play and about 1/2in play left/right. I may need to replace the steering rack too.

To test the timing belt job on my ea82 I went for a drive. Look what I found!!!! -
The longer bolt seems to hold for now:banana: Tomorow will be the real test.

You just flipped the car on its side to do the exhaust. seems much easier.Did you lay a mattress down or just say ************ it? or is the car a template? either way I want your exhaust
