  1. I have always liked Wagons. I picked up this 1992 Loyale in June of 2013. A 5 lug swap was planned as well as rear disc brake conversion. I also looked into adding a rear sway bar from an XT coupe. Anyway, I know everyone likes to look at pictures and I have a small head-start already. Once the suspension, brakes, and tires are taken care of, I'll most likely finish up with an EJ swap. I have some pieces gathered already. This is a spare time project with a limited budget so this thread might not get regular updates. It is a nice daily driver at the moment though, with working A/C Many of you have inspired this build. Nico, Rick (The General Himself), Gloyale, Bratsrus1(Jerry), Tex, Turbone, TheLoyale, JesZek, Monstaru, Bratman18 and EVERY other one of you!!! Thanks... Hope you enjoy!
  2. I started as a cashier at a service station in 1983. Now I am an ASE Master L1 Tech with over 30 years of experience . Keep at it, it can be a rewarding career at times. Mostly for me, the gift of knowledge that allows me to custom build my own cars to my specs... Keep your health in check while you go.
  3. What he said... ^^^^ If you are going to modify the carefully designed and balanced factory braking system then you need to know exactly what you are doing and why. Otherwise, you run the risk of spinning out of control during a rainy night panic stop on the freeway and possibly hurting someone!!!
  4. This can be done this several ways. I would PASS on the aftermarket stuff personally. If the car was available with power windows then they CAN be retrofitted to your car with a few trips to the local P-N-P. I have actually done this on MANY different types of cars including older Subaru's. I might be able to help with specifics like "where is the power window controller on an EA81 or EA82?" "Can I also include the power door locks at the same time?" Here are some ideas... 1) Pull all the parts including wiring, window regulators, ect from a donor, and spend LOTS of time doing the conversion and getting all of the adjustments perfect. 2) Buy donor car and strip it so you don't have to spend so much time at P-N-P You might encounter resistance from neighbors and family members with this option, but you could actually make money on the deal if you do it right 3) Pull ALL the doors intact with the goods from the donor vehicle and install them on your car. Easiest by far, especially if the doors are the correct color. 4) You have probably noticed that I didn't include the option of selling the vehicle and buying one with Power Windows and every other option that you want. This is the LEAST fun of all of the above choices IMO. 5) I have repaired aftermarket window installations many times. They are ALWAYS harder to get parts for than factory systems and with the exception of very high end systems they never work properly or last very long. Good Luck, post lots of pictures and have fun!!!
  5. Thanks! I'll probably never actually get around to this, but it sounds great!
  6. How about a 3AT from an EA82 wagon? I would think it could be made to work. The 5 speed D/R or even S/R is well worth it too. There are issues specific to the auto ---> manual swap though, so do your research.
  7. You might also look at your driving habits (THIS IS NOT a SLAM against you or anyone!). These little engines make HP and Torque at slightly higher RPM's than some people might be used to. I have several EA cars. Try a test drive around town (35mph and under and leave it in second gear (if 5 spd). Try shifting at 3500-4000 rpm's or even slightly higher. These little engines make pretty good power for what they are if they are tuned and fueled correctly. Twist it up and have some fun! Good Luck,,,
  8. Great Work! Thanks for the updated pics.
  9. I have OEM Paper manuals for most of this older stuff. I don't have the time to scan it all in though. If you are looking for a specific page or procedure, I will see if I can help. Ebay can also be a good place to look for older factory service manuals.
  10. One way would be to find a complete EA82 at the wrecking yard and strip down the block for the pistons. Some of us also have an extra set or two kicking around. Someone will sell a set sooner or later... Perhaps a note in the "Wanted or Parts" section? Sounds like fun, Good Luck!
  11. I have a good used pair if you get stuck. Shipping would be from 98036, WA.
  12. I have the exact same results with the Duplicolor Vinyl on my front panels too. I'll share if I find better solution. This "Safariwagon" build helped inspire two cars that I am working on right now, Thank you for starting this thread and taking the time to include photos and keep it updated.
  13. I don't know what year your GL is but my front struts have a height adjustment. Maybe you can just crank them up a little.
  14. What part number do you need? I have still have hard copies of most of the old gen 2 parts manuals.
  15. Not even remotely close. The EA82 oil pump is timing belt driven.
  16. Intake gasket leak? Is the compression good in #2 and #4? It could be a head gasket also.
  17. Looks Great! Nice job. [EDIT] I am glad to see that I had already noticed this one! I am re-reading this thread again now as my 'neck bolts' are a little tighter this year
  18. I had to upgrade the rubber sections of fuel line to F/I grade too.
  19. Nice Wagon! Care to start a member thread with some more pics?
