I got the transmission pulled apart for the reseal, it was pretty easy overall. Right after it came out of the car we noticed that the input shaft was kinda loose, so of course that's the first thing I checked after it was apart. Lo and Behold, one of the bearings was shot but not the front one, this one. Where would I find one? Is this a Dealer-only item? This whole reseal was prompted by the input shaft seal leaking terribly, and then I saw this. The seal is barely on the machined surface at all! If I push on the back of the shaft it looks like this. Then I looked at what pre-loaded that shaft in the case, and realized that it was this large piece in the back. And the other side of it had some wear, possibly causing a loss of shaft pre-load. There is a groove worn in this plate. The depth where the bearing rides is .023" thinner on one side than the other. Once again, where would one source this part? Dealer-only? So far I just know O'reilly's and Rockauto don't have these parts.

CV Axle Removal
soobenthusiast replied to soobenthusiast's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There's some good stuff there, one axle will be replaced while the transmission is out. I got the transmission out yesterday, and started cleaning it to today. It is getting a full re-seal, as well as looking to see if any new bearings are needed. I should probably know this, but is this for EA or EJ trannies? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=121963 -
This is probably really simple, but I haven't figured it out yet. I'm pulling the transmission for a reseal, and can't figure out how I'm supposed to remove the CV axles. Do I just pop them out of the transmission after I slide it back?

Welcome! We don't have any area meets that I know of, but I'm pretty sure one of the Legacy forums has OKC meets. -

Yep, after only 350 miles the impeller side had a 1/4 inch of play in every direction. The replacement was NOT a reman, but a new one. In other news, the car got some fresh new tires recently. -

The water pump I just replaced started leaking yesterday. I thought it was probably the base gasket or the o-ring; I checked it out today and it wasn't. It's hard to see in this pic, but the water seems to becoming out of the little weephole directly opposite the heater hose fitting. What would cause this? Can I just plug it? -

Hmm...that does look difficult. Ours didn't have that clip at all, just a slight press fit through the pedal. I'm not even sure how I'd put that back on with a clip anyway, it was challenging without. Thank you for the picture, that's just what I needed! -

Bump, I still haven't figured it out. I'm sure it's something simple, I just haven't found it yet. -
I saw a blue outback that looked lifted going south into Columbus, OH on I-71 last Sunday (July 24). It also had a tall CB antenna on the roof. Is it anyone on here?

I'm putting in a new clutch cable and can't quite figure out how to do it. What's the trick to getting the pin out of the clutch pedal? I can't see it, and can't feel anything, does it have a cotter pin or snap ring or something else? -

The Loyale is up and running again! I ended up having to take the drivers side timing belt tensioner off just to see what I was doing as I scraped the old gasket off! And of course the timing belt covers did NOT go back on. Yep, it was the test connectors. Thanks, but we sourced a stock radio at PAP. It also got two nicer front seats, and a new rear seatback, also courtesty of PAP. One of the next things is a front axle. What are the good non-oem axles? Several local parts stores have axles with a lifetime guarantee in the $50-70 range. -

The car now needs a water pump. Is there anything special that needs to be done to burp the system, or just leave the radiator cap off and warm it up? -

On the wheel offset: We have a tractor that we flipped the wheels like you did, and we were also told that the wheel bearings would wear faster. We've not had any bearing trouble yet, and it added quite a bit of stability. One thing nobody mentioned was that with the wheels sticking out that much, the steering wheel gets jerked harder if you hit a rock or something with one side and not the other. Remember that this was on a tractor, I'm not sure how much it applies to your sweet-looking wagon, but hopefully it helps. -
92 loyale wagon "BEST SHOCK AND STRUTS???"
soobenthusiast replied to 2.5LOYALE's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
We just put struts on my fathers 92 sedan, KYB's on the rear and Gabriels on the front. Would definitely recommend the KYB's. The Gabriel's are alright too, and cheap, but on the ones we got the diameter of the bottom (where it slides in the knuckle) was like .020' too much! Had to scrape all the paint off and still spread the collar some. If you haven't already, check RockAuto. I've been known to find even better prices by taking the part numbers from their catalog, and search using that. -

Hmm.....sounds like something to look for at PAP. I'm assuming that an Accord coilover kit would work as well, somthing like this. If anything the ride height in the back is okay right now, but the load capacity is not. the accord springs would probably be okay though, as I doubt the back would be any higher than the front is now. -

How would that affect the ride height and load capacity?
