I swapped an EJ22 into an EJ18 car and kept the EJ18 I.M. I snapped one of the fittings off this "vac solenoid" and can't find a replacement or part number for the life of me. I'd rather replace it than glue it. Also, if anyone knows what it does exactly, that would be nice to know. It sits on the pass side of the manifold, just above the purge valve (at least that's where it was mounted when I got the car).

The wife's 2015 Outback 2.5i Premium w/150k is currently at the dealership with an EPB warning light on and an issue with the left rear parking brake sticking (the recall was already fixed). The service desk claims the VDC hydraulic unit and the right side of the harness needs to be replaced. From what i've researched, the EPB is entirely electronic/mechanical on this vehicle and not included in the hydraulic system. It also makes no sense to me that the right side harness would cause left sided failure of the system. It's not having a stroke. Part #s- VDC H/U #27596AL00E & harness #26018AL02B. If anyone can confirm or deny the service desk's claim I'd be more than appreciative. We really don't have $1200 to flush right now.

Three weeks of fighting wiring issues and a stupid simple clutch problem and the beast breaths fire. Engine is in and pretty well buttoned up. There's some interior and exterior body mods to make it driveable and we'll be shttn in cotton.

Help! EJ18 to EJ22 swap, leftover electrical connections
Fubaru replied to Fubaru's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I'm seriously out of ideas and I'm sure I'm going to feel like a moron when the answer arises.... if one arises. Edit: Confirmed - I feel like a moron.... Fixed: The cable was not installed correctly nor adjusted correctly before I bought the car and we left out the small plate between the flywheel and crankshaft when we installed the clutch. The clutch now seems to function as it should. Thanks GLoyale for your patience! -
Help! EJ18 to EJ22 swap, leftover electrical connections

Got the TB put back on in what looks like the correct manner. It seems like the TB isn't reaching the pressure plate. I've hit a wall. -
Help! EJ18 to EJ22 swap, leftover electrical connections

The engine is back out. The throwout bearing appears to be incorrectly attached to the release fork and has what appears to be excess play on the input shaft. -
Help! EJ18 to EJ22 swap, leftover electrical connections
Fubaru replied to Fubaru's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I feel like I'm probably missing something stupid but here's the layout... The 2.2 came from a donor car that had an AT. The torque converter was removed and the clutch pack inatalled. That engine was then inatalled in the car that had a 1.8 and Manual trans. We never pulled the TO bearing off the trans shaft because we weren't replacing it. I apologize for making that sound more complicated than it is. -
Help! EJ18 to EJ22 swap, leftover electrical connections

GLoyale, I tightened the clutch cable adjustment to the max with no change. The pedal is very soft and doesn't feel like it's engaging. -
Help! EJ18 to EJ22 swap, leftover electrical connections
Fubaru replied to Fubaru's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I reset the timing and the engine started. I also found the loose wire in the plug the was keeping it from kicking on the fuel. I guess that needs a new plug spliced in. New issue, the trans won't shift into gear with the engine running. Maybe the throwout bearing isn't reaching the pressure plate for some reason?? That seems a bit weird. -
Help! EJ18 to EJ22 swap, leftover electrical connections
Fubaru replied to Fubaru's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I used the hash marks but I also installed an aftermarket crank pulley and I'm unsure if that could be set wrong. I too thought it was odd that the bracket grounded the harness. I'll revisit the timing also. Thanks! -
Help! EJ18 to EJ22 swap, leftover electrical connections
Fubaru replied to Fubaru's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Ok. Everything is hooked up (as far as I can tell) and I'm getting a crank-no-start. It wasn't getting spark until we bolted down two brackets that held electrical connectors on the passenger side where the engine and trans mate up. Seems like an odd ground but I now have spark. Cam gears have the same number of teeth on the rear and I swapped out the cam sensor with no change. Didn't set the timing correctly, perhaps? -
Help! EJ18 to EJ22 swap, leftover electrical connections
Fubaru replied to Fubaru's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Sure was. Thanks Gloyale! It's a 1.8 manifold that matches the car on a 2.2 from a donor. Neither car/exhaust has a downstream 02 sensor so I guess that plug is obsolete??? -
- Fixed - I'm almost positive this has been discussed but after hours of searching the boards, I'm at a loss. I swapped a 95 ej22 into a 95 ej18 car. These 2 electrical connections remain unattached and I'm uncertain if they were ever attached to anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Roof vent done... and for comparatively cheap. The engine is on hold due to missing one flywheel bolt. 8 new ones should be in Tues. then the engine should be going back in.... hopefully.

Delta cams installed in the obnoxiously colorful 2.2L and the hubs are re-studded to accept the steelies wrapped in maxxis bighorns. Intake manifold needs to be assembled and installed. Then on to the body and suspension.

Ferp - I can't see the pics but I really hope you meant "tubing" not "pipe". Other than that, cool idea!

I picked up a 95 impreza 1.8L with forester suspension and brakes previously installed (bad engine- swapping in a 2.2L and Delta currently has my cams). I ordered trailing arm bracket spacers and I'm pretty sure the maxxis 27x8.5x14 tires on offset dirt track wheels will clear the spring perches and won't require any (or too much) beating or rolling. That being said, I'd like to know what else (within reason) I can do to possibly get a couple more inches of lift without binding axles and such. I've read through as much of the lift threads as I can handle and haven't found a straight forward answer. I also spoke with someone at a reputable rally/off-road shop and was pretty much told that the forester struts were the wrong way to go from the start and I am stuck with the current setup or re-do the whole suspension format . Any help is much appreciated.

Vac leak turned out to be a bad valve seal. The hesitation and dead spot continued to get worse until the 1.8L met it's demise in West Virginia one fateful day in May. The maximum depth of water a "forester lifted" impreza can cross without a snorkel is less than 20 inches. After a $200 recovery and tow bill, she limped home on 3 cylinders and is now waiting for the 2.2L swap with Delta cams. Wheels and tires shipped yesterday and I'm hoping to be pulling the 1.8 sometime next week.

Headlamps and modified corner markers/turn signals are in and the oe rear bumper is back on until spring. Now to get the intake smoke tested in an attempt to find the vac leak.

This project has been sidelined multiple times due to work and training but here's where I am, 9 months in. Interior is 80% and all of the shift linkage parts came in. The door locks are fixed, skidplate installed, antenna replaced, and aftermarket headlamps are nearly fitted.
-
Got some interior in place and the aluminum skid plate is in and ready for pickup at the machine shop! Pics to follow.

Four months later the little beast has a new color, a winch mount, new seats, and roof rack mounts. It's slow but makin progress.

Crossbars came in. They're not "universal" enough. There is no way to attach the rear bar due to no rear door jamb for the clamp to hook on. Well, when in doubt, get the welder out. Hopefully I'll have pics to post tomorrow.
