  1. I've SEEN cars that probably have higher HP, but it's never documented. I saw this video of a WRX that looked almost stock, it ran an 8.5 quarter... but nobody ever told me what it's HP was
  2. 385HP? Holy cow, that's one of the highest HP Subarus I've ever heard of!
  3. That sucks you can't make it, Jared (This is Tex's friend Jay, by the way. I sold my old wagon and bought a Turbo Legacy).
  4. I did the shocks on my old '85 GL wagon, and it was very easy. 3 bolts (granted they were TOUGH bolts). I havent a clue how the suspension on the legacy is though. Also, are the parts the same for turbo, N/A, and wagon? what years?
  5. The more I read about it, the more I get excited. I wish there was something i could contribute other than just showing up.
  6. The car is a '93 Turbo Legacy sedan. So whenever I go over mild bumps (like a bumpy road or whatever) there's a clunk the rear. Doesn't happen over speedbumps or anything big like that, but it's enough to make me think my shocks are worn. Does this sound right to you guys? I'm not so good at diagnosing suspension problems but this sounds likely. I've read of some of the symptoms, and that seems to likely culprit. What's the most efficient way to replace these? On my old wagon, I scored a set of shocks with springs for a good price. Am I likely to find the same deal for my Legacy? And lastly, does anyone have or know of a set of stock shocks (and springs) for sale?
  7. I believe tex ran a 16.9 quarter on his RX, he had some mods on it too. I THINK the stock HP is somewhere around 125, but I forget exactly.
  8. The fluid seems at a perfectly fine level, and as best I can tell, the belt looks good too. It's tight enough and doesnt look like it'd have anything which would cause it to slip. Does anyone know exactly what PS pumps will work? Are they the same on any 90-94 Legacy? Are they the same on Turbo and N/A ones?
  9. So lately my car ('93 Turbo Legacy) has had a significant whine at idle. Also, when I'm driving in parking lots (or slow speed situations) the steering shudders, and I can feel the steering labor away. I'm pretty sure it's my power steering pump. At first, it would only whine after the car had been driven a while, but now, the car has a horrible whine right when I first start it up. Also, I get an occasional odd smell coming from my car when I start out (at a stop sign or light or whatever) that smells faintly of burning plastic, or rubber, not sure exactly what. I went to a dealership to check out the price on a new pump, and was quoted $390. This is way too much to pay, so I was going to check out used pumps. Do you guys know any places that would have a new pump for cheaper, or should I just get a used one? Would the build quality in a used one hold up to a new one? Do you guys know where I can find a used one? Anyway, I greatly appreciate your help and advice!
  10. I'd really love to go to a rallycross with my Turbo Legacy, but I'm hesitant to take my daily driver! Especially when I have no reliable backup to speak of.
  11. The fluid level is way up there, in fact it might be a hair too full, but not sure. I'll try checking the pulley to see if it spins without any "slop".
  12. Hey all, I have a '93 Turbo Legacy. EJ22t, 5-spd AWD. I'm starting to notice slight problems with my power steering system. When the car gets all warmed up (say after my long commute to work), the power steering pump gets very whiney from about 900rpm to about 2,000rpm. My other car is a Ford, so I'm used to whiney sounding power steering pumps. Lately, the problem has gotten a bit worse. Whenever I'm in a parking lot, my car has a noisy PS pump, and when I turn I can feel the steering wheel vibrate a little (I can almost feel the PS pump laboring away). And even worse, occasionally the wheel shudders when I turn at very slow speeds, or almost stopped. I checked the fluid, and it looks fine. The belt also appears fine. What do you guys think the problem could be?
  13. Now that all that is out of the way... 89 octane is probably just fine. I generally put in premium (92) but I notice not a single difference between that and 89 octane. Many people have said the same thing.
  14. Well that was possibly the easiest repair job I have ever done. I went to Carter Subaru to ask about hose and to see what size it was exactly. The guy gave me a 12" section of hose. I pulled the old hose in about 30 seconds (the car was parked all day, I took the backup to work). Not a drop of fuel leaked out. Another minute or so later, and the car was running fine. Thanks for the help guys :-)
  15. So fuel hose is flexible enough that I can just buy a length of it and bend it in to shape? I was under the impression that I needed a special fitted one, but I guess this makes much more sense. What about any tips for replacing it? Just do it in a hurry so I dont lose too much fuel?
  16. Hey everyone, I have a very cracked fuel hose on my '93 Turbo Legacy. Its to the point where fuel GUSHES out of it when the car is running, so it needs replacing ASAP. However, I don't exactly how to describe it to the parts guy at the dealership. Can anyone explain to me exactly what hose this is? Any tricks to replacing it? Is fuel going to come pouring out when I disconnect the old one?
  17. Just a quick bump on the thread to say I'll be there fo' sho'. Someone's gotta represent the Turbo Legacy crew I laugh at your 1.8's! 2.2 4EVA!
  18. Not sure what you're asking... You can swap the bumpers, if that's what you mean. They'll bolt right in. I put a newere Loyale bumper on my '85 GL wagon before I sold it.
  19. Wow, my old thread was brought back from the dead! I feel bad because I never ended up buying that decal, I sold the car for almost twice what I paid for it without replacing the sticker :-)
  20. I believe it's for safety ratings in the US, something about 5mph collisions. If you swap out the bumpers, remember to grab the turn signals too.
  21. I'm sure I'm not helping much, but the only RX I've ever ridden in (Tex's RX) has a D/R 5-spd, AC, and power windows. I don't know if that would differ between sedans or hatches or whatever.
  22. Hey! That's a supercharge inlet pipe off a Thunderbird Supercoupe! I know because it looks awfully similar to something under my hood :-) http://home1.gte.net/res0ibjw/supercoupe/IMG0001.jpg
  23. Am I the only one that expected pics of your brother?
  24. judging from how your car behaved on the drive down to seattle and then back.... the car is still drivable for weeks... if not months! :-P I didn't see the temp rise at all.
