  1. well my Dad also asked a Subaru tech the other day for me. you were right i just needed confermation
  2. it works!!! its a self aligning bearing and the new retaining clips im gad i waited for. thanks for the wee bit of help.
  3. a I may be young but this is my 4th clutch since highschool. but ive never done a new gen subaru or even pulled the tranny out most of the subarus i pulled the engine. .. i chose this beautifull weekend for its wonderfull weather but the PNW fights back and shows whos boss. :-\ its raining today hopfully it will let up a bit this afternoon. I have some of the most specacular cardboard also.. double layer i beleve. i now have all the parts and hopfully it will be back up tonight while working under lights.
  4. it just seems kindof strange, and no most bearings newones that i have looked at are all the same. they look off center
  5. after succesfuly installing the tranny after replacing the clutch last night i had this itch that i did something wrong so today i had my dad help me pull the tranny back out:mad: i was upset it was a pain in the rear getting it all back together. any way i found that the retaining clips for the release(throwout ) bearing were not were they should be and i should replace them. NOw im upset becuase the parts dept is usualy closed on sunday so i have to figure out a car to drive to work in the morning:-\ so thats worked out now i have a car, but now i hope i can get the proper clips from the dealer. i now will be installing the tranny at night after work possibly tomarow in the dark and hopfully the weather stays nice. My next issue is the throw out bearing alignment. please look at the picture and tell me what way this bearing should be installed, its brand new and looks just like the one that came off the car. notice the gap on the top and bottom of that plastic bushing that the bearing slides back and forth on. shoud that be on the top our bottom when i install the bearing. there has to be a reason for this..
  6. #1. turn the key and nothing happens lights radio work but the starter dosn't work.. has you continue to hold the key for a few seconds sometimes more the starter will kick on. and it will start just fine.
  7. thanks guys i'll take a look at it next time in with her.. but she hates to have me work on her car since it takes time away from hanging out:cool: funny i searched starter contacts and another post i made about a similar problem but on a differn't car.. that other car eded up needing a starter
  8. Alright I went to a friends house for the weekend and we deceded to drive her subaru and not mine its a 95 or 96 legacy L 2.2 automatic. Sometimes the car will start fine and sometimes it won't start at all. If you put the key in and turn it to start the car nothing will happen... if you continue to hold the key eventualy it will start, but there is this huge delay between turning the key and the car starting. any Ideas:-\
  9. So i figured i want to try and get my AC to work.. it didn't work when i bought the car. i push the ac button and nothing happens, the compressor dosn't engage no cliking sound, nothing. any ideas. I'll try searching in the mean time. could it be the compressor it self, or a relay?:-\
  10. ive had my 91 legacy wagon AWD at 28mpg a few times. 400miles or so is my record. but as soon as i hit a mountain pass or city driving it goes down real quick.. my worst on record is around 23mpg
  11. ^^^ no kidding i like my stock stereo so far.. just plug my Ipod into the aux imput and im good to go. the system for such an old car really dosn't suck... i did have a newer cd player and it really made the stock speakers shine. but back to the topic. when you installed the after market speakers did you notice that the factory spearkers have that crazy spacer deal to bring the speaker away from the door. I know my 91 has them and they are part of the original speaker.. without thoes i could totaly see the speakers not fitting well and or rattling.
  12. my legacy runs like crap on cheap regular.. i run 89 and it runs a lot better. it was pinging like crazy with 87.. 89 i don't have that problem.. hell it only costs a buck or so more to fill the tank.
  13. i feel my legacy is far better in the snow than my old 84 and 82 wagons. the only downsde is no low range gear. My legacy is an animal in the snow..
  14. so my search for some new summer wheels has finaly come to an end. the last junkyard i went to had a set of 4 turbo legacy wheels so i picked them up for 35 a piece then got a set of lightly used Hankook 195/65/15's from les schwab for 35 a piece, good deal i would say, the tires are decent.. i wasn't about to spend 50+ on tires right now. they have a sligtly taller sidewall than stock..but they fill out the fenders nicely.
  15. thanks for the ideas guys, i'll look into them when I get around to looking at her car again.
  16. the car worked fine when i drove it around the other day. i cleaned up the battery terminals, she hasn;t called yet about it. its strange because its so infrequent.
  17. So ive been helping my friend keep her 94 subaru legacy running. After a life of torture from an older cousin. First it was a blown out air strut so i replaced them all with springs and regular struts, then it was the alarm that went off and couldn't be stopped ( ended up pulling the alarm control unit and now its fine ) and finaly there is a small starting issue. This only happens in the summer time mostly and after driving around for quite some time. she would park the car and upon starting it again the car won't start, it won't crank over, nothing. Im stumped any pointers that could be giving. :-\
  18. Bosch Makes that kind of stuff for many many companies... but im also sort of suprised that a more reputable and less problematic company from Japan didn't make them:-\ shoot i run NGK plugs in my vw
  19. I think i paid $60 from Napa for a reman axle... so far it works:) Next time i hope to find a good used axle and order some book kits from the dealer.. if my drivers side boot goes bad i'll replace the boot. its tough to find boot kits... unless im looking in all the wrong places.
  20. my only problem with the 2.2 was little power with a heavy car. my dads 98 ouback with the 2.5 is a great car, nearly 200k miles on it and had the headgaskets chagned at 188k, the only real problem with it is massive piston slap that is making my dad nervous. he isn't as happy with this car due to these engine problems. I like it its a great engine when well taken care of. don't let the problems scar you away its not like it happens all the time.
