Ok guys i got a 90 legacy FWD with 180K on it. Front trany seal started pouring fluid out. I dropped it out today and removed the torque converter looked at tranny and no seal in it.... It was still on ther end of the torque converter... So did the tranny build preasure and blow the seal out ?? or could it be the age? I couldnt tell if it was leaking around the seal or through it! Has anyone else had this problem befor? If i put another seal in it and flush tranny what do you think will happen?? any suggestions are welcome!

First check to see if all of your tires are the same and the tire preasure is the same. any size difference from front to rear can cause it to bind.... if thats not the problem then .. I would take it to a shop that can flush the transmission fluid..( not change it ) but flush it pushing about 16 to 20 quarts through it. That has worked for me a few times on different cars. If that doesnt work then you will probably have to change the solinoid in the rear housing of the tranny

Thanks Flash, I am hoping its that simple. Uot of all the cars i have had and sold this is the first time i have seen a front seal leak in the legacy. I had one once that would blow some fluid out the breather tube on top, So i changed the fluid and ran trans X through it and would keep adding tans X and finaly after a few weeks and some long dirves it quit. sold it later and the guy is still driving it 2 years later without a problem

Ok, 90 Legacy FWD Started pouring tans fluid out... What are the symptoms that would cause that? I know the valves can clog up and put preasure on the seal. It has 180,000k on it. I assume it could wear and start pouring? or crack from age? Has anyone else had this problem? I was thinking If its not worn or cracked i am going to replace it and flush it immediatly... Does this sound good?

Thank you very much Ken, It now has 32,556... Not bad for a 90 AWD. I have a girl from the church wanting to buy it. I want her to have it because she wont put that many miles on it. she only lives a mile from work and drives to church about 6 miles so maybee i can trade back for it in the future and it still be low milage.

I know have a 90 Legacy AWD sedan A/T with 32,500 on it.... It is sweet. I will have to repaint from the trim up because of paint fade and replace the upper portion of the back seat also but those are no problem Other than that a few details like a new trunk poper handle and fix inner door handle ( about 30 min work ) The good thing is i have been offerd 2500.00 for it already

Thats cool.... good luck on the RX and if i come across any XT's i will let you know -
Well it depends on how good of a Job he did on it. Find out where all the damage was, Ask if ther is any filler in it, make sure all the line Line up. Most builders will not ask edmonds price! I never have... I have gotten close to the price on an older car 90 - 94 But when i finished with the car it was better than most on the road of those years ( new tires, brakes, timming belts and seal, Antifreeze, oil change, tans fluid flush, axles and struts ) I sold a 98 the other day repaired in front only for 1,700 less than edmonds and it had no filler in it at all... I wouldnt give him book unless he has done all the things i have mentiond and you cant tell by looking that it has been hit, and has only been hit in front of the shock towers.... and I Still wouldnt give him book maybee 250 or more less than book, but it would have to be nice.... Are you neer Knoxville i might Know who the seller is? Pm me your # and i will call you and tell you more.

I agree with everyone in here! There have been alot of people that have gotten alot of miles on there 96 and 97 and havent had a problem. But they wouldnt make an upgraded headgasket at Subaru if there wasnt a problem with these year models. Hey out of all the ones i own i only had to do one set of head gaskets on my mothers 97GT and will be doing headgaskets next week on one i sold to a guy last year. I wasnt saying it was a head gasket but it cant be ruled out. It could be a bad spark plug wire or a crank or cam sensor going bad. I have replaced all three at one time or another to fix some cars that run bad. A few of my buddies have had to fix some heads do to running them to long with bad headgaskets or otherwise. These are just some of the things that i have run across... But i agree with getting someone else to do a compression test or buy the guage and do it yourself when changing the plugs and wires. Thats what i do on mine and my dads cars. I guess when you have 2 foresters, 3 GT's, and 2 outbacks, and 6 legacy's, and 4 SVX's, and an XT6, and 1 GL..... and sold 5 outbacks and 3 imprezas and 8 legacy's, 1 loyal, and 1 SVX, and parted out 12 others this year... well ive had my share of problems with these things......

hey a friend has an XT6 for sale in Decatur and works at Subaru of Guinett If you are interested i will get you his # -
25+ shipping... but i would want the #s still cause there are a cpl of different one i believe. I know cause i changed an engine once and just pluged it in and it wouldnt idle right . then realized it had different #s and only had three pins as apposed to four. the ones i have are off the cars and i have about 6 of them so it would help me get the right one.

No, they wear very well that way and will last you longer.... Alot of tires running with 35 PSI in the Mountain areas will wear on the outer edges. Especialy when driving harder than a person should be driving in the curves. Like i said i run 40 in front and 38 - 39 in rear because of the weight difference from fron to rear of the the vehical. And i Also run higher tread wear tires such as 580 tread wear, traction A temperature B.
