he forgot to mention that the bumper was SPECIFICALLY designed to hold compressed air. so you can air down your tires for the trail, and always have a source of compressed air anywhere you go. very handy. ive seen bumpers like this, with the air tanks built in, go for over 600 dollars. 400 used. that was for a mild steel bumper with some cheap black spraypaint. not sexy rump roast stainless that will easily polish up, but unlike chrome, will not look like crap if it dents. chrome flakes, scratches, etc... stainless is HOT. i wanted it but funds are tight.

trouble with wheels!

i have two steel 15" pugs, with no lugs. they have 195/60/15 michelin x radials in excellent shape. let me know if anybody interested. maybe one of them would make a good spare? the tires are great, and the level of aggressive that i want. just too small. i think they must be roughly 25.8" or so. im running 27s. actually, that brings up a good question. since my brat is fully independent suspension, and all four corners are on their own: what is the maximum SAFE size difference of spare i can use? -
ej18 is lighter, better efficiency <gas sipper>, and makes a good amount of power, without killing the rest of the drivetrain. also, it never ever ever overheats. the block is twenty feet thick. plenty strong, takes a ton of abuse. but yea.... as far as the wiring and ECU go, i got all my info from suberdave. he knows a TON about EJ swaps. suberdave is like an encylopedia of subaru knowledge. im not saying that nobody else here knows anything. just saying that dave was who i dealt with, and he really knows his... ....stuff..... gotta watch my NC17 vocabulary on this pg13 forum, lol.... ive got myself a serious potty mouth. better work on that, huh?

the pick is a lifted F150. i didnt even check the link. the small pic is enough to tell that much, right away. come on guys, i thought you were car people? its not a studebaker or a maserati ghibli. there are 500 of these just in my small town, its the most recent design of an f150. you see em all over, everywhere you go. you know this. lmao.... -
83 brat, 3/2 lift.
tallwelder81 replied to tallwelder81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
this is the basic idea then, yea? <sorry for stealing your brat pic, mcbrat>. if you cant find 2.5" tube, maybe you could just combine 2" and 1/2"? i know, im sorry, pain in the backside. im just real shy on the CV angle situation. the straighter they sit, the safer i will feel. i figure, even a HALF inch extra clearance for my oil pan, etc, will help me out a ton. also, i have a skid plate, for the LONG style bullbar. its mild steel, lots of surface rust, and heavier than a Vespa. it gets the job done, pleeeenty strong. but it is designed for a stock suspension. i doubt it can even be FORCED to work for a 3 inch front lift. how much would it cost to get a nice clean aluminum plate made? good quality aluminum. maybe... 1/4" thick. with like 8 or 12 small < 1" > ventholes, and a big 3" drain plug access hole? is that a possibility? i bet if you went to the trouble of making one for ME, lots of other guys would be interested also. -
if i build a lift for my brat, does the front strut lift NEED to be the same as the front crossmember lift? to put it another way, if i lift the front 3 inches, do i need to drop the crossmember 3 inches? or can i drop the xmember 2 inches instead, and thus gain an inch of ground clearance? someone, not to be named, told me that works? im not trying to call BS on them. i just want to be 110% certain that is okay??

p.s. PBR is a good beer, for a cheap daily beer. i used to be a high life man, but got over that. pbr is the stuff. not too sweet and not too strong. just right, for wrenching and listening to the radio. -

you spent 230 on that rusty steel? dont they have fabricators out your way? columbus is very industrial, lot of manufacturing. i would have assumed there were a lot of fabricators out in that area. i could easily make them, if anyone wanted, and i had something to copy. i really want one too. just been working on engine and suspension, and decided driveability was priority. if you can get me EXACT measurements, i can produce a batch of.... say 5 of them, for starters. and i could send you half of the profit of my first bar sold. i would make them for hmmmm.... 150 for the first 5. so id give you 75 cash, if you get me exact measurements of your factory low rollbar. what do you think? all angles. and the width of: top spread, front bottom spread, and rear bottom spread. -
Addco sway bars for ea81?
tallwelder81 replied to aaronxs400's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if they bar "hump" faces DOWN, below the exhaust, does it affect ground clearance much? i have gone to a lot of trouble to get every millimeter of clearance possible without putting on a sky-high lift. also i have the skid plate that come with the LONG style bullbar. does anyone know if they would fit together and not drag? or interfere? -
215-70-15 is great!! lots of good a/t tires come in that size. its big enough. wider without really being too wide, and tallish without killing trannys or hurting acceleration too much. i also lean toward medium sidewalls. thats why i went to all the trouble of getting 15s when i couldve just thrown 27x8.5x15s on, and got the same overall dimensions. the 215-70-15 is supposed to be 26.85. with a sidewall a half inch shorter than a 215-75-15. i wish someone would make some strong, light, affordable 16x6s in 4x140mm. then id just run 215/65/16s.

forget the 14s and 15s. there are many options already available. what about 16x6, i love the look of the mid'profile tires on an ea81 or ea82. like some 215.65.16s? -

well, TWO blocks. and yea. i have 4 jackstands. and they are all harbor freight garabage. honestly, i would trust a styrofoam cup more than the jackstands i own. and i appreciate your concern. i realize the blocks weremt ideal. but i am super buff. if the car falls, i will just benchpress it, and throw it into the next county!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! lol.... i am hoping to, at some point, get a used lift for my garage. trueblue got me spoiled with the convenience of a nice lift. i did my exhaust on his. and we kinda started the bullbar, on his lift, also. -

i can never get my pictures to come up big and clear like the other posts on usmb..... anyhow, heres some more pics. the tires are a 185-75-14 on 14 pugs. and a 215-75-15 on 15 pugs. the stock, as you probably know, are 185-75-13. so i went from 23.92 to 24.92 to 27.69 the new 15 tires are just some used republic ensigns from craigslist. i paid 80 bucks. i want to get some discoverer atr in 215-70-15. they would be 26.85. p.s. anyone have any experience with Heads Up top-end rebuilding and performance shop, in auburn, wa? they quoted me 400 cash for pulling and replacing my cams, and a nice 5 angle valve grind. no, i dont mean they make or sell cams. what i mean is, you know, i will get the fabled delta torque cam, myself, and they will pull the factory cams and replace them with the delta cams. i figure, you know, im already pulling the heads off for cams. why NOT do a performance valve grind while im in there? -

bunch more pics.!!! got a 4 inch lift kit. it is nice, but i got it half on, and was like, "damn, thats too tall for me". got my ej18 totally hooked up, at least in the mechanical sense. the wiring still needs a few details smoothed out. -
you are M.I.A.!!!!

Are 175/70/13 tires too small?
tallwelder81 replied to Montana Derek's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
and yes, thats an AWESOME price for michelins!! x radials are what i have on my brat 14s, they are 185-75-14s. QMAN sold em to me. they have been nothing but great. i was always pretty happy with the increase, and the pug 14s are very handsome, without being too "pretty". i just recently got 15s. i wont say the pug 15 alloys are UGLY per se, but in my personal taste, the 14s have a nicer look. -

tallwelder81 replied to Montana Derek's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
NOOOOO!!!!! even if you dont want the lifted, mudder/crawler look, dont go SMALLER than stock!! 80s soobs already have such small tires. i personally would have liked a 195-75-13 on my stock 83 brat. not huge, but a nice meaty and subtle increase. -
i am a good welder. and i dont know much about fiberglass work. my canopy needs a bit of touch-up. no holes or bruises in the main canopy. its just..... the hatch area, it doesnt fit tightly. the aluminum farme hatch itself, its a hair smaller on the sides??? the drivers side just needs about a 1/4 inch pie slice patched in, i think. but its GOTTA be strong and sturdy. id appreciate help. but its gotta be real help. not halfa$$ work. and i will do the same for you on any welding you want help with. i am in maple valley. thats kinda south of renton, wa. NW of black diamond/enumclaw.
