  1. I've had to replace my front wheel bearing twice in the past 6 months. I now think the problem is a worn hub that is causing the bearing to fail (front wheel, passenger side) on a 2001 Legacy. I can't afford a new bearing and hub right now but a local scrap yard has a 2000 Outback that they will sell me the complete knuckle with bearing and hub for $25. Does anyone know if the knuckle from a 2000 Outback will fit on a 2001 Legacy. The reason I ask is that the brake caliper on the Outback is a dual piston where as the Legacy has a single piston. (I just want to be sure that the brake caliper from my Legacy will bolt onto the knucke from the Outback) Thanks
  2. I have a 97 Legacy (EJ22 engine) with a 5 speed manual transmission model number TY752VABAA . The transmission is bad. I have a replacement transmission from a 2000 Outback (EJ25 engine) with a transmission model of TY754VCACA . I found a site (http://www.gear hack.com) that lists specs for these transmissions. One spec that is different is something called F.D. My original trans has an F.D. of 3.900 and the replacement has an F.D. of 4.111. What is F.D. and will the replacement transmission from the Outback work in the Legacy? Thanks
  3. I had a similar problem. I had spark, I had fuel, and it would almost fire. If you still have your original engine, compare the crankshaft sprocket from it with the sprocket on the replacement engine. You may find that the timing tabs on it are different. This is also true for the left camshaft sprocket (you have to remove this one to see the difference). When I replaced both the crankshaft and camshaft sprokets from the original engine on the replacement engine, the problem was solved.
  4. I am trying to solve a problem where I have no pulse to the fuel injectors. A couple of people have said that my crankshaft position sensor may be bad. I have removed the bolt that holds it down, but it sure doesn't want to come out. Is there any trick to it, or do you have to break it apart to remove it. P.S. I have checked the resistance of the crankshaft position sensor and it checks out ok. Has anyone ever checked the output signal with an oscilliscope. If so, what should the signal look like? Thanks
  5. What can cause the fuel injectors to not receive a pulse when cranking the engine? I have good spark, and fuel pressure, but the fuel injectors are not firing. This problem is occurring in a 2001 Legacy EJ25 engine (EJ252AWAWL). The original engine had serious internal damage due to the previous owner driving low on oil (damaged crankshaft, one spun connecting rod bearing, and damaged rings and pistons. I found a replacement EJ25 from a 2003 (EJ251AXEWL). I am using the long block from the replacement with the original intake manifold and all electronics from the original. This is what I have checked so far: Fuel pressure – I don’t have a fuel pressure gauge, but after cranking the engine, and disconnecting the line between the filter and rail, I have pressure. There is also return flow to the tank. Camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. The resistance for these looks good (1.9K and 1.88K) Ignition coil and ignitor assembly primary and secondary resistance ok. Checked and cleaned all ground point connections. I don't think the problem is related to timing. If i open the throttle and inject a small puff on quick start, the engine will fire and run breifly. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
