  1. Is their any possibility that the fuel pressure and return lines got swapped by accident during the surgery?
  2. It sounds like I am being way too fussy. It looks like the general consensus is to just run them unless they have been creamed by a piston or show obvious signs of being burnt. That's exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you for all of your opinions As far as the customers cars I work on the machine shop makes the call, so this info is just for my own projects.
  3. I was wondering what others do to bench test valves for leakage when checking used heads or when they are off for gasket replacement etc? I know that you can spray brake cleaner down the intake and exhaust valve ports and look at the faces for leaks. Some folks pour water in the combustion chambers and use a blow gun to push air in to the ports against the back side of the valves and look for bubbles, is this a better way? It seems like almost every valve I check with brake cleaner seeps a little bit, yet they were running fine? Is lapping in this situation recommended or will that just accelerate wear and make it worse?

  5. It looks like it might just be a pulse damper. If so, EA82 SPFI cars are loaded with those things. I would try using an EA82 one and see what happens.
  6. The vacuum lines can be plugged. I'll have to look up what I did to make all the lights, NSS, etc working.
  7. You should be good to go. The ratios should both be 3.9. I have done several D/R swaps recently and they fit/work great. Some details need to be sorted out with the trans wiring harnesses but they're minor.
  8. In my opinion this would not benefit the EA series engines. There are plenty of things you can do that don't cost much extra. If you have extra time on your hands you can take detailed measurements of everything that you re-assemble, bearing clearances, piston to cylinder wall clearance, piston ring end gaps, connecting rod weight for balance, etc. Being as anal as humanly possible try to get everything as close to the "tight end" of the factory specifications as you are able. The engine will make more power, run quieter and be more efficient. You will be more proud of it too
  9. One option is to read through the steps in a repair manual and see if you are up to it. The factory service manual is available from a number of sources.
  10. Try leaving the smooth idler off until the belt is installed and lined up, then put the smooth idler on last.
  11. The EJ22T PCM should be controlling the fuel pump, is there a reason that it is wired through a switch? This raises other questions about the wiring done during the installation.

  13. The supercharger on the Mad Max car was for looks only. It didn't actually work.

  16. You will need the engine crossmember from the EA82T car too. The exhaust up-pipe to the turbo won't fit without it.
  17. I removed the stock lower radiator outlet and replaced it with a 90 degree one pointing down when I did my last EA81-EJ22 swap. Not sure if that helps or not.

  19. Here is my '92 Loyale with the EJ22 and EJ 5MT conversion done. It also has the 5 lug swap done with 16's in this picture.
  20. I have an EJ swapped '92 Loyale. I have done the EA - EJ conversion several times now. There are many positive reasons to do this swap. There are also some things to take into consideration. The conversion will most likely take longer and cost more that you expect. There are always delays and extra costs no matter how well you try to plan ahead. Next, the old EA82 Loyale that you have gotten used to will be gone. Your car will have a totally different feel to it, like a different 'personality' almost. The power to weight ratio will be awesome compared to ridiculous! I have an 88 DL with an EA82 in it too. The difference between the two cars is night and day.
