  1. In my experience most of the aftermarket kits are not molded properly, if at all. For an older car say a Gen 2, perhaps find a nice factory Legacy, Honda, or ? carpet at the local wrecking yard and trim it to fit. You will probably want to take a few measurements before selecting and pulling it out. This is also a good time to clean and or dye it if needed.
  2. Especially true on older stock. Some of these parts have been bouncing around in different warehouses for 20+ years now.
  3. I have the KYB GR-2's on one of my wagons. It's a nice firm stock ride.
  4. One other thing to check, make sure the impeller is still on the inside of the water pump and the pump is moving water properly.
  5. Great Find! It looks like a touring wagon too! You might like the EJ series engine better, but the old EA82 is a good engine as well. You can't go wrong either way IMO. Could you post some more pictures of it?
  6. I have used these over lots of times and never had a leak or any problems. I would get another one if it's damaged though.
  7. I have been running an EJ22 on an EA81 radiator for quite a while now without any trouble. I would think you'll be fine with the either of the EA82 radiator styles as long as they flow well.
  8. If you pull the spark plugs out when you are doing the initial cranking it will spin the engine much faster. Also, it will put less load on the starter motor so you can crank a little longer. This should start the prime pretty quickly.
  9. I'll see if I have the relevant manual pages for scanning. Meanwhile, this write up is hard to beat for taking a D/R apart. It was my bible the first time I went into one. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/102493-rx-tranny-teardown-and-rebuild-with-pics/
  10. That sounds like the cold start enrichment circuit. As I recall from the harnesses I have done it should be connected to + power during cranking only.
  11. You need Jerry's kit! I think you can search on here for "Bratsrus1" or something like that. His kit's are great bolt in solution. Otherwise cut and weld as needed.
  12. I have seen that before. A used pump from with new seals will usually work in a pinch too.
  13. If you have a bad head or gasket, just fix it. In my opinion NEVER use Blue Devil or or other chemical head gasket sealants.
  14. Knock out the pin and pull that lever in the pic. The case won't split otherwise.
  15. Rust, Rust, and more Rust. Other than that it can probably be fixed Do you have any pictures?
  16. I tried too when I did my swap. I used brass fittings and copper tubing to adapt out to the stock EA81 oil sending unit. SO simple and yet I couldn't get it to seal properly. I finally gave up on the stock gauge. I'm sure it can work somehow, unless the EJ22 oil pressure is killing my EA sending units. It seems like it lasted for about a day or two before something started pouring oil, either the sender, or a coupling.
  17. How much oil did it consume before the HG repair? I would double check the PCV system and make sure it is working properly.
  18. All I see from your pic is the factory cross hatch marks on the cylinder wall. This is a good thing. Clean them up as suggested and go from there.
  19. These systems usually can be removed and the wiring restored to factory without too much trouble. It can usually be done without a diagram if you pay attention to the factory color codes. 1 or 2 wires for the starter interupt will be cut and run through the system, these will need to be repaired. The rest of the security system wires can usually just be clipped and taped up. Don't try this with a factory system though. Good Luck!
  20. I Like it! Is it a D/R trans with an adapter or ?
  21. I am having the same issues on a swap I am currently working on. Have you resolved it yet? I have learned that Subaru OEM axles with the smaller inboard D/O joint are better to work with than some of the aftermarket ones. If you take the inner joint apart and flip the D/O bearing on the in-board side of the axle shaft (requires removing the snap-ring) this will gain you enough length that it will work. There has to be a better solution though? I have tried all of the early EJ knuckles and there is no difference in axle spacing on an EA82 body. Impreza, Leg, ABS or Non, all the same. Please reply with any updates if you find out any new info.
