  1. http://www.wescopbe.com/stores.htm Wesco had no trouble with 685 for me a couple years ago. They also made Subaru "Lightning Silver" in rattle cans for me and it was a good match. These guys seem to know there stuff.
  2. It would be lots easier and cheaper to just buy the entire outback and run it. You have some serious reading to do. All of information is here on this site if you search for it.
  3. I have seen some head gasket installations that REQUIRE you to loosen ALL of the head the bolts a full 180 degrees and repeat the torquing procedure, for what thats worth. A single head gasket might not be that much for piece of mind either. Is this your car or a customers?
  4. I like the paint job on the engine! Cool idea
  5. I like it! It looks like it's pretty much water tight. This could be really nice if you take your time planning it.
  6. Welcome to the USMB! You won't find a better resource for older Subaru information than right here in my opinion. I think that the EA82 is a good engine. They will easily run for 200k or more if the maintenance is kept up. I am currently restoring an '88 DL and it's one of my favorite cars. Sooo, do we get to see pictures of your '85?
  7. They (XT6) are the same as the EA82 Turbo or 25 splines. I have swapped in standard EA82 23 spline stubs from a dead "push-button" 5 speed donor. It has worked well for 7 years so far in my EJ swapped '83 GL.Wagon.

  9. Kalispell, MT is a really pretty place! Heck of a deal on the EJ too.
  10. First, try replacing the failed radiator with a new unit. Now if that isn't sufficient you can add as many school bus heater cores as needed to increase cooling system capacity and interior heat at the same time
  11. The only quick fix additive that has ever worked for me on a sticky HLA (besides fixing it properly) is Marvel Mystery Oil. That stuff is amazing. http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/
  12. I would check for fault codes and make sure to fix any first. The coolant temp sensor and connector are known problems on these engines too, so get a look at those. Next I would check for a bad spot in the throttle position sensor just off idle. This won't usually set a code but it can cause a bad stumble.
  13. That seems like a pretty good price. Shipping might be a killer though. I know what you mean about 13's, I have converted most of my older Subies to larger tires and wheels for that very reason. Good Luck!
  14. The XT4 with the ECU in the trunk is one of the easiest self contained EA82 harnesses you will ever find. It takes about 20 minutes to strip the harness out of the donor, no need to pull the fender or dash, and no need to strip it all down. It runs from the front under the carpet and in to the trunk in one neat self-contained harness, and it's long enough to locate your new ECU wherever you like. It's a good time for a MPFI upgrade You can see the ecu and harness as it came out of the donor car in right side of this picture. The large round rubber grommet (visible on the main loom in the right side of the photo) is where it goes through the firewall, right above the passengers feet. This picture does not show the ECU and Fuel pump relays. It should 'tie-in' to the new vehicle with about 10 wires total.
  15. Please post some pictures if you end up getting it. You picked the right forum too. IMO this is one of the best EA resources anywhere
  16. Please remember to check safety items like the steering before you drive it, I bought a Subaru Wagon that was lifted by someone else (the first time). It wandered a bit on the freeway while I was driving it home. I checked it later and found out that they never put the pinch bolt back in to the steering shaft u-joints
  17. I would get the wiring harness from the donor car that the dash comes from. That should make it a lot easier. It isn't that hard, just take your time.
