  1. I've been looking for a new crank sensor for a 1992 Legacy. The cheapest I can find new online is $235.00. Where are you getting them for $35.00?
  2. It's the bushing that the lock pin bolt slides through. It is inside the dust boot on the bottom of the caliper and needs to be greased often. The caliper "floats" in and out on this bushing and sometimes gets stuck if it is worn. Just greasing the lock pin itself is not enough. If you have a Haynes Manual, an exploded view of caliper components is on page 9-5. :->
  3. Try pushing out the lock pin bushing (sleeve) and see if it is worn or out-of-round. My right hand caliper was sticking and I replaced the bushing----- works fine now.
  4. Could you tell me exactly what you get with a rebuild kit. I asked my Subaru Dealer about a caliper rebuild kit and they told me there wasn't one, I needed to buy a whole new caliper.--- I knew they were wrong! Thanks
  5. I broke two Craftsman 1/2 in. breaker bars trying to get mine off. I bought something called a Craftsman breaker T-bar from Sears (Napa has it too) and it worked wonderfully. It is a large bar with a sliding 3/4 in. socket head. It is in the shape of a T, so one hand pulls up on one side of the bar while the other pushes down (excellent leverage). If you don't have access to an impact wrench, this is the next best thing.
  6. I haven't found an honest mechanic yet. I dread getting my car inspected every year---always trying to rip me off!
  7. Frag, Starting from the top to bottom: 1. Dust cover cap 2. Nut 3. Strut mount (with 3 upward pointing bolts and bearing) 4. Washer (may be tappered or flat) 5. Upper spring seat (this is what has two hole in it which must point outward) 6. Upper rubber seat for spring (may or may not have) 7. Dust boot ( ruffled piece -accordian like) 8. Rubber bump-stop 9. Lower rubber seat for spring (may or may not have) 10. Strut and housing and of course the spring in the middle note: I bought new dust boots (KYB) from Tire Rack.com and the rubber bump stop was integrated into the boot (all one piece).
  8. Frag, I just got done replacing the 4 struts on my 92 Legacy. This was the first time for me. Some problems to look for that the Haynes manual doesn't mention: 1. Make sure you note the position of the upper spring seat before removal on front struts. Mine had two holes which need to face outward, torward the two strut-to-knuckle bolts.I neglected to do this and the strut didn't fit back up into the wheel well; strut touched the body. 2. I had to make my own tool to remove the damper shaft nut while holding the shaft with an allen wrench. The universal strut removal tool I bought at the local discount store wasn't the right size. An impact wrench would work too, but I didn't have access to one. Also, the shaft nuts on my original struts were 17mm, and my new KYB GR2's were 19mm. Other than that, it was not bad at all.
  9. Mine kept coming loose too, but loc-tite worked for me (the high strenght type--red in color I think- let sit 24 hrs). How tight are you tightening the bolt? (in ft lbs).
