  1. just like mudrats design. but less expeeeensive. heh... anyhow i just asked you because you mentioned a few months ago that you plan to make a tube style rear bumper. maybe it was THIS thread, i forget. id post a pic of the one i had in mind. seems rude though. im already asking his competitor to make me a product of his design. posting up photos i assume you are already familiar with, that seems a bit much, you know? thats just my take on it. also have a question about the lifts. if i go minimal, like 2", does that affect the steering column? camber? brake lines? i dont want it real tall. im a rally man, not a crawler. good center of balance and being able to take a gravel road curve at 30 or even 40 is MY excitement.
  2. you mentioned in a past thread maybe being able to get more springs with the extra inch height?

would love to buy some. id pay double whatever you get em for. on the condition you explain em to me.

  3. anyone still into this thread? i know its kinda old. i would DEFINATELY be into some mandrel bent stuff. nobody mentioned rollbars?? something with wraparound protection in the rear would be good. like an extra 2x2 extending to the back of the rear wheelwell? rocksliders? a really slick, but not real heavy, front bumper that ties into the frame in a few places. p.s. im aware that some of these pics are from mebers. i hope they dont take offense to me using them. i just felt they best illustrated my point. also, the wheel well box, i can make those. somewhat off the subject of this thread, but yea. let me know. i havent tried diamond plate yet. no promises
  4. brat back bumpers are SO much fun to remove!! the bolts are so easy to get to. it doesnt just make you want to use a sawzall and a torch on each one.... <cough cough> royal pain in the butt. but anyhow, whats wrong, you dont like that tube bumper? i thought it was cool. cant really say when id have a barbecue at my house. not exactly the most predictable june ive ever seen..... i have a MASSIVE brush pile waiting to be lit. kinda thought brat owners could appreciate the oh so classic pleasure of a cold beer and a bonfire, and random car talk. mid-july is my best guess. my backyard has some decent offroading spots. just big enough to play with 2nd gear for a minute.
  5. well no offense meant. i was more of a guns and roses fan in that era. then i eventually transitioned into alice in chains, sooo yea. lol.... totally off-subject. congrats on fixing the problem. good feeling. people with new cars never have to deal with these probelms. but they never enjoy the satisfaction and pride of SOLVING it, either? its worth it. and if you DO have any probelms with a 2000 or newer ride, and it DOES happen, even in my 2009, GOOD LUCK WRAPPING YOUR MIND AROUND THAT SPACE SHUTTLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT!!! lmao.... stephen hawkings crap.
  6. anyone have any pics of the TUBE style rear bumper? my factory bumper is toasted. they are crappy anyhow, like a recycled beer can or something. the box bumper looks awesome, just toooo..... heavy for my taste. im a rally man, not a crawler. more like pooparus rear bumper, maybe. lean and mean and slim. again, im not saying its BETTER than yours, just more to MY brats style. a tough daily driver with some hair on its grapes. not a full on cliffhanger and mississippi river wader. so if you or anyone on here could let me see a couple pics of the tube style rear you mentioned, id love it. p.s. your website doesnt mention lifts anymore. do you still make em?
  7. i thought that was bon jovi...... a quick thought. electrical is probably my weakest point of skill in older cars. but having recently been poking around the exhaust and the bumper/tow package, i repeatedly noticed this: the fuel pump and its wiring, and a lot of the brake/signal/license plate lighting is very exposed and hangs very low, and loose. mine all works, but it DOES make me think theres a huge potential for snagging it. even in pretty mild trail play. your brat doesnt look like its been beat hard like say qman or worse yet, one eye. <no offense to them, its an offroad vehicle.> but its still a very rare brat thats NEVER been trailed at all in thirty years. so maybe the wires didnt come loose at the terminals, but often the wire itself, or more specifically the inside, the copper threads, can wear out from a good violent snag, and yet show ZERo evidence of damage on the outside. my classic xbox controllers are a good example. the plastic cover looks fine, but the wire itself is more wore out than ozzy osbourne. lmao.... just a thought??
  8. still no pics of the tubestyle rear bumper? i know how car wrecks freeze frame all your projects for months, believe me, my spine was snapped in may-2007. but if you DO get a chance, i would love to see a couple pics of what they would look like? i got an 83 brat.

trublue is one of my best friends. great guy. and he had nothing but great things to say about your work quality. good enough for me.

  9. hey whered you get those brat bumpers? i weld, well duh, but i dont have all the tools to make some like that. HTI makes great ones, nothing wrong with em, just not my style. hti's are like heavy crawler bumpers. yours make me think more of rallyX.

any idea where i could get one like your back bumper? any help is mucho appreciado, senor

  10. looking great, BOTH of you..... i like the back bumper. if you want to get rid of it, id like it, but no pressure. i am trying to have a sort of one time casual meet up at my property in maple valley. not too big, 5 or ten people. preferably just 80s soobs. bon fire, barbecue. mainly an afternoon/eveneing thing. but if anyone needed to crash in their car or a tent, cuz they came from far away, thats okay, my yard is twelve acres. maybe some mild offroad play. dont mean to hikack the thread. just letting you know cuz you are <i assume> new to the area? <oregon plates>
  11. hey buddy. hope all is well. glad you got back from east in one piece.

  12. what do you think of me getting a ej18 in my brat, versus rebuilding and upgrading the ea81 or just getting the ej22 instead of the ej18?

  13. oh yea, i also have some nice welding facilities to play with. a carport and a professional lincoln mig, and oxy torch. an a few other older welders. so if anyone wanted to whip out a quick project, i wouldnt mind. itd probably be fun for me to watch.
  14. im willing to take credit for a lot of that shortcoming in brat population. thought my damn engine would be back together. it runs great all year, and then 2 years in a row, mid-april rolls around and something farts out. then, abracadabra, no brat meet for mat. guess i coulda just gone anyhow, but my tacoma has may-5 tabs. maybe wecould all do a mid summer get together? im not aware of any laws that say people can only meet up in late may. i have a big yard, we can have a bonfire, barbecue, loud music. few decent mudholes near me. and my property is right off of 4 major roads <I-90, hwy-18, hwy-410, I-5>. people could camp in backyard. i have about 500 feet of riverfront on the cedar. if anyone is up to that, just let me know. i suppose i would even allow showers if y'all clean up after yourselves, lol.... later
  15. i think leavenworth is quicker than eburg. maybe. i dunno. seemed that way in my mental map, at least.
  16. i need to know all the ins and outs, electrical, mounting points, tranny, and where to BUY the actual good, low mileage ej18 to throw in my car. PLEASE INFORM??? and i dont need to hear about how ej22 has more power. i dont need THAT muchpower. double my stock power is ENOUGH thank you. can i use my original ea81 transmission? the d/r 4spd? or i would gladly source a d/r 5spd. may as well improve thetrans at the same time as the engine. i m in the renton, wa area. i ordered and paid for a nice full gasket set on EBAY for my ea81. never showed up. bunch of BS.
  17. DANG my luck. last year i was all readyto go. my brat was stuttering, seemd an felt like a major problem. turned out the rear fuel filter was full of crud. fixed that in less than 5 minutes and 5 dollars. This year, my bra was running decent, smooth and reliable at least, not much power though. so i got ambitious and removed the ea81 <200,800miles>. with the intent of cleaning out crud, new gaskets, shave heads for compression, and markjw generously offered some spi pistons, so even ore compression. and i had recently bought the magnaflow cat conv/ Y-pipe replacement for my rusting factory exhaust. even brand new, the exhaust obvioulsy was built with a lot of pinches. for anyone interested, it made a DEFINITE difference, power and a nicer sound. otherwise, my only upgrade was the weber. long story short, i cleaned the heads and block and everything, inside an out, spotlessly clean. i ordered the only full gasket set i could find. <not many ea81 gasket sets available, btw.> estimatedshipping time, 12 days. today it is about 40 days later, yea, FORTY days later. no gaskets. and the wost part is, this years brat meet is much closer to me. i am not far from north bend. any tips on where t get gaskets? mayb someone near me ca help with a quick reassembly? i have plenty of cash, at least by brat budget standards, not mercedes standards, but hey, I WOULD honstly rather drive a brat even if i owned microsoft or boeing.
  18. today would work but its gettin kinda late. i have decent lighting in my garage but its occupied. so i planned to just use the gravel driveway. but if you can be here by 4:15??

i know thats a long shot , but yea. anyhow, i am free tomorrow also.

  19. yea man. you HAVE my cell number. and NO im not over the flu. its fkn bad. but

nuthin to stop me from doing ten minutes of Mig bead. give a call.....

i was WONDERING whathappened. you were supposed to be calling me on thursday after 3pm.

  20. i can do that job in like ten minutes, if you dont count pulling tools out and putting tools away. i will do it for free, if YOU do the prep work. just clean off all paint anywhere you want the weld bead. at least 1/2". half inch.

    any experience with ea81s?

my phone is dead right now. battery. 206-914-1246

  21. yea, im around tomorrow.

just been working on my ea81. got it on my living room floor on a scrap of carpet. scrubbing the grease off and getting rady for new pistons, camshaft, gaskets and some mild port smoothing.

  22. please help, SOOOOOMEBODY!! lol...... i have it all apart, was cruising right along, smooth as butter. got the oil pan off, the intake off, the heads off, distributor, timing cover, and oil pump all off. now i cant figure out how the camshaft comes out. i could probably just monkey with it til something happens, but im kinda shy about being too aggresive. i m accustomed to iron muscle car engines. this is the first import engine ive ever worked on so deeply, and the first cast aluminum engine, and the first boxer engine. i READ the "ultimate subaru shop manual thingy". didnt have any luck. can somebody explain, in CLEAR detail, the next step? im just trying to replace my pistons and my camshaft. also what is the deal with my camshaft? do i gotta replace my bearings ANYTIME i replace my camshaft? and where can i get a good FULL SE of gaskets? <head, intake, front timing cover, etc....>
  23. i am a welder. i can do pretty good mig in my garage.

let me know if u want sum work done. i work out of my own garage in maple valley,

and i wont charge you your kidneys and virgin daughter.

  24. just exactly like the original factory subaru brat LOW rollbar. fit really tight and close into the lines of the cab. how much would you want, for the work?

  25. the exhaust, just 16g 1 7/8"

the rollbar, i guess like 1 3/4" and probably about 14g?? i guess i would just trust it all to YOUR judgement. i want my rollbar to be FUNCTIONAL. but not huge diameter, cuz i sleep in the back of my brat sometimes, and space is already limited. inch and a half seems okay.
