  1. let me clarify. there's no pipe on the south end of the third cat, it broke off right at the weld, but there's about 7" of pipe after the cat before the connection, so i can cut off the cat and still have about 7" to play with. i'm going to try to temporarily fix it today with a piece of flex pipe until i can take it back to my old garage in pittsburgh and have it replaced properly. i'm just going to get a straight pipe for the permanent fix.
  2. hell no, i'm all about losing the cat. straight pipe'll do it. NOW, my last concern is how badly the flange between the tail pipe and midpipe are rusted together :-\
  3. that would work great, but the pipe actually broke inside the extra cat, so there's not really any place to weld to on the engine side. on the other hand, there's pleanty of space on the tail end.
  4. Thanks for the quick reply. What did you mean by "exhaust stuff is mandatorily covered longer than you'd think" (btw, embarrassing that I apparently made a permanent typo in my diagram)
  5. 99 LGT Limited - 50k Miles - Sedan - Auto So, my exhaust broke. What do i mean by 'broke'? well, the middle of the mid-pipe (specifically the resonator) complete broke off. My problem is that I don't know what I need to replace. I could definitely use some assistance. Please check out the exhaust diagram (i made) below. Figure A: What my car originally had Figure B: The greyed out dashed line is what broke off Figure C: The FSM diagram Notice Figure A has 3 cats, and Figure C has 2 cats. Can someone shed some light on this? (yes i'm sure mine has 3 cats, yes i'm sure i'm looking at the correct manual)
  6. OK, i know i haven't been on the board in a while...sorry, it's been a crazy year... Was there any chatter while I was gone about the 3.6l going into the 2010 legacy, let alone a CVT???? If this is than just tell me to get with it.. http://www.subaru.com/vehicles/legacy2010.html
  7. yeah. i may try that. i'm not huge into spending my rebate check on an exhaust. i'll have to cut off that heat shield to get my sausage fingers up there though.
  8. 2 problems with JB and this application are that the pipes are rusted and the hole is on the top of the pipe, so grinding it clean would be super difficult. but yeah, i had thought about that.
  9. Ok peoples... 99 LGT I've got an exhaust leak on the weld on the engine side of the last cat before the muffler, and I think I hear another one popping through near the headers. I've confirmed the one near the exhaust, but not the new one. So, my question to you is, where can i get a new (possibly header-back, possibly cat-back) exhaust? I'd be interested in "performance" if the price is right, but my main concern is being able to keep the stock muffler because I love the tip.
  10. i had what sounds like almost exactly the same thing happen to my 96 2.2 leg. it ended up being the MAF. It was getting water on it some how causing it to make the car stutter.
  11. thanks! No its an auto. I would have prefered a manual but I couldn't pass up the car for the price ($9700)
  12. Ok, so i got this car in October 07 with 36k miles on it. It has about 42k now, but i FINALLY got the chance to take some picture of it. And since a few people were asking a long time to see it, I went ahead and posted a few more than usual. Oh, and the mud is from a job site, I'm trying to keep this car out of the Off Road threads
  13. correct, and in that case, he was doing pretty good at his job because i'm pretty sure that's what the slogan was at the time.
  14. i see, very good. and sorry, had to do it once. it's too weird calling you joe; it won't happen again. I actually got into an e-argument with Jim a couple years ago (yes, same guy, same name) about how the AWD system worked on my 96 Legacy LS 4eat. He wouldn't give me a straight answer. basically my question was if the AWD transferred power only front to rear or if it transferred side to side as well. he basically just kept saying, "wheels that slip to wheels that grip".
  15. that's a brilliant article. they really have captured "our" mentality to our cars. sure, that forester looks like it had a lot of life left in it (being that it was driven for 3 days to get there) but they still get the point across. most subaru owners aren't just owners, but enthusiasts. A cold air intake and a park bench on your trunk isn't the only thing that makes you an "enthusiast". Subaru and their new ad agency finally got our message that when you own one of these cars they become a part of your life and actually can change your views on your daily routine, such as actually enjoying and looking forward to the daily commute to and from work. that part in the article "..parked for the last time" hits home with a lot of us "enthusiasts" because we've done it. we've had to take "the walk" away from a car that's been a part of our lives for so long. But, we also know that "the long walk away" from your car after you've parked it for the last time mean that there's a new car in our future, and a new opportunity to start over and do it all again. now...enough mushyness over a car commercial...time for dancing bananas.:banana:
  16. Folks, Head Unit: AM/FM/WB 1 Disc CD changer, STOCK 2 things: 1. my 4,5,6 buttons light's out. Any way to get in there and replace the bulb like with the climate control light issue? 2. My stereo no longer displays the time....any thoughts?
  17. i tell ya, i've had GoodYear Triple Treads since October and i haven't been happier with a tire. they're a little noisy and slightly rough because of how hard the sidewall is, but i'm fine with it. i like the extra road feel. they handle well on dry, cut through water and slush like no other tire i've seen, and in the snow conditions we had in columbus this winter (record setting single snowfall in 1 day of about 24 inches) i never felt like i was losing traction or control. there were a couple of time where i actually tried to have a little fun in a snowy parkinglot and the tires would lose traction and then catch right back up (which made was less fun, but made me feel more secure on the road).
