  1. I have been through my entire cooling system and have come to the conclusion that the problem is indeed the head gaskets . (thank you for all the guidance to get me to that conclusion) I plan on starting the project tomorrow morning . . . . hoping it isn't more than I can handle . My question is, are Felpro gaskets a good replacement part , or much like the t'stat do I need to go OEM here also ? What brand of gaskets would the dealership sell me if I went there ? I plan on doing the complete overhaul while I'm at it , I figure that as long as I'm in there I might as well .
  2. thanks . yeah , i had the t'stat in already and its in correctly , i was just pondering the wiggler . i've wondered it before . like i said maybe i'm just stupid .
  3. Exactly what in the world is the "wiggler" on the thermostat for and does it matter what its location is when putting it in ?
  4. Hey yall. i just recently purchased a 97 legacy obw . love the car , hate the overheating issues , but am slowly getting them worked out . the car is an everyday driver now , but soon to be an off roader. hope to talk to you all sooner or later .:drunk:
  5. I checked EVERYTHING and replaced the thermostat (again) , the coolant temperature sensor , burped the rad , which purged large amounts of air and somewhere solved the problem . Thank you for your help !
  6. Is it at all possible to adjust the temp gauge on a 1997 Legacy Outback ? It has recently been brought to my attention that mine is wrong , showing the incorrect reading on the gauge , but I don't know how to adjust it , or even if it can be adjusted . Any insight on this ?
  7. It overheats under pretty much every condition . After 15 minutes of driving the gauge just jumps up to high . It can sit and idle for a long time and won't overheat , but when I start driving it does . Thanks for the heads up on the head gasket , I'll look into it . Thanks
  8. I've been going completely crazy trying to figure out what's wrong with the cooling system in my '97 Legacy Outback . It keeps overheating even though I've replaced the thermostat , checked all my hoses , coolant and fans . Everything seems to be in working order . Any ideas of what the problem may be ? I sure would appreciate any feed back you may have .
