  1. You can use the SPFI EA82 pistons in either an EA81 or EA82 as long as you choose the correct set (standard or oversize)
  2. I'm not really sure that I can offer much other than perhaps schematics, but good luck with this swap. I keep watching for updates!
  3. I have a factory center lamp setup including the relay and switch - not sure of the year or system style. I can't figure out how to wire it up, I'll admit it's been low priority. I'll box up the relay and switch and send them to you for loan if that will help out. I just ask for it back someday with what you have figured out. You can take it apart and see how it's wired up. I started this and then life got in the way for years I think I have a copy of the indyworld diagrams too if that will help.
  4. I had to cut the boot retainer off of the linkage rod otherwise it would not clear the driveline. Then I had to cut back the rubber bellows section so it didn't rub on the driveline. That's why I added some additional layers of plastic and insulation to help keep noise and moisture out of the inside. The rest is just stock bits and pieces that I have saved over the years. I'm not sure what model that shifter trim came from. I guess I lucked out finding a combination that fits and looks good. I tried to give enough pictures, but I will add some more soon. Thank you for looking
  5. I used the stock EA82 driveline. I did have to shorten it, 55mm sounds correct but I can double check. How do I replace the staked in u-joints on this driveline now? Is it even possible?
  6. Please do, and share some photos of it! What type of Wagon do you have?
  7. Good Luck! Feel better first too, for sure. Like I said if I was a little closer I would come and fix it. Keep us posted...
  8. Humor me for a second, I know I am a bit stuborn, but I have fixed THOUSANDS of cars over the years. Have you done an actual compression or leakdown test to make sure there isn't some internal mechanical problem? Before you proceed with your diagnosis? I would gladly come over and help you solve this. I am just too far away Maybe it burned an exhaust valve or something. Just trying to help.
  9. +1 About not needing a factory o-ring if the tube is good. I have never ordered one. I have used the factory metal gaskets though, if this is the right EA for those.
  10. After all these years it is still pretty relavant too. I am still working on these things at times, and they still run great!
  11. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/145759-royal-loyale/ There are some answers in this thread.
  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Impreza_%28second_generation%29 The Saab version of the Impreza is covered near the bottom of the Wiki page linked to above. This should give you a place to start. There is always Google too! -Jeff
  13. I like this car! I have an EA81T engine also, actually two. I am interested in any information that you can provide about using Mega Squirt with this exact setup. I am just finishing a complete rebuild on both of them this spring. This will make me G-O-M-A and finish even sooner. Thank you in advance -Jeff
  14. I'll be interested to see if stays quiet, I hope so. I certainly can relate to the TOD. Did you do the re-inforced case o-rings on the cam towers yet? I have had pretty good luck with Marvel Mystery Oil for noisy lifters too.
  15. I'm thinking maybe that's where I picked up the tach signal but I can't remember for sure.
  16. That looks right, that connector probably got chopped at a later point I would think. I pretty sure I was using a heated oxygen sensor. There is probably an extra pair of wires in those photos for that too. There is an oxygen sensor ground wire too as I recall connected in the spare tire area.
  17. Hmmm that was about five years ago, foggy. Let me shake my brain a little more...
  18. It's a small metal line that I used for a fuel return. It was unused on my car. It runs to the back with the rest of the lines in that area. I used a brass adapter to make it work. I also replaced every fuel hose on the car front to back, especially the old nasty ones under the back with high pressure fuel injection grade hose.
  19. Here are the only shots of my old setup that I can find so far. It's kind of a mess here, but it was running at this point. I hope it helps a little. Good Luck!
  20. Good catch! I am building 2 of these engines (EA81T) right now and at least 1 will use the stock harness and ECU. I didn't even know this critical detail. Thank you.
  21. These engines aren't that hard to work on. I would pull the timing cover and inspect, replace, or re-seal the engine oil pump. The screws on the back tend to loosen up anyway as I recall. I would think that the lifters should be silent by now if they are the hydraulic style. All of mine have been silent within 15 minutes of first start. Good Luck
  22. I am thinking of just keeping it stock. I had a chance to get out and drive it some today. The combination of the 4eat automatic and the turbo make this a fun little car.
  23. I sold my '83 Wagon and was lucky enough to end up buying it back. I'll never do that again. I know exactly how you feel
