6 lug redrill wheel/tire combos
Naked Buell replied to crazyhorse001's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So some info you for guys; I mentioned welding up the hub and redrilling..... Well I talked to a machinist and D.O.T. say no welding on hubs. You can redrill if material is sufficient but no welding. So, it looks I will be doing the hub redrill to 6 lug. I was just trying to stay all Subaru so all my wheels and tire combos fit all my rigs. Now I will have a 6 lug black sheep. Ha Ha -
6 lug redrill wheel/tire combos
Naked Buell replied to crazyhorse001's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I thought the same thing Numbchux, that there wasn't enough material but the machinist said that it was plenty. As a matter of fact he had been doing what I was asking years ago to his rigs, changing out lug pattern and re-drilling. I thought you needed to weld up the old holes for strength and then drill the new hole in the area that you welded but he explained it wasn't necessary. There is enough material for the strength and for the purpose of keeping the wheel centered on the hub. I am really tempted to find some extra hubs and test this out because I would like to be able to swap to 5x100 without having to find all these other parts. Oh by the way ferp420, nice subaru. See that is what I am going for, maybe not 17's but it is nice to see that the subie even looks great with 17's. Nice job. -

I'm just wondering, why cant you knock out all the lugs of the 4 x140 and then see what lug is in the way of the 5x100 to fit and weld it up and machine it flat to be able to drill to the pattern you need? I asked a machinist and he said there is plenty of material to be strong and to fit properly. Then you don't have to change any of the running gear. -

Rx Coupe Wiring Question
Naked Buell replied to Naked Buell's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Got it. Thanks tombba; found the back up lights. So on your pass. side, rear 6 pin plug, on mine it was the green wire w/ two brown dots. -
Just about any GL with the carb that has been taken care always seems to run well. My stock Brat was soo reliable but I wanted more power. I love the older subies but they need the horsepower that the ej's put out stock and they would be perfect, other that ground clearance but that can be fixed too. I have a weber on an ea 81 that I have in my 88 Rx. 86 Brat motor with the weber and she runs really smooth and I just recently found a mystery vacuum leak that I fixed and she runs better than ever. I am still tweaked the carb settings but super easy to adjust and change, and this was my first carb tuning.

Weber DGEV fuel inlet thread size?
Naked Buell replied to beamsbox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you have some metric taps you could match it to know for sure. Otherwise, take it off and go to the parts store and match it. -

There are no lights. The whole back of the car was rusted, lights gone. So I only have the plugs. Get me. -
Rx Coupe Wiring Question
Naked Buell replied to Naked Buell's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

Getting ready to test fire, doing some double checks. On 16 pin B56 connector, terminal 10 says red/yellow and blue/red,goes to Ign sw,-P-N. Off my 16 pin conn, it jumps up a wire size, still red/yellow with the end having a female spade connector. Does that go to the starter? Plus what do I do with the blue/red wire??

86 Brat 5 Lug swap and EA D/R tranny
Naked Buell replied to merlin8019's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
That was my whole issue with doing the swap. I wanted to do it but I didn't like the fact that every time I need to replace an axle I would have to make it or have it made. So I decided to put the whole ej front clip onto my Brat. The ej engine just dropped in like it was supposed to and then you can run regular ej axles with the tranny met for it. Plus it makes the Brat AWD. I have an Sti 5 speed in an older outback clutch cable case. -

Legacy running gear under a loyale
Naked Buell replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Here is one of the brackets I made to allow for the Ej suspension to bolt right up. Once the Ej suspension is in, it widens the Brat by 40mm on each side. So I had some 5x100 adapters made that gave me just that. -

Legacy running gear under a loyale
Naked Buell replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
That is exactly what I did to my Brat. I have the whole legacy front suspension on the Brat and then the 2.2T dropped right in like she was supposed too. Plus, the Brat is lifted 4 inches too. -
Ej swap into Brat, Clutch Cable, Which one?
Naked Buell replied to Naked Buell's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Hey thanks for the advice. The ej bracket has an metal insert inside the stock bracket. Cut out the insert and it is the exact one on the ea's. Adjustment works great as well. Thx guys -
Ej swap into Brat, Clutch Cable, Which one?
Naked Buell replied to Naked Buell's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Ok, maybe it was a sport then. All I did was drop the guts from one tranny to another, keeping everything together as one. I am at my end of adjustment on cable and from what I am seeing and you saying, it is looking like I need to modify the pedal or the cable. Any thoughts?? -
Hey guys, great info here, I love checking everything out. Keep up the great info. So I have an 86 Brat with the 2.2T and I have a Sti 5 speed tranny. I put the Sti guts into an older, 98 outback case that still uses the cable clutch, as does the Brat. But I it isn't pulling the clutch far enough. I run out of pedal to floor in the Brat. So my question is, Which cable would work??? Anybody have a ej tranny??? What cable works??? Thanks guys

Ea 81 Carb Question
Naked Buell replied to Naked Buell's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cool. Thx -
Hey guys; thought I would ask, someone would know rather quickly. Is the carb for the ea81 (Hitachi) the same on the Ea82?? Looking for a replacement carb for my 85 Brat. Thx

Hey guys. I have a 07 impreza 2.5I that I just replaced the timing belt at 97,000 along with all the pulleys as well as the water pump. While I had the front of the engine off, I also had the seats out of the car and I unplugged the seats of course. I turned the key on to check my headlights and I am wondering if that is the reason why Now the cel is on and the crusie flashing. I am thinking it was when I turned the key on with the cat sensor and another plug along side it, unplugged. So of course now I am looking for a code reader but was also wondering which one? I have a Brat with a 2.2T and an Rx with the 2.2. So what code scanner would work for the OBDI, as well as OBDII? Thanks guys for the help and your time. I appreciate the advice.
