  1. It seems that the only thing we are disagreeing about here...is whether a new carb will just bolt on and go, without any final tuning. I suggested earler that he just buy a weber, since the stock carb is ok at best, and needs emissions equipment to run properly.
  2. Ignorant about buying new carbs, i may be. Im more familiar with getting used, abused and poorly tuned crap, and turning it into good equipment. I have frugality and mechanical aptitude, and experience. You tell the guy what you need, cut a check, and bolt it on. To each his own
  3. Have an assistant turn the key while you measure what voltage youre getting at the starter. Then youll know for sure....but id just replace the starter
  4. Sure its possible...buy a carb, bolt it on and its spot on. But very rare, id think. Jetted for a subaru? Huh? How about jetted for altitude? But yeah, my properly tweaked weber passed emissions (with a hollowed out cat) gets about the same mileage, and runs stronger than stock.
  5. You shouldnt have the lines from the valve covers tied directly together. Drivers side goes to the PCV on the manifold, the other runs into the base of the air cleaner. That way its forced to pull air from the crankcase
  6. that's a pretty small ratio change, I don't think itd be a big loss. Youd need to change your rear diff too, though.
  7. Welcome aboard! This is the place to be, to learn more about your bradymobile. They are fun little rides for sure! Ive never seen woodgrain on one.... I used to freestyle BMXs way back in the day, but never did get very good at it. Then i got lazy and tired of hurting myself! See ya 'round Dan
  8. that spot works well enough to make you think it's fine. full cup of coffee + not thinking about holding it there = sticky shifter and coins and french vanilla carpet. btw, I'd mentioned hacking up S-10 cupholders to retrofit into the GLs console. bad idea, they're worse than the spot between the seat and e-brake
  9. I found a note on my car once that simply said, "you drive like an a**hole" I L'dMAO:burnout: but I digress.... I'd just call that person up and refer them to this place.
  10. A vehicle like that needs dents! I love a car or truck with character
  11. Ive offroaded with tire chains in dry weather before. They're noisy and will rattle your teeth out if you go too fast, but they sure work well. I dont leave home without them. You never know when you'll need to get over an obstacle that your AT tires just cant handle
  12. While im not very familiar with hitachis, i do understand carbs and how they work. My weber took a fair amount of fiddling to run properly. No off the shelf carb is a bolt on and go affair. But tuned right, it runs circles around the hitachi. Just sayin
  13. Its my understanding that the hitachi will not work properly without the emissions junk hooked up and working right. I may be wrong there. Do yourself a favor...consider a weber swap. Mine runs better now than it ever did when it was stock.
  14. I'm not very happy with any of the easy options we have. my newest idea is to grab the cupholder section out of the center console of an S-10 blazer, and then hack up my '84s rectangular section of it's console, to accept the S-10 part. (or whatever junkyard cupholder I find that would fit and not look like poo)
  15. If there's nothing mechanical keeping the idle that high (idle speed screw, or linkage) than I'd suspect a vacuum leak somewhere. stock carb? are all your emissions doodads still hooked up?
  16. yup, precise location of the studs is pretty important. but the studs are designed to sit upon a flush surface. I'm pretty handy with a grinder myself, but I know it'd end up with high spots. would you rather have all the pressures exerted on the entire stud head? or on just a 10th of the studs head? I'm a cheap bastard, but $100 is well spent on peace of mind. to each their own:popcorn:
  17. I had all 4 of my hubs done locally at a machine shop. The drilling i wasnt too worried about, it was creating a true flat spot on the back for the new studs to seat against that bothered me. $100 well spent
  18. I did this on my baja too. That chime is bad enough to make a man want to return the thing to the dealer and get a refund! Why, oh why does it need to chime when its running and in park? But yeah, it took two attempts at this method to get it to work. Aaah, peace and quiet
  19. Ive had next to no luck with reman's too. Got lifetime warrantyd ones from autozone and they suck. But their "new" ones were even worse. Im gettin about 5-10,000 miles out of them. Stock suspension, new motor and trans mounts. I drive it like its stolen though, so i thought maybe it was just me! I figure i can keep foing this route....but it has got to be hell on the trans' output bearings! Ill look in to the subaru remans
  20. I dont have a link or remember exactly where i found it..... Look up "tire size conversion chart" in your googler, and a couple sites pop up. The one i used was miata related....sorry best i can do. Its early, need more coffee
  21. Welcome aboard! Im in colorado too, south of castle rock. Ive got an 84 GL and an 06 Baja. My first was an 86 GL that i flogged mercilessly as a teen. It never quit on me and sold me on a subarus worth! I miss that car.
  22. Usually if theres a piece of garbage in between the needle and seat, not allowing it to seal closed, its refered to as stuck open. You may have got lucky and dislodged whatever it was, just in messing with it. For the adjustment screws, i use a screwdriver thats pretty dang long.
  23. Hey now don't judge...my 84 is my primary "bar car"... But i just go to play pool and hang out with my buddies. And drive their drunk asses home occasionally
  24. The selection of 13" tires is crap. All i could find was chinese garbage. Tire selection was my main motivation in doing the 6 lug conversion to get a bigger wheel.
