  1. What year subaru? On my 84GL Im currently running 195x75-14s (25") with no lift. I cut quite a bit out of the fenders...3" in front, and 1.5" in the rear, cuz im using isuzu wheels which have a lot less offset, plus I like to be able to use tire chains so i needed a bit more room. Doesnt ever rub, even when I say, " hold my beer and watch this!" Once these tires are toasted, im going to put on 215x75-14 and i dont anticipate any rub then either.
  2. Im keeping track of what y'all come up with here. The survivalist in me says that propane lasts forever, and i can fill up at home! Plus, i think itd be fun to build a 2.2 with a ridiculously high compression ratio.
  3. Drove my GL to work yesterday, and the rearend kept making random pops and bangs. Thought for sure that a CV was on its way out. Nope! On the way home, the sounds were getting worse, then i started to smell, then to see smoke! Pulled over and the left rear hub was smokin and pretty hot. Got it limped back to my work. So ive got some bearings to replace
  4. I totally get what you're saying about keeping it simple...which is why i love carburetors, and distributors that can be readily converted back to points/condensor, if need be. So keeping that in mind, have you considered grabbing a 2.2, and throwing a weber on it? Thats what i have up my sleeve, when it finally makes it onto my priority list. On a side note, i have an old bronco with a 351 cleveland with about 11.3-1 CR, and i run it on 91 octane...but with careful timing adjustments, i can still run it on 87 ok, and have run it on 85 in a pinch. Thought id bring that up cuz no matter the displacement, the tighter you squeeze the mixture, the better bang itll give ya.
  5. Yup, theres a drain. Hope you get it figured out quick, cheap and easy
  6. I regularly (every oil change, while im rotating tires) douse my boots with silicone spray
  7. In our baja, we mounted the boys carseat on the passenger side, with the latch system. It does rob a bit of room from the passenger front...but my wife's short so its okay. If you have any doubts about the best way to mount what you have, you can go to any fire department and theyll help you out and give advice if you need it.
  8. I have a thrush turbo muffler, and it sounds pretty good. Not overly loud on the highway, but you can hear it...and a nice burbly idle
  9. So is it loose so much that you can wobble it side to side? Lateral slop?
  10. Does it start to act up as well? Or just the smell of fuel?
  11. This is another reason ive never bought a brand new car. As soon as you sign the papers, that car is worth thousands less. Why would you even buy a car with the intent of selling it back to the dealer? I buy a car and drive it till its not worth fixing. If you want a new car every year, why not lease?
  12. I wouldnt worry about an extra pump. If you were pumping the coolant up an incline then maybe, but its just moving laterally so it shouldnt be an issue. I would definitely plumb in a capped high spot for burping purposes. Kinda like a fiero
  13. Heres another of my boy and I. I sure do love that kid! You can kinda see the GL, parked behind my bronco....
  14. My poor whipped GL was getting kinda gross.... so i Shoveled the dirt from the floorboards, cleaned out and organized my cargo area, and blew it all out with compressed air. Still need to clean the windows!
  15. I just like a car with character. Something old and aesthetically challenged that you just dont have to worry about. My 84 doesnt have much in the way of new car upgrades (except seats, and a cd player with better/more speakers) and though id like more ponies underhood, i dont have any immediate plans to swap an EJ motor. My baja I kindof worry about, cuz its still a nice car. Door dings and offroading damage kinda bother me. The 84? Who cares! Drive it like a rented mule, smile and dont worry.
  16. Where do ya plan on going? My weekends are pretty much booked, but if ya dont wander out too far, i may be able to make it
  17. I tried those, and thr right side was clicking the very first time i moved the car!
  18. Thats why i bring tire chains with me when im wheeling! Foul weather can make mild trails awesomely entertaining
  19. Me too. Ive used nothing but Wix for as long as i can remember, and have always been happy with 'em
  20. Yeah thats good fun. A few years ago, the wife and I took our S-10 on a wheelin trek for a week, with a book of ghost towns and several trail books; using those we found the gnarliest routes we could to find the ghost towns. It was a great time!
  21. The wife and i have been lots of places like that, but lately we stay local. Theres a couple of trails off of hwy 105 that get washed out and can be quite entertaining. Not much time to wheel far away from home though.
  22. Cool, welcome aboard! My thrashed on 84GL and I are just south of castle rock. Where do you like to wheel?
