  1. you can go to most any auto parts store, and they will tell you why the engine light is on, free of charge. The cruise could be any number of things, and I couldn't even begin to give you a good answer
  2. Type of Wrenching: mostly shadetree, formerly professional How long doing it: professional for 9 years, shadetree for 25 or so years Other skills: metal fabrication, so-so carpentry, formidable pool player, all around know-it-all:)
  3. cut out the front and rear fenders on my 84GL a couple days ago...and now it's sitting on 6 lug isuzu wheels with 195-80-14 BFG ATs! new shocks, struts, wheel bearings, brakes...I think that's it. I will post pics one of these days!
  4. it does still have EGR. all the emissions are intact, except for the lines that add air to the exhaust (can't remember what it's called...too early, need coffee:slobber:) I'll check that again. I did plug the line to it, and it didn't seem to make a difference
  5. my 84 is all stock (carb rebuilt by me maybe 5,000 miles ago), with 220k-ish miles. it runs real well, but the other day, out of the blue, I come to a stop and the idle is really really low. like maybe just 200rpm. it stayed running kindof, but it sounded a bit rough as well. if I give it just a little gas, the idle comes up and smooths out. the next day I plan on working on it, but she fires right up, idles perfect, and I couldn't get it to do it again. I write it off as a fluke and forget about it. then I go to drive it to work, and it starts idling goofy again! it acts like a carb problem, but I figure it's an emissions doodad causing the problem. please enlighten me subaru gurus!
  6. that's a real nice ride! I wish I'd found somethin like that when I was in the old subaru market.
  7. Mike,

I'm in castle rock, colorado! thanks for the response though.

thanks for the welcome too! see ya 'round

    Dan

  8. that BMW's a very nice bike! I have an uncle in Germany that still flys around on a very similar ride (amongst others) my pop and I are workin on restoring a 71 Norton 750 Commando that had been through Paul Dunstalls shop. it's gonna be sweet!
  9. you fix this thing yet? I have a 96 S-10, and it did exactly what you described, and sure as ************, it was a head gasket. took me a bit to figure it out, cuz it ran great, didn't overheat...just leaked a bit (impossible to see where it was coming from, too), and smelled of anti-freeze. I used the opportunity to port match the heads, gasket match the exhaust side, add headers and a computer flash. runs Fn great now!
  10. I nailed a freakin rock this morning that was buried in the snow:-\ it was a good 60lb piece of granite, and I was going maybe 20ish. tire's gone. wheel's done too. sonofa... now after lookin at getting new snow tires, and finding a ridiculous lack of tires for 13" rims, I'm cramming info on going to a 14-15" rim
  11. that's what I'm sayin... I'd take a valve spring off, open the valve to it's max lift, and see how wobbly it is.
  12. that's a pretty nice rig. Primer black is awesome. mine's currently multicolored, but I keep thinkin about just rhinolining the whole thing in black. you guys go out wheelin together?
  13. wherever you can squeeze them into the rubber line, is where I figured they should go. drivers side, it' the rubber line at the air cleaner. passenger side, it's closer to the pipes (take the tire out). i don't have pics, but you really shouldn't need 'em. just keep air from flowin through the lines. best $.50 I've ever spent
  14. I was wandering through a junkyard a few weeks back, and got to looking at a 2.2 sitting in an L line. the engine department doesn't look a helluva alot different from my 84. have any of y'all done this swap? .4 liters, EFI and another gear sure could come in handy!
  15. you are missin out! snow is so fun. nerve wracking for passengers maybe, but fun for me!
  16. you guys rock! $.50 and 5 minutes...done! no bangs, no burbles...just smooth. sweet.
  17. I have welded on my pipes. I torched a hole in the top of the Y in order to yank the catalyst out, then patched it. but, it is tight. no telltale signs of leakage at all, from front to back. but, I am gonna plug those suction valve pipes and see where that gets me. I sure appreciate the feedback!
  18. I have a 74 bronco (351 cleveland, c4, 32s, 2.5" lift, uncut fenders) and I freakin love it. just curious if anybody here owns and/or wheels one
  19. okay, I've got an '84 GL, 4x4, 4 speed trans. runs great. hitachi 2v is rebuilt, wires, cap rotor, timing (11 btdc), valve adjustment etc etc all in great shape. the only problem is an exhaust backfire in between shifts, or just letting off the gas all of a sudden after I've been "getting on it". sometimes just like a little burble, but the majority of the time, it's like I shot a 9mm. it's so bad, my muffler has actually expanded because of it. if I shift fast enough, I can get to the next gear before she bangs (the tranny synchros hate me) my book says something about an "anti-afterburner valve" but I can't find one, or even more info about it. any ideas there? thanks for reading! Dan
  20. howdy all! just wanted to say hi before I started probing your collective mind for info... I'd been lookin for a pre-85 subaru for years, and finally found mine maybe a year or so ago. it needed a complete fuel system do-over from tank to carb (sat for 8 years with fuel in it) axles, ball joints, wheel bearings, a little electrical, exhaust, trans seals, rear hatch latch, new seats and a thorough detailing. she was a real POS, but after some blood, sweat, beers and cussing and TLC, she's my DD. I love this thing in the snow...it's the only time I can pass people! well I'm stoked to've found y'all, and hope I can maybe answer questions once I'm through asking! cheers! Dan
