Awww man, thanks but a couple hours late. I ended up getting her something basic, which is all she really needs. Thanks for the offer, appreciated. Whoever put this one in cut the oem end off, so I have some fiddling to do. -

Sorry, I forgot to mention; I've been a Soob guy working on them for 20 yrs here. Just thought I'd throw this out there for input. I'm quite familiar with the head gasket issue, belts and wheel bearings. -
A highway runner

All season tires are a must here. Its just hypothetical pretty much. I was thinking cooling would be the biggest to pay attention to. Mainly thinking mechanical-wise. Not sure where that would put the engine, rpm wise but I assume it shouldnt be an issue. Reason being; took a trip this weekend, 2 vehicles, driving in the above stated conditions. He was driving an OB, 5 spd, loaded with 4 people and a lot of gear. I was in a Sequoia. He kept up very well, all but the long grades he faded some....of course, but not bad. I got 16 mpg, he got mid -20's. He did quite well which made me wonder how long the OB could do this sort of thing. -
Long drive, lots of thinking led me to this: What would it take to make a late model Legacy/Outback with a 2.2 or even something newer with a 2.5 a good, efficient, not abused, highway runner? By that I mean something capable of handling 600 miles at 75-80, 10 miles of 7% grades now and again, big, open road.

Thats what I figured. Not worth doing on this rig, I'll improvise. Thanks for the input!

Ok, no easy fix I assume? Just tape it off for the winter?

Why is there constant cold air [ambient temp] blowing in my dash vents [above radio]? Even when the heat/def is pushed to off. If I have the heat on but no blower, it still has cold air entering the car.

Meh, I'd just give it a go. Lay it on a flat surface and see if its warped if you want. -

I'd bring another GL. -
Might as well revive it again:

And you are 100% sure its not the driveshaft u joint?
-
No, long gone.
-
Agreed. I should try and find a wideband 02 sensor. Would be handy to have.
-
It runs fantastic. Matter of fact I chose to sell my turbo and keep this one, I like it so much. I'll take your suggestions under advisement.

EGR is gone. All I have in the exhaust path is one converter which for all intents is the muffler. Coil is stock. Spark plugs are nice and tan.

'86 GL Anyone running a Weber have a clean tailpipe? Mines always sooty. Everything is tuned correctly and jets are what they are supposed to be. Thought I would inquire.....
-
Bingo! It was a donor car I knew nothing about. Just scabbing engine parts.
-
Yeah, I wont try it. Doesnt sound like good odds. Thanks for the input.

I'll give you my wifes phone number. You can prime her with an explanation as to why there is a head in her oven. Meh, I just wanted to keep it as a spare head. Wonder why it fell out...
