I am picking up an 85 RX turbo for $200 this evening. Paint is faded, seats are shot front and rear, does not run, grill is broken. But on the plus side, it is and analog dash, crank window , 5 speed turbo with dual range , new tires, and new exhaust. It is also an Arizona car so....NO RUST! I will be looking for some seats - either black, grey, or beige -a new grill, and probably some other goodies as the project goes. I plan on painting it beige like my old wagon Swamparoo , 6 lug conversion, 4" lift, 26" off road tires. If you have some goodies you want to sell or trade for it shoot me a pm. I will atttempt to post pics of it and my wife's GL10 at some point in this thread.

R12 Refrigerant - How Much? (quantity)
swampbrat replied to Subarule's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What is not working on the system? Did I miss that? Does the clutch pull in on it? The compressor is the device with the 2 hoses and the sensor in front of the clutch. 12 is great stuff but increasingly hard to find- just missed out on a new full jug .If you go to 134a you have to resize everything or you loose about 30% of your capacity. I have been rebuilding systems using a refrigerant called hot shot ( 414B ). I nhave access to 30lb cans but I have bought 12 oz at NAPA. -
90 wagon went in trash but still have...glass , 5 speed push button trans, door, fenders, axle shafts ( 2 are new ), driveshaft, gas tank , control arms , rack and pinion, accesories, new exedy clutch, etc. Need to be gone before May 15th move. Located in Northern Arizona. Come see grand canyon and lake powell plus get a truck load of parts or just a few. email or call - will post in fs section too....928-640-0651 Greg

come on ....have a heart! POST SOME PICS for us - it's bad enough we won't ever get a ride in one!

It's a non- interference engine. Will it turn with the starter motor? Possibly pull plugs and check in cylinders with light or scope...

Well , I got it apart. Apparantly the nut holding the wheel on the pump worked loose. I wallowed out the hole in the drive wheel so now it just spins on the shaft. Anyone have one? It is an 88 EA82T , let me know how much $ , I can paypal you or send a money order - but I need to get this thing out of my friend's garage asap. Thanks!

regarding changing anything- no. Actually I hadn't even opened the hood since rebuilding the pump except to add wiper fluid. It seemed to be a success , 3 weeks ago I buttoned it up - tick was gone , oil light was gone, took it up to 100 , ran great. All of a sudden , 3 weeks later, light goes on fill time and ticks are back with a vengeance. You can definitely tell that it has no oil pressure , I just don't know how it could go from great to 0 instantly. If the cam squirters and stuff don't make that much of a difference , i have to assume I did not torque something down enough or something let go. Dirk , could you describe the procedure you mentioned in your last post , I am not familiar with that? BTW , thanks for the replies - I am going to start digging into it after work today.
-
yep , using the little one it came with. I drove it around the corner - ticking bad. I hit the hi point in the road and coasted in neutral to my friend's garage ( where my tools are ). Right before I shut it down an audible alarm sounded. Scary , I hope I didn't score a bearing or hurt the turbo. BTW - thanks for the reply , either not many people on the board lately or everyone is really sick of this topic. I know I am.

searching with quotations now....

nobody?

Could it have something to do with the spring that controls pressure to the cam sprayers? If so , is it servicable with the engine still in the car? It looks like if I need to buy another pump , a NA motors would work. There is one on ebay but their feedback is only 97%...

3 weeks ago I rebuilt the oil pump ( 88 gl10 turbo. ) it got rid of the tick and the intermittant oil light. running 10w30 hi mileage with a little stp in it. seemed great, today the light came on while my wife was going to work and the tick was back. Light does not shut off at all now and lifters tic. I changed the oil ( synthetic 10w30 and factory filter )- no change. Has something else let go? If I search I come up with the "too many" notice regarding terms. Thanks- I am really getting depressed...

My 85 did that . It was carbed and sucking oil out of a bad PCV.

Project GL-10 Turbo Wagon *WARNING PICTURES*
swampbrat replied to Dodge Aries K's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey , hope I am not hijacking your thread , but I just parted out a wagon w/ ea82 and it had a 2 week old exedy clutch in it. Only it was non turbo so not sure if that matters. pm me if you need some doodads off it. exterior was white and inside was blue. -
sky is the limit with your imagination. Top Gear rocks!

Finally- my new 4wd D/R wagon!
swampbrat replied to jonlittleford's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
welcome to the board - beautiful wagon! Nice seats , snazzy matching floor mats, very clean. I think you will find your blower problem is a resistor pack. Fairly easy to change but hard to find a good one in the junkyard ( common problem ), new ones are pricey. If you search the board , there is a lot of write ups on them. -Greg -
desperate attempt to fix overheating
swampbrat replied to dadob's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Pressure is temperature , brakes work at what ...3000PSI ?? I never would have thought of this , let alone try it. Excellent first post - hope we don't see you on the evening news. -
EA71 Out of Round main bearing supports
swampbrat replied to howpow's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Indeed , the bolt patern on an ea71 is the same shape as an ea81 , but about an inch smaller. If we were not on opposite ends of the planet , a friend of mine has a built EA71 with a tuned turbo sitting on his shelf. ( he lost his health license and no longer builds or flies helicopters ). -
cool, I really need to find some friends I used to wheel with out there. If you have questions about titles in Az , my wife works at a car lot and knows how to fix a lot of problems. Not sure about NM laws tho.
-
cool racer , what is that supercharger off of? Is that a delorto carb stuck on it?
-
That's the blue one from Flagstaff isn't it? I was talkin about going down and looking at the 2wd - I need it like a hole in the head. I used to go wheelin in the glade with some NM buddies of mine. Do people still go out there?
-
You sold it , what were you thinking , we were just getting started! I was going to give you Alan's # in tampa. He pioneered the 4.3 Samurai swap back in 86. There is some cool tricks to make that motor smaller....

Welcome to the board! Nice wagon , thats a funny story about your kid and the window:lol: , sounds like me showing my boys how to cue up a record! You guys in the great NW have it made. A friend of ours just moved up there today , we want to go visit her sometime - I told my wife we are going to fly one way so I can bring home another Subaru! -
have you already dropped the engine crossmember?
