HELP please!! i took apart my guts to swap to a shorter lift kit. but things came up, it got neglected for a few months, did a ton of work out in garage, wiring, roofing, cement stuff.... now the bolts are MIA, missing in action. and on the PLUS side, they wouldnt have been long enough anyhow. on the DOWN side, i coulda used em for reference, so at least i'd know what diameter and thread count the females were. now i have NOTHING to go on. my lift is 2 in rear, 2.5 in front. who can tell me what bolts to use? also, the washer/bushing thingys on the mustache bar ball joint are a bit rough lookin, 2 are great, 2 are kinda chewed up. i think they are good enough to use, i guess, but where would i get replacements?

ummmm my car is kinda pulled apart..... again.... but yea, i could still take pics. believe me, though, with ZERO wheelwell bashing, these 215-65-15s fit and LOOK beautiful!! width and diameter is perfect. even with NO lift, i think they would probably fit nicely. i have the 15 pug alloys, im not sure what the offset is on these, but they fit great and no rubbing yet. -

dont bother with 1" lift. completely pointless. not worth the trouble of the ten dollars of new bolts and washers. go 2 in rear, 2.5 in front. its mild and minimal, as you desire, but at least enough to be worth the time and energy. if you lift it 1 inch, why not 3/4"? why not 0.5 inches? i like the 2" option, cuz the driveshaft is still tucked up somewhat, and the exhaust is still out of danger. <mostly>. -
they look great, fit the body and wheels-wells perfectly, and they dont weigh much, or screw up the gearing. AND they dont kill my tranny. i tried 215-75-15s, too tall, and just looked funny. these blizzak ws50's do okay in the mud, but are TECHNICALLy a snow tire. but havent failed me yet. pics soon.

no you are very correct. the ls1 came out in 97. my car was a 95 firebird formula. came with the LT1. but i bought it from a renton honda dealership. and it was the dealerships owners previous personal car. i bought it with roughly 12,000 miles on it, he got the honda s1000 to replace the firebird. he had dropped in a 98 ls1 off of a totaled vette. ls1 was like the base model engine on vettes at the time, i think. it had a lot of power. but i got that just after getting used to my 69 riviera gs with the 455 stage 1, with a few minor hotrod parts. nothing major. the rivy came with a 430. plenty of power. but the guy i got it from had changed out the heads, or bored them to 455 stage 1 specs, or somethin, i forget, 14 years ago... anyhow, it was like 510lbs of torque at 2800rpm. and had the sp-400 which is like a turbo-400 that only came out on riviera and maybe gs??? and it had what is known as a variable pitch torque converter. in a sense its like variable valve timing. you get the best of both worlds, high rpm and low rpm. so it grunted even HARDER down at 1400rpm. and still hummed smooth at 4600 rpm. but apparently they cost a fortune to build and all, so the sp-400 tranny was only around a few years. if they break now, the shops just put th-400 guts in them. so sad..... im off track now. point being, the ls1 was fast, and better top speed, better gas mileage <not that the 455 stage 1 wasnt surprisingly decent cuz of low rpm torque>, but after all that instant brickwall smashing, stump ripping torque, it just seemed.... like a rpm screamer. now that ive gotten into brats, i kinda like that smaller free spinning engine. but at the time, mehhhh...

yea its very nice. the interior is like new. but the bed is rustier than an old fishing boat. he got my weber and ea81 intake manifold. and my magnaflow Y-pipe/cat conv. thanks for the heads up crazyeights. he was a good guy, id like to say HEY!! and also, he bought my steel 13s, and i couldnt find the centercaps. he asked, and i couldnt find em, said theyd show up soon. couple weeks, he asked, i said id find em, couldnt find em. on and on for a few months. just got a new shipping container, 20 footer. to expand my garage/workshop. moved a bunch of my junk around on the shelves to clear room, so i could cut a door between the two containers. BAM theres the centercaps i hunted high and low for. bleeechhhhh

pointlessly HEAVY!!! chevy 350s have a lot less horsepower per lb, than an ej22. also, ls1 is not that aazing of an engine. everyone has them, i had one when they first came out, in a convertible firebird. fast by 1996 standards. not that amazing these days. 280 horsepower from a 5.7liter? yawn... my factory stock 2009 toyota tacoma gets that from a very basic and standard 4.0liter V6. im not complaining. 280 horse is plenty for me. but it CAME WITH 280hp. i didnt go though long frustating alterations and frame cutting/welding to get that engine. the ecotec inline 4 looks like a better option. the LNF 2.0 has 260hp at 5300rpm and 260lb tq at 2000rpm. not bad. and MUCH better fit, size and weight, than a 350. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-2-4-Ecotec-engine-very-low-miles-/270905415737?hash=item3f13389839&item=270905415737&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr slightly different model. but very nice. and great price.

he is an african guy named alex. i did some work on his black brat, and sold him some parts off my car. my cell phone died and i lost all my contacts. that includes suberdave, tru2blue cody and qman ken. he is very african. has strong accent. think his brat is a 1985. he works in southpark seattle, and lives in shoreline seattle. his brat is on stock 13s. and it is his daily driver. if anyone has seen him, it would be helpful..... on a side note, been seeing a lot of brats lately. last saturday night, thatd be the 21st, i saw a tan or beige brat with canopy, coming east from edmonds, towards aurora village, i think it was 220th ave. and yesterday i was in covington, at the big 5, big lots, mcdonalds, and there was a 1st gen brat in decent condition, factory stock, and i had a chance to talk to the guy, mid 20s, nice guy. said his dad runs and owns a salvage yard in black diamond. has a few extra EA-soobs on the lot.

youre ALL stupid!! bunch of old ladies arguing over quilt patterns. lol.... just playin... im sure chinas quality is slowly improving, to keep the market interested. but its still relatively garbage. and the attitude of "who wants those jobs anyhow"? thats a rather short-sighted philosophy. when the national population is EXPLODING exponentially, not everyone can be a microsoft executive or a boeing engineer. somebody has to actually CREATE a product, or they wont have a job. and yea, you can just go on welfare and foodstamps. but i assume, that must have a limit. i like the feeling of creating a real product with my own two american hands, here in my own town. i dont care to be force-fed walmart garbage that doesnt last a year. even if its half the price, i dont WANT to drag out my fridge, oven, television, shoes, and pants every year or often less than a year, deal with hauling it to the dump, going to walmart and buying a crappy replacement, and hauling it back home again, etc etc... aside from national pride and environmental reasons, and a strong belief in self, or at least local, reliance, how about the simple basic factor of CONVENIENCE? i dont want inferior chinese garbage, manufactured with toxic chemicals and mountains of lead, being discarded in my backyard, due to the fact that, say whatever you like, GD, but chinese crap DOES NOT LAST. my personal experience in reality. old navy clothes dont last. my TV, like all tvs, is chinese. i bought it in 2003, a 27" sharp, full box tv, crt style. it is now 2012, and i have had ZERO problems with it. sharp picture, good sound, etc... a 27" tv suits me just fine and dandy. and yea, i assume sharp brand is from china. okay. 9 years -- no complaints. say what you will. but harbor freight is garbage. walmart is trailer trash crap for fat slobs in stained sweatpants who gave up on life years ago. if anyone takes offense to that opinion: kiss me when i bend over. when communism is on your porch, cry to someone else. -

the number, 5000k for example, is not a measurement of BRIGHTNESS. 5000k is a specific point in the band of the color spectrum. imagine a rainbow. if you had to, in a technical and accurate way, tell someone the coordinates of a point, like telling someone when new york is located, of a certain shade of red, or a certain shade of green, WITHIN that rainbow, how would you give them directions to find it? its not a 3 dimensional world, its not even 2 dimensional. 2 dimensions, you can go up/down, and left/right. a rainbow is like an fm radio dial. here in seattle-ish area, you have 88.5, which is like jazz and npr boroadcasts, at the start, the minumum frequency for public stations. thats 88.5 KILO HERTZ frequency. and then you have 107.7 which plays alternative rock. 107.7 KILO HERTZ frequency. to get to my point, you can only go UP or DOWN on that radio dial. 1 dimensional. a rainbow, or LIGHTBULB, is the same story. a rainbow is one brightness, or LUMEN from red to to green to purple or what have you. there are no variations in light output, a.k.a. lumens, or candlepower. only variations in color band. thats is what the numbers used in headlight advertising refer to. a color map. spectrum. not a kia spectrum, those are just communist garbage. japanese is the only asian cars worth a damn. but aside from science, id like to throw my personal opinion in there: super bright headlight piss everyone off, and hurt the eyes of oncoming traffic. when you are going 60 mph, and oncoming traffic is going 60mph, and all you have between these 3,000-8,000 pound steel objects, with a combined speed of 120 mph, is BLINDING the guy going towards you, with nothing to seperate you but a millimeter thick strip of yellow paint, really a bright idea? yes, bright would be a pun, thank you. i know about a dozen people personally, who cant see their own damn steering wheel, or count their own fingers, when a set of those excessively bright headlights comes past them at night on the highway. and yet, <thanks china>, the manufacturers and advertisers are crooked enough, and greedy enough, to use SAFETY as a marketing point? there are a lot of things that caused car-crash related death and injuries in the 70s, 80s and 90s. but factory stock headlights are, i would bet my rump roast, at the bottom of that list. my brat headlights are original, and yea, annoyingly, frustratingly dum and weak. and i myself want something a bit brighter. just, you know, take it easy. sometimes an ounce is better than a pound. moderation in all things, is a sign of maturity and wisdom. i like a woman with curves, toothpicks are no fun. but look where taking THAT logic to an extreme gets you. lol... thats all, im out of analogies and metaphors. <bows>. -
EA81 front leveling options.

just lift the front struts like 1 or 2 inches. it will work very well. i had my friend sube101 make me a custom lift. 2 in rear, 2.5 in front. havent got it in yet but i expect it to be total gravy. but yea.... dont count on JUST adjusting the struts. better to use lift blocks, man..... not really worth wearing out CVs just to change the posture of the body. -
an ej15 would be CRAZY powerful in that application, also. just a lot more complex design..... youd have all the computer crap.

shipping containers are a very very RIDICULOUSLY strong core to start a nice garage. pain in the rump roast to break into for thieves and meth-heads. my garage is a 24x8 9'6" tall. the typical standard container is rated for 426,000 lbs. no thats not a typo. four hundred, twenty six thousand pounds. each one holds about 65-70 tons, and only weighs 5,100lbs. much less than youd expect, net weight. there are pics of mine on here somewhere, i think the threa dis called Belated build pics. this HERE isnt mine, but a cool example of what can be done for cheap.

back shocks, people usually just make a Horseshoes looking extension, about the size of a pack of cigs. you could just use longer shocks, but the tops end up angled in farther than subaru had in mind, so i think it may affect the ride?? i think if you are confident and capable of making the strut tower yourself, the rear shock extension should be easy breezy, butler geezy. speaking of geezer, whats up with ozzy? that douche would sell out for ANY commercial that offered him 5 bucks!! minivans, now?? whats next, tampon commercials? allergy medication commercials??? seriously? minivans? what the hell, ozzy?

scotts stuff is, i have always heard, top-notch quality. a baja pre-runner brat would look AWESOOOME. not sure how a fwd primary/4wd hi-lo platform would compare to the usual tacoma and ranger approach of rwd only. i think those baja trucks are usually just rwd, no front action at all.... doesnt mean it wouldnt be cool though. even in front 2wd, my brat does pretty good offroad. a lot of times, i dont even bother shifting into 4hi. seems unnecessary most of the time.

i wouldnt weld the lift on. everyone just uses bolts. why would you want it welded on>?

"how HIGH" you can go, im not sure theres technically a scientific limit. but 4 inches is by FAR the most popular lift around. theres probably a dozen 4" brats for each lift of any other size. but i know there are also 6's and i think theres even a 9 and a 12 out there.... my advice is, 4 is plenty, and its safer, less chance of flexing the bolts going around a corner, until they snap, or until you roll over off a cliff, lol... the ea81s are independent suspension, which means, when you get that far up in the clouds, theres not much stability. toyota pickups and such can handle a lot of lift. solid axle. but when each wheel moves SEPERATELY, thats a LOT of potential wobble and roll.

4 inches is very popular. the rear blocks would be super easy to make. i decided on 2 inches in rear and 3 in front. i didnt make my own, but a lot of people have. one eye is kinda famous for his, hes done a few. the wheels and tires are a major part of getting an ea81 higher off the ground. the main reason most these guys lift the body, is just to fit those taller meats under the wheel wells. try a 215-70-15.

i dont know G D very well. he kinda rubs people the wrong way at times, i tend to rub people the wrong way at times also. but gd ALSO has a well deserved reputation for going out of his way to give people in need on here detailed information on all things subaru. he has helped me a dozen times. with no benefit to himself. im not trying to take sides. i barely know gd, never seen his face. but just wanted to throw in my 2% of a dollar. odds are, if you just tell him SHADDUP! and then get over it, you will need some help with something or other a few weeks or months in the future, and theres a very high probability that HE will be the guy who takes the time out of his day to help you, or at least aim you in the right direction. we all bug each other on here. we are men <mostly>. we piss each other off. it happens.
