  1. I am not sure but are those numbers amperage? If I change them to blade fuses do they make a blade fuse that low?
  2. Hey guys. I have the 88 Rx and someone other than myself had replaced one of my fusible links with just a piece of wire and guess what? Yep, a plug that wasn't being used touched the tranny while driving and smoked the link and left the lady stranded. So I brought it home and repaired everything but I wanted to changed the fusible links with blade fuses and was wanting confirmation on the amp rating of the links. So any of you guys with the ea82, could you look at your fusible links and tell me the colors from closest to driver to the front of the car? The one that smoked I am trying to find out what size so I can replace. Mine go, fried one, green, red, green. Can I get a confirmation from any of you guys on the ratings of the fuses? Thx for your time too.
  3. Hey guys. So 130,000 miles on the 2.5i. Runs great but when the ac pump engages you can feel the ac clutch is dragging enough to feel it when you are driving and you can hear a "chirp". So I figured the bearings are probably getting worn out. So I have a new ac pump and and the oil and refrigerant to recharge. Can I get some advice here about disconnecting the lines and then recharging. I can't seem to find the video on utube. thx
  4. Some use the pitch stop and some don't. I used mine when I put the 2.2T in my Brat. You want it in there in my opinion to help stabilize the engine. If Subaru designed it to be there, it should.
  5. I have a better option; go to a sheetmetal duct place and find a guy that does there fabing and tell him what you what and I am sure, if they are good, they could make that in about 10-15 minutes. He would probably come and measure or if you drew something up, they can build it.
  6. Haven't seen or heard of it. Have to become good friends with a welder or start learning yourself. That is what I did. Also something to check is the gutter in front of the windshield that catches all the water, just below your wiper assemblies. Make sure you clean those out. They have a issues with stuff getting stuck down there and holding moisture and creaturing rust. Pull the spare tire out and the two metal pieces of the body mold together where the spare tire sits and you will be able to see if you have any rust.
  7. It is looking like you should look into this Scott. It would be cheaper to buy your adapters then to be on the hunt to find the parts to make it 5 lug. I say it is a great idea. I would rather have all Subie rims and tires at my place then having a whole set of tires and snow tires of 6 lug. Keep me posted.
  8. Wow, seriously? No one has any pics of the some rims on a Subie that is 6 lug that isn't huge? I saw with the "search button" that there are rims out there that have the same stock offset as the 13 inch rims. I was just looking forward to some pics.
  9. Does anybody know the offset of the stock 13 inch rims on the 88 Rx so that I can research to see if I could find something close? And from you guys that know, what is close and what is NOT going to work, so I don't buy the rims and then they don't work. Thx guys
  10. Hey guys. Now I have seen plenty of you guys on here with the bigger tires and rims for 4x4 applications but can I get some pics of you guys that have 6 lug and have done more of a performance look? I have an 88 Rx and I want to do more of a street racer look. I know Turbone has I think 17's on his but he also went 5 lug. I plan to do 6 lug, cheaper, and want to go 16 and tires that don't rub or you have to cut the car. So any pics and advice of what you have done and off set that I need would be great. Plus I like looking at the pics too.
  11. That is some good points Numbchux. I just put some Rancho shocks on my Brat and it has a 4 inch lift and it is fine. I have the 5 lug hubs from an Xt6 on the rear. My front has all Legacy Turbo front clip with the entire suspension. I was thinking of weighing the front of the Brat and then the rear and then making a ballast weight for the bed across the top of the tires to equal the difference. But it is true about performance. If I wanted more, I would get a newer Subie. But my Brat is going to be D.D. with some kick under the hood. Nothing crazy. Subaru has come a long ways since the 80's for technology and you are right, you don't want to push the older cars too much, otherwise you are basically rebuilding the whole car to handle your changes. Oh and hubs are $320 shipped from Aussie.
  12. I was talking with a guy who is a machinist and was wondering about the hubs. I sent dfoyl a pm and I would be interested to see what someone is charging for that. I bought new 5 lug hubs from Rock Auto but I must of snagged some of the remaining ones cause I can't seem to find them anywhere. But from a parts stand point, amk, I would lean towards newer parts and cars so easier to attain. There is enough info on here to see what others have done and use what you can and modify to your needs. It makes more sense when you get the rear diff up on the jack and you can see what you need. It may be easier than it seems. I know when I did my Brat it was. Great bunch of guys on here, so don't be afraid to ask questions. I get answers all the time.
  13. But that is the whole problem. You can't find the hubs to do that. How much did dfoyl have to pay to get the custom hubs? Because it seems that is what has to happen because you can't buy them new and you have to be looking for the cars that have those hubs, xt6's, and they are hard to find too.
  14. My Brat is 5 lug. I grabbed some rear XT6 hubs bran new when you could get them and they bolt right on. Basically, you just have to get under there and start seeing what you have to do to use the newer stuff you have. It isn't as hard as some people make it out to be. I would strip all the old stuff out of the way and then get the rear diff on a jack and put her up there and start looking to see what it needs and start making it. Everybody was telling me things wouldn't fit on my Brat and it did and I made it work. Just don't be afraid, just take your time and do it right and make it strong. Basically just mimic what it came out of and then modify the Brat to fit that.
  15. If you have all the parts that go with the engine and trans., then I would just do a custom fit job. You will have to get the driveline cut down to size but at least you know everything is matched together. I had a custom driveline made for my Brat, it was $135. I went to the shop and the guy showed me where to measure from and I did twice to make sure I had the same measurement once everything was in place and the driveline fit perfect.
  16. What I did on my Brat was kept the original diff but changed it out with a LSD from an Rx, plus it keeps the stock axles and then you don't have to make one every time you need one.
  17. It is great to hear from you. Honestly, I was worried. It is so cool to see the pic of all the people hear that sent you messages looking for you. Is it not nice to know that so many care even though we have not met personally. I myself moved from a big city to the mountains and love the change from the busy city. I hope it is a good thing for you and your family. You are a man of many talents, I am sure you will find something else to do than a lawyer. My Rx is in the shop getting Line-X ed. The whole car, white. It is a very durable bedliner like product. I will post a pic when I get her back. I did the toyota front struts on the rear with the honda springs. I look forward to sharing the progress with you and others. You can see it on the What have you done to your Subie lately, towards the end, a page from current post. Glad you and your family are okay.
  18. Hey I did a 4 inch lift and I have Rancho shocks in the rear of my Brat. Plus the 4 inch lift makes the Brat look perfect.
  19. What I did on my Brat was I found a 84 coupe that was turbo and took the whole assembly and it just bolted on. You are better off trying to find a whole car that has everything otherwise it will be a treasure hunt, if you know what I mean. I also changed my steering wheel over to a Grant on both my Brat and my Rx.
  20. Welcome new member. It is a great place to learn and get advice from us all that have banged our heads against the wall finding out what to do. Great bunch of Subie Lovers.
  21. My friend in high school had one and that is how I feel in love with the Subaru's. Of course, my first one was a 84 GL wagon. My friend had it until he hit a telephone with and killed it. It will be a cool build. Any wagon or making it a 5 speed would be cool too. Plus, it would be easier to find a 5 speed.
  22. That is exactly what is sounds like. On the radio there is a wire that has power all the time. And if that is not connected or it is connected visually but it is a bad connection, then every time you turn on the car, the radio acts as if it is getting power for the first time. Is this a bran new rig? If not, you could probably take it to any car stereo company and have them check it out. They would know exactly what to look for and if it is hooked up right, it may be the unit. So go somewhere where they install the Sirus system.
