  1. Mine drives me mad. It isn't like there is all these vacuum lines or something. It is pretty basically. My ea81 has maybe 7000 miles on her and she drives great other than she idles high and lacks the real power that all want in an Ea.
  2. As much as you want to rebuild the ea81, speaking from experience, I am doing the ej swap just for what you are searching for. More power plus you get fuel injection and the parts are way easier to get. My 2 cents.
  3. It sounds like the carb to me. I have the weber also and she idles high, even with the idle screw backed all the way out. I think that is has has to be the carb. My Brat ran like a swiss watch. Then I had problems found out the diaphram in the dist. went bad. Replace it and upgraded to the Weber and she has never ran like she did. Still runs awesome when your foot is set, but even with a fresh built ea81, she still doesn't run as smooth as she has before. Just my 2 cents. I would think it was the carb but you said you rebuilt the carb. I did the same with mine but I keep thinking it is a carb problem for me or I have a vacuum leak.
  4. Man that is a killer front bumper on that Brumby. How about some more pics of your brat Knucklehead. That is a cool name.
  5. Ok, park switch taken care of. B56-9 is AC switch not cut off relay. That is F47-22. Just leave both unhooked?
  6. Cool. Thanks Gloyale. I will have those taken care this morning. Will ask more of course to be sure.
  7. Okay guys connecting the ecu one wire at a time and have some questions. On Plug F47-22, it is main fan control. Where do I connect this one? On Plug B58-9, which is the park switch, do I just ground it? On Plug B56-9, A.C. switch. Air conditioning switch. My Brat doesn't have air. What to do? On Plug B56-16, tach. Can I just hit the stock ea wire that was on the coil? Thanks for the help.
  8. I love the pics. I like to see what others have done for the Brat builds. I am do the wiring right now on my Brat. 2.2T with the Sti. 5 speed. I am just now tying in the dash gauges and still have to re-map my ecu. I upgraded my turbo to a td04 and top mount intercooler, so I found out I needed the yellow top injectors which would then require re-map. Its getting their. Nice job.
  9. So I have an Sti. 5 speed in an older outback cable clutch housing. I have two electrical plugs coming off the tranny. One is reverse of course, but what is the other??? Center Diff lock?
  10. I agree, if bad replace with new, fairly inexpensive and brakes are important like good tires. I thought turning would be ok on my truck but you are taking away mass that is used for the cooling process.
  11. Ok guys, question for the ones running the ea81. I have an 85 Brat that I am putting in the Ej 2.2T. I have the ej engne in and am working on the wiring. I want to have the ea oil pressure gauge working. I know I have to put in the ea sender into the ej. My question is for the ones that can just look at their cars would be easy. I have the stock ea wiring still in the Brat. I want to know which plug and which wire is the oil pressure gauge from the engine bay that I can just splice into. Thx guys.
  12. Hey thanks. Got it. I will check my interior wiring and see if I can find them. But now that you say oil pressure light I have an idea where to look. I will post what I find as well for others too. So this is what i found, thanks to Gloyale, Pin #9- Oil Pressure Light Pin #10- Temp Gauge Thermometer. So, next question, What do I do with them on the Brat? The Brat has the oil pressure gauge and what about the temp gauge thermometer? I took the stock Brat temp sensor and drilled and tapped it into the intake so I would have an accurate reading. Do I not need these???
  13. So I have a 93 2.2T engine and at the Ej engine you have the three main plugs for the engine. On the 12 Pin Square plug, F26 Plug according to the schematic, pin 9 is a "green with white stripe", and pin 10 is a "white with a green stripe". I can't find them on my drawings. I'm wiring in the ej harness for my 85 Brat and am stuck. Any out there at have some better drawings, what do those wires go to?????
  14. I used a 3/4 inch rigid pipe and it slid right over the original shaft that I had cut. Once I had it where I wanted it, tacked it with the welder, and then took it off and welded it up nice and then installed. Worked great and is stronger than stock.
  15. So I took a gen 1 roll bar and had to scrap the brat but kept the roll bar and custom fit it to sit in my gen 2 Brat. And I made it to be able to remove easily if needed. But in all honestly, I would just build what you want to fit
  16. www.sjrlifts.com, they make everything you need. Pretty easy like the guys said. Just spacers.
  17. Like mentioned before, I did install a stereo maxi-blade fuse and put in an 80 amp. It also came with a 40 amp as well. So I understand what you are saying. The fuse should never reach that. I also checked all my fuses inside before connecting the battery and it did blow the ignition 15 amp fuse, which explains why the wife said the car just shut off. So I guess I will just keep the 80 amp in. I did eliminate the plug that wasn't being used that caused the whole headache so I should be good. I will post some pics later. Thanks guys.
  18. Hey good idea. I am an electrician by trade and it just seems too much. I will do your idea and post what I find. Thanks Subaru Scott.
  19. So I swapped it out to a maxi- fuse big blade. But I can't see it having an 80 amp fuse on 10 gauge wire. I am thinking it would be better to have a lower fuse to pop before the current gets so high. Look at the feeder wire from the battery. It isn't that big, a 10 gauge as well. Maybe I am not seeing things correctly. Even if my alternator is 55 amps, how can I have a fuse that is 80 amp???
  20. yep it should. Most never get that low to ever find out. My friends dad ran his completely empty just to test everything. That is why I know it comes on at 2 gallons left. So if my Brat or Gl wagon gets 30 mpg, I decided to say for safety it gets 25 mpg, when the light comes on, I have 50 miles before I'm dead in the water. That is of course driving like grandma.
  21. How do you know it doesn't work? Have you actually ran completely out of fuel? They come on with about 2 gallons left.
  22. Hey thanks guys. I appreciate all the info and comments.
