  1. Welcome to the site. A great place to find out info and people who know their stuff. I am on usually every day reading something or posting something that someone may use that I have done.
  2. So this is to all the guys in the Spokane area. I have not got to scout the wrecking yards around here and need to know what are the places to go in Spokane for the 80's Subaru's? I was cleaning my dash and the clear plastic already had a crack in it and the _______ thing broke. Yes, you heard me, so now I am on the hunt for one. Of course I needed one any way because it was cracked but now it is Broke.
  3. Year of the cars would help. These guys know them like the back of their hands.
  4. I stole one of my wife's makeup brushes. Works great. Nice and soft but of course I got yelled at. I told her it was for the Brat and that didn't do me any good.
  5. Anybody got any advice on what to clean the inside of the gauges. I have the clear plastic off and it does have some dust. Any advice?????
  6. Cool. No offense taken. My wife too mentioned it seemed cool to be able to show that the Brat had 223,000 on her already and then had upgrades and still driving on the battlefield. Guess I will just leave where it is. Thx guys.
  7. Hey thanks Numbchux. I have been reading your write-up, have it printed, over and over going through things to make sure I have it right. So I may be asking you some more questions and please be patient. I know you have done several of things and I always like asking someone who I know has done it successfully. Oh, and thx for the tip too.
  8. Hey Gap, I didn't know there was another one of us in Colville. So am I. Check continuity through each wire for the plugs. It may be a broken wire that looks fine but isn't. Like GD says, don't troubleshoot a rig with Visa. It is going to be something simple and something that is just being overlooked. Plus when you rev it, it seems like it is losing whatever voltage it may be getting before the rev. What do you mean Tested? Did you take it to Oreilys and have them put it on the machine? Like DaveT said, it might be loose when you rev.
  9. Wow GD, I did not know that about the Ea's. I know I have my newly rebuilt ea81 in my Rx with only 5000 miles on it and am looking at the Ej sitting next to it with 220,000 and am contemplating putting that in the Rx and even more so now knowing that the parts are getting so hard to find. Totally see what you are saying.
  10. So guys I am getting things in line and to be honest it only takes me about 15 minutes of reading on the Ej swaps and I am out in the garage trying to find something to work. Well I am getting the harness to the point of test firing before I start to install the harness knowing I am good to go. My question is, the engine is rebuilt, but I have not turned her over since the install of the engine components so I am wondering if I should squirt some oil down the spark plug holes and rotate by hand a couple of times before trying to crank? Any before cranking advice would to appreiciated. There is a lot of knowledge and experience on this site. Thx guys. Believe me, you guys are helping me do this swap more than you get credit for.
  11. I have the Brat cluster out and was wondering if anyone has ever hooked up the speed o cable to a drill and turn the odmeter back to 0000? I have a rebuilt 2.2T in the Brat and haven't even turned her over yet, but close, and wanted to take the odmeter of 223,000 and have her at 0 for the new engine. Any thoughts?
  12. So asking for confirmation guys; once I splice in the ECS light in my dash to pin 1 of the round plug in the back of the dash, I take that to the plug for the 2.2T ECU, F47, pin 19; right? That is what I am getting from the schematics.
  13. I have seen so many people with O.B.s that really look good. I like the green. If I had one, I have always liked the safari look.
  14. First thing I was change is the fuel filter. Something can be floating in the filter and moves around and cause some starvation problems. You actually might get a great deal if you just look and the basics. But what you do is have a friend follow you there or go there with a truck so if anything happens, don't even mess around. Just tow it back. They don't weigh very much. I used my Brat and I towed another Subie I bought all the way home and come to find out, it was a bad ecu. I had a spare so for giggles to check, I plugged in my spare ecu and she fired right up. Changed back to the bad one, and she would just crank and crank. Plugged the other one in and fired off and ran great.
  15. I put legacy front clip on my 85 Brat, but of course I had to modify a bit and of course it widened the front of the car by 2 inches on both sides but I just put spacers on the rear to correct that. For $100, snag it dude. Well worth it and if the parts you have won't fit for what you need you can see them to guys on here and get the ones you need.
  16. Nice work on the exhaust DaveT. I have not tried to Tig yet and the more and more I see it I want to try it. I paid someone to do the last exhaust on my Rx and then when I got underneath my car I want to beat him with the exhaust. It is garbage. It looks like a child playing making metal stick together, and I paid $400 and got garbage. I guess I should look into a tig machine.
  17. Sounds electrical to me, especially the ecu was telling you before it lost communication. Time to start hunting. Maybe it rubbed somewhere and cut through some wires or something came unplugged, hopefully. I hate when you take your car to the dealer and you are expecting them to know the cars inside and out and they don't. It's like taking them to a auto mechanic who has never worked on a Subaru. That is why I love this forum and work on all of my own stuff. You got these days. Too expensive otherwise.
  18. I don't believe so. I have been under the dash several times and I haven't ever found an ecu, but the Brat probably had option, I'm guessing. And I just confirmed, the door tag said made in 12/84; so it is an 85.
  19. It is an 85. But I don't know what you mean feedback carb model?
  20. I have seen a lot of you guys talking about it. Can someone explain that?
