  1. No, it was a 2000 Powerstroke. Wife drives a '72 F100 with points, 1 vacuum hose and a carb...flawless!
  2. I had problems with a 'cam positioning sensor' on time. It left me, my wife and out 2 month old stranded at the top of a remote mountain pass, with no way out. That was my last doings with a computered rig...especially one I paid $37K for. It just not worth it to me. I have never had a carb fail me, to the point I cant get it home. I've beat this bush before, but thats my story. Plus, I dont mind 'pumping' the gas pedal once to start my car.
  3. I dont even think I would run a Weber. The Hitachi is a pretty fine carb. Low maintenance, durable, easy to rebuild. I have 253K on this one. Only issues I have ever had is icing, which was my fault. Easily corrected but should have a better system for it. Maybe something like a small planes de-icing setup, all manual. GD, I understand what you are saying. I just dont like wires and hoses and sensors. I dont have a sensor on my '86 and I am happy. Ok, I confess, I do have the anti-diesel hooked up, but thats the only wire....oops, and the choke. Dont give up on me yet. If you can devise a FI to operate with an external [2 hr add on], SIMPLE, wiring setup, I might go for it. I just tore all this '88 stuff apart, there sure is a lot of extra stuff on the engine. A lot more than I even expected.
  4. What makes him say it needs a new engine...is a good place to start. Rod coming through the side? Bearing?
  5. I know you find this hard to believe, but I really like my Hitachi. I read what is involved with the swap, doesn't perk me up one bit. You must really like wires, sensors and such. I'm just too old school. Wish there was a yard within 150 miles. :/
  6. The engine is going into a carb vehicle. Nothing wrong with it. I am trying to trade it off for a carb and manifold.
  7. Great, I'll swap you your carb'd one and you can have this, if you like it so much.
  8. No, its fine, nothing wrong. He saw the seepage and is now concerned.
  9. Its not mine but they just did the valve cover gaskets and mechanic found coolant to air, underneath. I believe that is all that has been done with it. Owner crawled under and verified the leak, seepage only, right above the oil cooler.
  10. Head gasket is leaking, 169K, Should he have it fixed it or sell it? I hear its a pricey endeavor.
  11. I have 9004's. The housings are lousy so it doesnt matter what you have in there. I am looking for a light bar to mount some Cibie's on.
  12. Whats involved in replacing rear quarters? I have a good body I am cutting up and would like to take one and swap it to another rig.
  13. Yeah, I looked it over, think I will pass on it. Oh well, good thought anyways. :/
  14. Got pics of that? I would rather that as I have an aversion to putting $300 worth of lights within deer/elk/moose/bear's reach.
  15. Can I put the 4 lights into the 2 light GL? Easy swap??
  16. Lets see....do I give it to you or put it on my wifes car? Sorry. :-\
  17. Going to part it out and crush it. Too much work involved to fix it up.
  18. .....you are driving the wrong rig if you are concerned about power.
  19. Ok, thought it would be simple. This thing has been sitting for 7 years. Wasnt too sure I wanted to fuss around trying to get that running. I am not interested in all the codes that are going to pop up and all that goodness that goes with it. I do believe it has a bad fuel pump, but who knows beyond that. Not wanting to put money into another valueless rig....ya know?
  20. Would putting the carb setup on the '88 be easy enough? I would rather have carb'd than FI. I cant see how anything with that should be difficult. My 86 has only a couple wires and about 2 or 3 vacuum hoses on it.
  21. Grey 88 DL- pros--given to me, rust free body, non electric cockpit cons-- hasnt run in 7 yrs, parts missing, FI White 86 GL- pros-- runs like a monster, carb'd. cons-- body starting to show its age. So, what do I do? I really need the D/R. Do I gut the 86 and swap it all to the 88? Are the compatible, GL/DL??
