  1. You have to think too that it isn't going to fight against gravity. You would have to be driving through water all the time and 4 wheelie through water all the time for that to happen. More likely it is coming from above. I had water in the way back of my Rx under the carpet where the jack is and crap and would pool water until it rotted it out. I couldn't figure out where the water was coming from until I decided to try to take out the tail lights and I found the problem. It was running down the hatch gutter to the tail lights and running into the inside of the car. Made a huge mess out of the car. But if I hadn't of found it, I wouldn't have made the awesome rear tail section that I sport now. Check out "What have you done to your Subie Lately", close to the end. I am going to go with "What is water from above for $200 Alex".
  2. So I have an 88 Rx with disc all the way around. My question is; is the hubs the same all the way around? Front and Rear the same? Comments and advice please. Oh, and you will be graded and this may be on the final.
  3. Welcome my fellow Subie Brother. I did not know that about Yonkers NY. Interesting fact. See you around on the site.
  4. Might have to build a custom one. Research begin.
  5. That is B.S. I haven't checked but one site that used to do that was Edmunds.com. It would tell you what the dealer buys the cars for. One guy, found out what the dealer bought the truck he wanted and then offered $500 more than what the dealer bought it for and it took 5 dealers but the 5th one took the deal. So it is the time when you buy. Best time is very beginning of the month or right at the end of the month. That is when they are trying to make there commission. In a book a read that was written by a car saleman. You just have to shop around, know what the car is worth and deal. The Dealer who wants to make the deal will deal. There is a place close to me, DaveSmith, sells car and trucks, and he awesome on prices, and I have found Subaru's there, people fly in, he has people pick them up at the airport and bring them to their new vehicle. He has dealerships all over and can get "any" vehicle you may want. I would give them a call or look them up. DaveSmith.com. Plus the money you may save, it can be shipped.
  6. Oh yeah, one more modification. It is mentioned in the write up that it may increase cv angle from the rear diff outwards. So what I did, because no one likes to do a mod that causes more problems down the line, is the four bolts that hold the the rear diff, I lengthened. I set my floor jack on the rear diff, with the tires on the car, removed the bolts that hold the diff., then slowly lowered the jack until I liked the angle of the cv's. Then I measured the distance and with and bought spacers and longer grade 8 bolts and re-installed and my cv's are perfectly straight. I will take a pic and post later.
  7. Welcome to the forum. We love cars here and you are in the right place. The guys here know there stuff too. See you on the site.
  8. I upgraded to XT front struts on the Rx too.
  9. I have monroes on my Rx all the way around. Good stock replacement and they do race with them.
  10. Wow, glad you are okay. Oh and by the way, I get made fun of all the time, but I always wear safety glasses. I have smith and wesson shooting glasses every where and I always wear them. It is only one time and you are "beeped", if you know what I mean. Seriously, I always wear safety glasses, all day while working as an electrician and in my shop. I am constantly bitching at my dad to wear them when he should.
  11. Ok then if it was running great 6,000 miles ago and then all of a sudden, and then you replace it and it doesn't start??? Come on dude. Go back and double check everything. Something isn't hooked up or something is wrong. I did a timing belt in my 2.2T and cranked and cranked and was like WTF. Then I went back through the procedure as if I hadn't done it and come to find out, on the crank, there is 2 different marks and I went off the front of the sprocket mark when once I read through it slowly realized that it was referring to the second mark on the back of the sprocket. Changed it and the car fired right off. I was smacking myself. So that is why I say double check. Use logic. It ran fine until the belt failure and now nothing. Double check. I wouldn't think you would have bent valves because it would still run but like crap. So, start from the beginning and double check.
  12. Miles on engine? Like GD stated, he has never seen one break. It is pretty basic. If you can follow instructions to make cup cakes you can follow instructions to make sure your car has the timing belt set up right and running right. Don't be afraid. Subaru made these cars as if a mechanic designed it. The more you know the more you will see that it is easy to know if your mechanic really knows what he is talking about or if he is taking you for a ride. I had a girl friend that I taught about Subaru's and she would stub the guy at the parts store.
  13. Was it running fine before the timing belt procedure?
  14. Ok, I pulled out the info. I have files on each Subaru I have and keep the receipts and notes. So, on the front of my 88 Rx, I purchased 1990 XT struts; Monroe part# 32271877, & 32271876. One is Rt and one Lt, but the invoice doesn't say, just check on RockAuto and make sure you have the Left and Right. Then I put the stock springs back on. Rear; 1998 Toyota 4Runner, 2.7, Monroe Strut, which is for the "front of the 4Runner", part # 801352. I purchased 2 of them. I also purchased 88 Rx Moog strut mounting hardware, Part# K90232, two of them, which I ended not using so you don't need those, and I also purchased 88 Rx Strut Bellow, part # 901076 (901-076@RD1), 2 of them. The only modification I had to do was, on the rear where the bottom of the strut goes into the saddle, I had to put a spacer washer on each side of the strut to remove side to side slack. But it fit perfect with the two washers. I reused my rubber pieces on top of the strut, they were still good. Here are some pics of the install. This is the rear. This is the front. It definitely stiffened it up and I always felt the Rx sat slightly lower in the rear from the front stock. But afterwards it has the rear sitting slightly higher than the front and it definitely gave her some more attitude. I will get a pic the whole car when I put the rims back on; painting them and center caps. Hope this helps.
  15. I have. I purchased the Front struts for the 4 Runner and then put new honda springs on them, and installed on rear of my Rx.
  16. Pics please, but list it in the for sale section too. People are always scanning that section.
  17. Why not? According to the manual it had two settings and I can't find where it said the "High" setting raised it but just put a little in at a time and don't go crazy but see if you can find what the High setting was and make a measurement before you start and see what happens. Plus you will be able to see if they are leaking.
  18. So could I do the same method for an ea82?
  19. Cool. Welcome to the site and the U.S. It's cool to see so many different people around the world knows that the Subaru's rock.
  20. Oh and by the way, take it apart and take the hoses down to the Subaru Dealer with you. They are idiots down there and I had to so them what to get. As a matter of fact, I showed the guy up so bad that there was another guy in a suite standing behind the counter watching the whole scene. He kept pulling up the wrong car and I recognized from the pics that it was the wrong car. Once I showed him the part # and zhowed them they actually did have the part, after being told a dozen times it wasn't there, the guy in the suite offered me a job. But I refused cause I make more as an electrician.
  21. Just dropped off the bumper at Linex today. $75 to Linex it. No brainer. Also got quoted $1000-1200 to Linex the entire Rx white. Coming soon.
