  1. I did that with my Brat. It's a push button ignition with a toggle switch to light everything up. After tinkering with the switch I put it back in and the car would not start, no juice, nothing. So I pop the hood and thought I did the fusible link set-up a number, so I went through redoing the connections and all. Then, out of the blue, I remembered that I had another fusible link connected to that switch and low and behold, I blew the fuse in it. Could have saved time and hassle had I remembered that first.
  2. I parked in front of a Cadi here at work and as soon as I saw the hood I knew it was that exact thing. Odd previous owner.
  3. Well, this brat is one destined for either parts or stripped to go into a buggy or trike. The body is shot. The things of worth are the engine and drive train. The body is just the packaging. As for a Cadi emblem, I can see it being that.
  4. Not worried about removing it, with the condition the Brat is in it only adds to it's value, maybe a 1/4 of a cent. As it is it's up for sale so I'll leave it to the new owner to decide what to do with it.
  5. That is quite likely. At some point they put a Diesel Power Stroke decals on the door as well.
  6. Anyone have any idea what this is or if it is part of an 81 Brat? It is in the center of the dash board.
  7. I'll keep it in mind. I'm still debating if it's worth putting the time, effort and money into with the various issues it has and the degree of cancer damage it has.
  8. Anyone have a source for a rack & pinion for an 81 Brat or have a list of compatable models/years?
  9. Seeing that really shocked me that you were in one peice! Glad to hear it and sad to see another Subie bound for the recycler. Maybe it'll be reincarnated back into a Subie. One can hope.
  10. Here is the answer given me for that exact question. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=120538
  11. I have a 98 outback but no engine lined up. I was just curious due to what was told to me.
  12. I have read about everyone suggesting sawpping the 2.5 for the 2.2. When I mentioned this to my mech and others I am told that it is a serious event as I would have to swap out computers and such. Aside from the engine, what other components would need to be changed?
  13. I have my 98's engine out and we are changing all the gaskets that can be done. also changing the rear main seal. Might be a good idea since it's going to have it's heads removed.
  14. One side, Not sure which ones as I have not seen the engine together to determine which it was. Based on what you said about exhaust, it's likely the intake.
  15. Got a few steps further on getting the engine back together. Since we had all the needed seals we pulled the valves and replaces the seals. What I found interesting was that there was a lot of carbon build-up one only one set of valves. Any ideas why that would be? So now the heads are ready to go back on the block.
  16. Try the starter fluid method. That was how I found it. I sprayed everything that had a vacum line and eventually I found it and when I sprayed the valve at the connection you could see it suck it in and the engine sped up.
  17. My 81 Brat did the same thing. I figured it out to the intake manifold leak. When the engine was cold the leak was closed or smaller. When it warmed the metal expanded and the idle dropped. Check that area.
  18. Northern Kentucky, Everything short of the body, engine, tranny, read diff, suspension
  19. What is the going price for an EA81 with drive train, 107K miles? It needs some seal work done on it but runs. Please fix the Database Error issues btw.
  20. Type of Wrenching: Shadetree What: What ever vehicle we have at the moment. Recently it has been a 2002 Jeep, the 81 Brat and now a 98 Outback. How long doing it: Three years Other skills: Brewing Mead, Leathercrafting, raising chickens and kids, cooking, European Martial Arts, computer/internet tech support.
  21. Thanks for the heads up. Any secrets on clearing them up that you won't have to kill me after telling me?
