  1. Ok, haven't been able to check in often due to a fried hard drive:banghead:. But I figured out the problem. I messed with the distributor. Turns out I had done the ignition timing very wrong. I'm an idiot, and also 2 of the connections int the wires were receded into the boots. But now the ignition is all set to stats, and the RX is running very pretty. It still has a very slight jerking, but not very noticeable. I rechecked the codes, and got abnormal o2 sensor, and something about the wastegate I think, 32 and 44. anyways, thanks guys
  2. There was an RX running pace car or 00 at the last Wild West rally I went to. Who was that?
  3. The thing is I don't remember the car doing this before I changed the engine. Its a pretty voilent jerking motion, that I don't want to just "live with." Its got a jdm engine now, and I've put about 70 miles on it, new seals, hoses, gaskets. I replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, disributor cap and rotor, water pump, oil pump, air filter. I put in an optima red top battery, switched the idle air control valve and gasket, cleaned the coolant temp sensor, and a bunch of other crap I'm forgetting I have not however done anything with the fuel pump. I can't think right now about what TPS is. --Todd
  4. It's nocticeable in 1st through 3rd, when going a constant speed. Its sort of a jerking, surging motion. Any ideas to what this could be? A friend said there should be a valve stem to release air from the fuel lines, that might fix the problem, but I don't seem to have one of these. The car also likes to idle low and die if I don't keep on the gas a little. I thought about adjusting the idle speed, but you are supposed to disconnect the purge line, and I'm not sure which one that is. Also I adjusted my ignition timing, and I got it lined up right on the dot, but the distributor is clocked all the way to one direction, so any further adjustments are impossible. What's the deal with this? Thanks for any ideas, --Todd
  5. Kevin, I can take a look at my car tommorrow, to help you out with those hoses, but I can't really think where they go off the top of my head
  6. slippery when wet. I wonder if Co2 or nitrous would be allowed, or would that make a mess too
  7. Ya, I had a mystery leak in that area, turns out the intake manifold bolts were not all the way torqued down. Then I still had a leak, and replace a turbo cooling hose. Good luck.
  8. OH that Hosuke guy is my new hero. Those are nice!!!!
  9. You know, an intercooler sprayer would be a worthwhile cheap mod, Will, that way you wouldn't have to put ice on your intercooler
  10. hmmm, I might have to do this. I have an extra turbo sitting around from my engine swap. And when I put my TWE parts on, that would be a good time to change the turbo. Who do I know that has a dremel?....
  11. Danggit Skip, thanks. I know I messed with that yesterday. but problem solved today. Today's new problem: battery
  12. my favorite OT joke People are modifying their wrx injectors to 740CC http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=478921&highlight=upgrade+injectors
  13. 107,000 miles. Never noticed any slipping before. Going to play with the clutch cable and hill holder tommorrow and see what happens, and I'll try locking the diff.
  14. Allright, thanks! update: coolant leak was most likely solved by replacing the coolant hose to the turbo, and another hose while I was in there, also the coolant temp sensor was loose, and I cleaned it really good. But of course, when I fix one problem, another arises. Car goes into gear, but doesn't move. Tried shifting into a high gear, and letting off the clutch to see if it would stall, but it did nothing.
  15. Dangitt! where's my TWE parts? This is very cool. Good to see such nice numbers, Will
  16. Hey, when did you get that nice air-water intercooler on there? How's it running? --Todd
  17. Removed 5 or 6 screws, no plastic ones, and found no blinking light with ignition in acc??? Yep there was a problematic hose. The breather hose under the pitch stop was cracked, so I went a nearby hose shop and replaced several solidified hose. Car ran much smoother, and the turbo worked as it should. YEA!! But alas the crappiness continues...still getting some coolant spray. Seems to be coming from the passenger side of the intake manifold. This has new gaskets, and It is properly torqued down, although it wasn't a couple days ago. Maybee I'm paranoid, but I think I can hear pinging. The timing has been checked several times in the last week, and its on the dot, premium gas. bah ---todd
  18. So this is on the column itself, not the panels with the fuses? I've checked the hoses a billion times, but I guess I'll take some peices off, so I can get to all the hoses, and make sure they're as snug as possible
  19. Lets start with the trouble codes. The car is an 88 RX. Where are the connectors located? There is 2 black ones and 2 green ones under the steering column. I know the greens ones are for the timing. If its the black ones, am I supposed to watch the check engine light for blinking, because nothing happened, and where is the o2 monitor? My manuals are very unspecific about any of this. Turbo troubles. I'll give you the sequence of events. The car had an idle problem solved by replacing the idle air conrol, gasket was most likely the problem. Car worked fine, Take it for a drive around the loop, and everything is working well, turbo's kicking in like it should, then eventually the sound changes. The turbo is now making a whooshing sound similar to driving through slush, and I'm not getting boost, instead the car begins to bog down. Drove the car back, and there's coolant all over the engine. I figure out the problem is the intake manifold was not torqued down enough. So I fixed that, but there is still the problem with the turbo. 2 other things, is the oil pressure guage supposed to fluctuate depending on the type of driving I'm doing, and the volt meter is reading about 14, shouldn't it be around 12? Thanks
  20. In the installation guide it said, that TWE had not had to raise the engine on the installations done in there shop. Did you find that you couldn't manouver without raising it? Haven't gotten my shipment yet.
  21. I just noticed that picture says bork3d on the liscense plate
  22. Dang! That looks like fun! Liked the videos of the RX Will, good action there Gotta do a little sideways action of my own for the 1st time driving the RX with the new engine. Had a foot of packed snow on a nice private lane, very fun ...I gotta find out when the next rally race is, that video got me going.
  23. It should sound like shaking a can of marbles, heard under load or acceleration
