  1. What's to think? Grab it and flip it if nothing else That's a good paycheck for a day or two's worth of work! Congrats!
  2. I'm sure that you will get many ideas for this. How about simply removing the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box and connecting a hidden switch (with the fuse also). I doubt a typical thief would be smart enough or quick enough to figure that out. All you really need to do is discourage them and they will usually move on. What ever you do I suggest keeping it simple and removeable. In my opinion anyone that really wants your car will just take it with a tow truck in about 30 seconds
  3. I am pretty sure that KingBobDole on here and the XT forum has an XT (aka the "Cheese Wedge") with an EZ30 and a FWD trans.
  4. The instructor is half right. Please, if you ask someone for help then perhaps you should actually LISTEN. There is ANOTHER fuel filter that gets MISSED. It is back underneath the car and no one ever changes it.
  5. Have you tried changing the fuel filter by the tank underneath? Often times it gets overlooked until it's nearly plugged up solid. It might be all covered up with years of mud and be hard to find. Good Luck
  6. Even the dogs are smiling Nice Ride!
  7. The main bearings, rod bearings, and pistons/rings are interchangable between the EA81 and EA82 if that helps any.
  8. Clear ones http://www.amazon.com/72-82273-Clear-Light-Guard-Headlight/dp/B00332GP7Y/ref=au_as_r?ie=UTF8&Make=Subaru|13&Model=GL|59&Year=1988|1988&n=15684181&s=automotive&vehicleId=3&vehicleType=automotive Smoked ones http://www.amazon.com/72-82274-Smoke-Light-Guard-Headlight/dp/B00332GP88/ref=sr_1_3?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1425012375&vehicle=1992-13-65-20---8--3199-122-1----4-0&sr=1-3&ymm=1992%3Asubaru%3Aloyale I ordered one of each and they fit perfectly
  9. I think that 3.5k to 4.0k rpm's is just about right as a shift point for an EA engine. Too much lower than 4k and you won't get enough power out of it. Too much higher than about 5.0k rpm's and cylinder head limitations (breathing restrictions) start to make the power and torque drop off. In my humble opinion there isn't really a point in pushing a 200k mile engine much higher unless you are looking for a rebuild project
  10. Hi Jeremy, Is this the Green EA81T Brat with swapped 4 speed manual D/R trans, a rear disc brake conversion, and rust in the dash?
  11. This is the way I understand it. Equal length exhaust tubes before the merge collector make a standard 4 cylinder exhaust note (no Subaru 'burble'). Unequal length tubes before the merge collector give you the Subaru 'burble' noise. I have each style here in my driveway and the difference is like night and day.
  12. To be fair this trick doesn't work on a lot of cars
  13. I am really impressed with the decals that I have ordered. They look as good or perhaps even better than the originals! The Desert Fox kit belongs on my lifted 83 GL Wagon
  14. I would just pull off the flywheel and tap it out from the back side I have a pilot bearing puller with both small and large jaws but I have never had to use it on an EA81 or EA82. Good Luck! Jeff
  15. @DaveT I like the 'sandwich' idea. You were able to use easily available household supplies and it sounds like it will probably work. @Frep420 I like your copper gasket work! If you can get them to seal initially, then they will probably last for years. Way to go What are you using for copper sheet? You must have a bit of it available already as it ain't cheap.
  16. I would use the old long nut with the new long nut that came with the cable, if you have two of them. That should work better than what was on there. Good Luck!
  17. I'm sorry to hear that you are stuck in the middle of this mess, especially far away from home I hope it gets resolved soon.
  18. It could still be a fairly simple repair in the hands of someone that KNOWS what they are doing. The problem is most of 'those' people are being sent home and replaced by younger cheaper help. It really sounds to me like the trans is still in 'limp - default' mode. Have you had a scan tool hooked up to it? Can you get any data from the trans controller?
  19. As always there are two sides to everything. There are many details that don't belong in a public forum. It was NOT my business, and a small family owned one at that. The last few years have been pretty scary I'm glad it's over... I think that we all tried as hard as we could for as LONG as we could.
  20. Thank you, something will work out I'm sure Ahhh, well I wouldn't exactly put it that way.... I reported to work at 5 minutes to 8:00 am as usual on Wednesday morning ready to start my day. There was a note waiting for me, followed up by a phone call, and I was packing my stuff by 8:05. No notice, no benefits, no retirement, no severence, and no 401k (promised 23 years ago - another story) Anyway it does sort of suck (or was it a blessing in disguise?) I might need a week or so to get my stuff together. I guess it's not all that bad having a minute to gather ones 'thoughts' and polish your 'Chrome' every 30 years or so I plan to continue to try and stay healthy and concentrate on spending more time with my wife (whom has been VERY supportive), my family, and friends - including YOU GUYS! The rest will either work out or it won't, time will tell
  21. Me wonders why the TCU firmware was EVEN TOUCHED without the owners permission I would not be amused at all. Keep us posted and good luck!
  22. Wow from 2006! I hope they have it sorted out by now
  23. Maybe the gas has started to turn bad. Have you tried pumping a small amount of gas in to a glass bottle to look at it? There could also be moisture or corrosion in the distributor cap.
