  1. Oil looks good, Yes it over heats and spits coolant out through the overfill tank.
  2. The coolant lvl will be just right then as I drive the car it heats up , when i take a look the coolant has backed up and filled the overflow tank.
  3. Ok guys I need to tap into your collective brain cells again. My little Sub heats up in a weird way, The coolant backs into the overflow tank for no apparent reason ( yes I put a new radiator cap on). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  4. My hat off to you sir,, great internet diagnostics. I feel fully confident that when someone says " I hear a funny noise" you would be able to help))) Alternator done idiot lights are off, all looking really good( for now anyway) By the way , Mechanic dude (Dale) read your posts for reference and appreciated the info you posted.
  5. Electronic mess?? Now my brake light and brake fluid light are coming on. Yes fluid lvl is good
  6. For the record it is an 87 GL-10 turbo wagon w 96 miles. Last week I noticed my charge and at temp oil light came on and stayed on. Belts are new lvls are all good. Alt seems to be good. Car starts and runs fine. Spoke with my favorite backyard mechanic. He had no ideas after looking it over , all appears well. Any ideas?
  7. I have an 87 gl-10 turbo, I understand this has the EA82, if it is what you need I can shoot some pics for you and get them posted.
  8. Goo Gone It can be purchased at Home Depot, etc. Takes a small amount . the bottle will last you a long time.
  9. Twin Falls Idaho here, I don't know if that is a help ?
  10. Honeslty I should have started there, then posted, Stress makes me do stupid things
  11. Tons of great information everyone. It turned out to be corroded cables, Cleaned everything and starts up beautiful now. Working on other little odd and end issues. For the time being nothing major. Watching the temp like a hawk, carrying extra 50/50 with me.
  12. thank you for the info. This leads me to the question of what is a good Subaru for dummies book to help navigate my way through things to come. Searching the forms turns up lots of information and most of it conflicting. I don't relay want to buy 5 books hopefully no more than 1 or two for things like this.
  13. when checking out the car I started it repeatedly no problems.. a few hours after getting the title in my hand I went out and could not get it to fire. key turned, the usual beeps happened but no starter kicking in. Eventually 10- or so attempts it fired right up. I reached the PO, he said one of the keys he gave me is rather worn out to use the other, he also said he had had no problems with it. Today I again cant get it to turn over, doesn't matter which key, actually one of them doesn't turn at all in the ignition. I have tried turning the steering wheel a bit, this did not help. any suggestions?
  14. During the summer I tend to commute by bike allot rather than car, so I may well be able to do the tear down. Right now she is pretty crucial to work as we still have snow off and on. I do enjoy tinkering with cars and am not adverse to learning a few things. First thing to do is find a good service manual. Thank you for all the great info. I will be a steady lurker from here on out:)
