It's been ten years since I did any strut work on my Subies... Can't remember if the strut clamps into or bolts to the knuckle. If it bolts on with two bolts then you take a die grinder to the bottom holes and oblong them horizontally. If it clamps into the knuckle the only option i could think of is to pray to the Subaru Gods that someone makes a camber kit. If you've got good fab skills, you could adapt a cam bolt set up to the lower control arm. I'm sure one of the guru's here knows a simple fix.

Actually, it is. It shares the same bore, stroke, and bearing size. It just has two add'l holes. (1.8/2=.9 1.8+.9=2.7) (though more closely related to EA82)
-
Just to clarify... What years/models of the EA82 have the lower range 4lo for better ratio w/ bigger tires? Just want to be sure as I have an opppertunity to purchse a set up.
-
I was told that the EA81 had a forged crank and rods by the guys at RAM. If this is the case, does anyone know if the same applies to the ER27 since it's a larger offspring

more compression via plaining the block?
skishop69 replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would be more worried about piston to deck clearance. Can we say 'bent rods' Granted this would be in the extreme, but with decking, less is better. -
Back to the laws of physics... LIQUIDS DO NOT COMPRESS:lol:
-
So I need to check the tags on both the donor vehicle and mine to match or make sure I get 3.9. Thank you.
-
My Brat is Gen II EA81. When I change to the EA82 5 spd d/r, do I need to swap diffs as well. I don't know what my ratio is, have been told EA82's are 3.9. What's the skinny?

Rule #1... DO NOT FLUSH the sytem with anything other than AC flush. Castrol makes it. Anything else will have adverse effects on the seals, hoses, O-rings and compressor. I'm with Dave. You've got a leak somewhere. However, it's not uncommon to get 'green funk oily foam' when you vent the system into the air (which is a big NO-NO by the way) The combination of the PAG oil and tracer dye pressurized by the 134A will do that. It's actually normal as long as by foam you don't mean cotton candy style foam. If you really want to flush, remove the compressor and drain the oil (overnite) then add the flush a little at a time using compressed air in between doses to one side of the open line and run a hose from the other line to a bucket to catch the waste. After the last batch, run compressed air through untill it comes out dry. You may want to pull the receiver/dryer and empty it as well. Refill with correct amount and type of oil and recharge. Make sure to block off or tape off your hoses while the compressor is off. It only takes a short time to ruin the dessicant in the dryer.

As many of you know, I'm toying with the idea of turbo charging an ER27 and dumping it in my Brat. I'm looking into the Megasquirt 2 and curious if anyone here has used it. $275 seems too good of a deal for a stand alone management system. All the write-ups are positive. Let's hear it!

ahhhhhhhhh! they wrecked it !!!!!

I've got an '88 XT6 2WD that I'm yanking the engine and related parafinalia (?) out of. The rest of it goes to... DUM, DUM, DUMMM...Subaru Hell. Let me know if either of you need anything. I'm in Puyallup, Wa. -

A shopping cart handle from any local grocery store will do. Also makes it easier to push during rare break downs. -
I can go have a look at it if he's still got it. PM me for my number. Ski

I'm going to be dropping th ER27 into a Brat and lifting it. Has anyone used thwe electric ps pump on other applications or can it be done? I'd really like ps with the bigger tires and I don't see any way to mount up a mech pump without serious fab work.

Options for more ponies on the ER27???
skishop69 replied to skishop69's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's going in a Brat so we're not looking for go fast, but HP and torque. I'm also starting with a fresh build. -

AHHHH!!! Too many Subiglyphics! EJ22??? Once you get out of EA and ER, I'm lost. Ask me a Chevy question, no prob. Ask me Subaru question, mostly you get dumb deer in the headlites. I've already got the ER27 so that's what I'll go with. I know GM ECMs (pre OBD2)are not happy when you start messing with cams. How much will the Sub ECU compensate for changes? -

'Generic' performance chips are basically crap (IMHO). If they're not vehicle system specific all they do is trick the ECU/ECM into thinking its either cold outside or fake low coolant temp forcing it to stay in open loop. Either way you're just adding fuel without much (or no) change in timing control. The gain is negligable and doesn't out way the possible long term negative effects on plugs, valves, O2 sensors and cats (not to mention crappy mpg) If I'm going to lose mpg, I'm at least going to make a significant power gain. Just my two cents. -

I know all about fuel and spark maps. I do custom building and programming of GM EFI. If you're able to adjust the fuel map, does this mean someone has hacked the ECU? If so, where do you find the software? If not, how would you make ajustments without using a piggyback? I had already planned on porting the heads myself. I also know first hand about too much timing. Last fall we put a hole through the #4 piston on my small block trying to go too hot on the spark curve. I would definitely like more info on the soobie fuel maps. -
H6 5spd d/r tranny swap
skishop69 replied to skishop69's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, I know I have to relocate the rad. I've looked and taken some measurements and with some fab I can drop it down and forward keeping my bed free. You did bring up some valid points. I was going to have cust cams ground. As far as the turbo issue on the bottom end... I've got a few friends who have the 22R turbo trucks and they really have no complaints. Granted they're not remotely the same bird and there are more gearing options for Toys. There are ways to relieve back pressure on the bottom end. I didn't know the CR was that high on the ER27, but I do know there have been 3 or 4 successful builds of this type and I'm still trying to track the owners for info. Yes, the fuel injection is going to be a pain in the a**. Again, more info required. With your points I am re-thinking. What would your recommendations be to sqeeze more ponies out of the ER27? I'll start a separate thread for that...... -

I'm going with the 4" lift. Sounds like wagon it is. -
H6 5spd d/r tranny swap
skishop69 replied to skishop69's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Apparently I'm snorting too much starting fluid at work... The tires I'll be going with will be 225/235 75R15. After looking back on that I had to go to the tire size calculator and run numbers. I'm sure this changes the opinion. BAD Ski, BAD Ski!!! Is the wagon tranny going to take 200HP? -
H6 5spd d/r tranny swap
skishop69 replied to skishop69's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Probably 70/30 on/off and I'll be running 245 or265 70R16s. -
Yeah, I figured I'd be splicing injector connectors. Any idea what the flow is on the 2.7l injectors? (ER27...Is that the H6 2.7?)
-
I was planning on having new cams ground for that reason. Thanks for the suggestion on the injectors. I was wondering about the difference in the EA82 turbo/ non-turbo injectors. If there was one and if it's worth the swap.
