88 RX. I changed the distributor timing the other day. Thinking I could advance it a little, see if the car liked it better.....It didn't. So I set it back to 20. Green connectors connected both times. The car still runs horrible. I have a knock sensor code. Sensor seems fine, car still runs bad with it unplugged. The car has zero power. It has muffled front end backfires when trying to accelerate( or even pull out of a parking space) with actual loud backfires occasionally. It is running rich. ?

Its easier with the suspension compressed if I remember correctly. Can you put some jackstands under the hub or something like that to let the car down? -
Sweet. Wasn't Woody driving an STI when he lived in Cali?

So I know WJM had set something up for oil coolers, and eventually his source crapped out. What are the current options?

Great getting to see some new, and old faces today. Probably the coolest meet I've been to. Must be the whole old gen factor. -

Don't you have a fancy battery/alternator tester at work? -
I have a 1985 Motor magazine that I need to scan with several page spread on the RX. I'll get around to it.

The answer is too often the same - "EJ it"

I just have to add that my RX never ceases to amaze me when I drive it down a logging road. Throw it in low, and it is always in its power band, it handles like a go-cart, never misses a beat. Everytime I get irritated with that car, I should just drive up a mtn road again. RX meet? I'm down -

My theory on the EA82t is to "lightly" modify it. I put on nice TWE exhaust, p&p'ed the turbo, k&N drop in filter. But the most important things i did were to replace all the hoses and sensors, and stuff like that. I have replaced the engine 1 time, due to the original being bad when I bought it. My RX still has bugs that aren't fixed, but I drive it anyways and enjoy it. My other car is a STI RA swapped legacy. It is much nicer and faster, but I enjoy driving the RX just as much. I say mod it, but have a backup car to drive while you work out the kinks:)an ej powered subaru will suffice -
88RX rust spots cracked window broken grill mouse poop smell in vents from a year ago:mad: no rear wiper 1 small dent tear in driver seat upholstry temp sensor is whacky throwing 2 CEL's

Maybe I haven't been so dissapointed with the EA82t like the others because I have another subaru with plenty of power. So the RX was my 2nd car. I went pretty basic on my RX as far as power upgrades. TWE headers, port&polish on the turbo, and then go for suspension goodies. It has provided me with an enjoyable car to drive( as long as a sensor or something isn't buggy) If you are going to do anything to the car. 1st make sure all the hoses and sensors are in good order, as well as intake manifold gaskets and head gaskets.

Sorry to hear about the acci-dent. If it means widebody sooner, then it can't be that bad.
