  1. R you serious? That is not what I wanted to hear. I have not put the spacer on yet, as it looks as if I will need to get longer studs for the carb. I tore the whole thing apart, checked and rechecked the float level before only to have it do the same thing. I have put the pressure regulator on it, it did nothing, I have the stock brat fuel pump on it, not sure what you mean for the fuel return. I have the stock fuel filter set up where it can bleed off what it doesn't use. It just isn't right, if you know what I mean. I did buy it from Redline Weber for the Subaru, 32/36 DGAV. I am really disappointed with it. I regret changing it from the Hitachi. It ran so smooth with the Hitachi. I listened to everyone else say they are crap and changed it, and it has been a struggle ever since. I would love to see some pics of what you did. I really appreciate the info. Let's keep this conversation going. Tell me your numbers for the tubes and jets please and I will compare.
  2. I would try heating the area, either with running the engine and watching the temp on car, or with a propane or mapp torch, but before you do that, is there enough material to do a small pilot hole in plastic and then slightly bigger to the point where you can either unscrew it out or carefully break it out and put new one in.
  3. Wow. That is nice. I like it. That is what I would of done if I had one.
  4. Nice score dude. I have an 85, but I have updated her all the way around. If she is running good, drive her as long as you can and start saving and acquiring Ej stuff to swap over. More parts and more power, better driving, in my opinion. I have a whole front clip, "legacy struts and engine mount" with a 4" lift on my Brat. I have the 2.2T in mine. Close to firing her off. I took the original brat motor and transferred her into my 88 Rx. I have always like how reliable the ea-81 is, bummer you can't get engine parts for her anymore. No more oil pumps. So drive her until she quits, or change to the ea-82, or better an Ej engine. They only lack power and ground clearance.
  5. Yes it did have the float adjusted. That was the first thing I thought of. Everything seemed fine, other than, with the car off, you could see the fuel still dripping into the carb, which, after investigating, found that it was vapor locking. I just got the phenolic spacer, will let everyone know how it turns out.
  6. Well that is figuring out the time and cost like you said to be affordable. What is the biggest cost? I would bet some of us on here would be investors for the project. What are some of the expenses? I don't even know what a good 3D printer would cost. I think you have something here Dave. Think of all the things we could make that you can't get anymore. Well, like you said, start small first and once it shows promise, a bank or other business investors would see it would be profitable. I didn't think I would do well with my business and it has been better than I expected, being an Electrical contractor. But with the small stuff, think of the parts first that everyone needs that you could make a lot of and then you could scheduled bulk orders, paid for in advance. That is what I worried about with my customers and I have them pay me in advance of half of my estimates, so if anything, I'm only out my time, not money out of pocket. And customers can't throw the money at me fast enough. Just remember, supply and demand, you can do something that I can't do, as well as others. It is the same with Scott in Bellingham. You pay first and then he fills the order. It would be a good business and something that people would be sending you molds to make left and right. Save to a file and print away. Just my 2 cents.
  7. Hey guys, I'm sure one of you know this just by reading. I think I am remembering right but not sure. The two up by the wiper motor is " I think", one supply-big one, smaller one evap?, and the other down by the steering shaft was the return? Is that right? Any help? Thx guys.
  8. Yep, I have changed the fuel pump. It has been a bit since I have been able to work on it and trying to remember. I hate getting pulled off your project. Thx for the info. I'll see if I can find the brat lines in my old Hayes.
  9. Hey guys. I am sure someone knows this right off hand. I have a 2.2T that is in a 85 Brat. Can someone help me with the engine bay fuel lines hook up. I have two lines at the corner by the wiper motor for the brat, one big and one smaller and then one down by the steering shaft. I have three on the engine. Two big and one small. I don't have a clue what is what. My manuals suck. Pics r very helpful. Thx guys.
  10. Nice find. 94? Wow. In the states we only got to 87 before they quit making them. And yes, my 84 GL wagon was the exact same thing to my 85 Brat. From the pics it looks exactly the same. To be sure I would check with a 94 GL wagon and compare and see. I have a 85 Brat with a 2.2T. I am almost ready to fire her off. That thing is going to be sick. You might want to think about strengthening the frame to compensate for twisting under load.
  11. Wow. Nice work dude. I have been moding mine for sometime as well. I have a 2.2T in my Brat. Haven't fired it off yet but have been foaming at the mouth her for years. I love the fender flares. I might have to do that to mine. Being you are racing it, you might want to think about Line-X ing the whole car. I did it to my Rx. White of course. I have some pics online here of it. People are always wanting to touch it. We have a lot of dirt roads where I am at and lots of logging trucks. Window chips and stuff. Didn't want to spend all this money on paint to have it chipped. Love the build. Wish I lived close by to learn some fab work from you. Looks great. Keep it up. Joe.
  12. Wow. Didn't even think of that; and I'm an electrician by trade. I will try that and lubing them. Thx
  13. It has been a while since I have been on, what an awesome idea about the trim parts. 3D printing. Wow. This is great. I'm definitely following this. I would be a sure customers if this happens in the future. Dave T, you said you hadn't thought to this as a business; you should. Supply and demand brother. You could do other vehicles not just Subies. Just trying to plant a seed. If I knew how to do it, I would be all over that. Thanks for the service Dave T.
  14. Hey everyone. So I have been dealing with this Weber problem for some time. I have an 88 Rx that of course the Ea82T is junk and I got rid of it. I put a completely rebuilt Ea-81 into just for the reliability of having it run like all the Ea-81's. But with the Weber, every time I shut her off for more than say 10-15 minutes, she is hard to start and you have to be precise with your foot and the gas to get her to start. Once started she is fine. Well, I found some info online today that I wanted to share. One guy I found, FINALLY, had the same issues I was having, yet it was on a Mazda truck that had the weber. He would drive 5 miles down the road to the parts store and if he was in the store for more that 10-15 minutes, it was hard to start. Well, he found out, while experimenting, that the intake was getting so hot that it was transferring to the carb and atomizing the fuel while the car was off, and basically flooding it. They make a spacer made out of Phenolic/ Bakelite that is like $30 with the shipping that keeps the carb cooler. It fixed his problem and he even gained a little from having more space to atomize the fuel before ignition. Before he said he couldn't touch the carb it was so hot, but now, it keeps it way cooler, to even touch after a long drive. So I ordered one today. I wanted to share with you guys. I have been dealing with this for some time. I hope this fixes my problem. I will post what comes of it.
  15. Is there a part number for the o-rings you guys are mentioning?? After you said "air" it makes sense.
  16. Hey guys. Noticed on my wife's 07 impreza that it sounds like I have a Ford power steering pump on the Subie. I got the car with 24,000 miles and it is now at 145,000. Is it time to replace it??
  17. No I'm talking about how SLOW they are. When its rainy normally it seems I need them on high. But maybe you are right. I need to take them apart and lube the things like crazy.
  18. No I'm talking about the motors in the older GL's. The Ea82's are better, way better than the Ea81's. I want upgrades for the ea81 wiper motors; not the wipers themselves.
  19. Hey guys, like everyone who has an "EA" knows that the whole wiper motor situation just plain "sucks". Does anyone know how to improve them? I was thinking of stealing one off an Ej and somehow make it work. Any thoughts or ideas?
