  1. I guess on top of durability for the bigger engine, lift and bigger tires, I'm also wondering about the mpg difference from FWD to AWD. It sounds like the AWD with the diff is more or less a 60/40 power split until locked like the old full time Chevys. If the mpg is negligable, then it sounds like the lower ratio and LSD on the AWD is the way to go...If one can be located.
  2. 2.7l H6, and thanks for the advice checking the other site. Ski
  3. Did the RX have a part time version? Daily driver and wheeler it will be me thinks...
  4. Thanks. And yet another stupid question... LSD?:-\
  5. I'm fairly ignorant on the newer Subes. What year RX would have the d/r and is it a direct bolt on? Flywheel? If I go with the EA82 tranny I don't need the rear diff but if I go RX I have to have it do to the ratio change, Yes?
  6. It is the 2.7l. I kinda remember someone saying the direct bolt on was off an EA82 wagon but can't be sure... Hence the post!
  7. I've got my H6 and I've got my turbo, and I've got questions??? For the guys who have labored thru this I hope I can pick some info. I'm going to use the stock pistons and keep the boost down around 6psi. Is there and upgraded ECU or do I piggyback. Does someone have software to disassemble the Subaru BIN so I can do my own mapping? I've got the hardware for burning PROMS since I do a lot of GM EFI tuning. Should I go with bigger injectors? I'll be using a fuel pump control mod and a boost controller. Has anyone had any crank or rod probs with their H6 turbo set up? I know I've packed a lot in here, but the info would be priceless and HUGELY appreciated. Thanks, Ski
  8. I know I asked this before... but after several hours of burning my retinas on archives... Which 5spd d/r bolts to the H6 motor? I've got my H6 and my turbo for my Brat and I need the tranny to get this insanity rolling. (It's a Gen 2) I also remember someone saying that the donor flwheel would be the same as the H6. True? Thanks, Ski:headbang:
  9. Are the '87 GL's valve benders when the belt breaks? I can't remember. I've got someone that needs one fixed and want to give them correct info. Thanks, Ski
  10. I've seen a number of posts boasting that the trannies can take around 250 - 300hp. Whether that's true or not... We might just find out.
  11. The vortec is a 4.3l 90 degree v-6 built by Chevrolet and used in the Blazers and 'S' series trucks.
  12. If you didn't find a home for it, it can keep my Brat company here in Puyallup.
  13. I was just wondering if anyone makes an adapter to go from the 4.3 Vortec to the early '80s 5spd 4wd trans (from the EA82). I have a spare Vortec lying in the shop and got to thinking. I took measurements, and if I install the 6" lift, the motor will fit nicely. Although, I will have to relocate the radiator down and forward. I could fab the adapter myself, but it's nice to bolt and play instead of design, fab, break, re-design, etc....
  14. I've got an 85 Brat and I have to replace the speedo gear in the tranny. I' ve got it out and need help getting the transfer case off. The book I have is vague at best. I've got the t-case bolts off and the reverse spring and detent ball out but the case won't separate. It moves abut 3/16" then stops. If you want to mail me direct great. I'v got to run back to work and get the gear out of my toolbox so I'll be about an hour. Thanks guys!
  15. I was thinking in the glove box. If I fold it into eighths it should just fit. Seriously, I know I have to relocate it but haven't put much thought to where. There will either be grille mods or it will be placed in the bed (somewhere). 'Hey, there's always room for Jello.'
  16. Not bent at all. I got a great laugh at all the responses. No one was malicious. No more testing... Ski
  17. I'm aware the info is wrong. When I first enter a new site I like to 'explore' the attitude of the community. Since the previous post to mine contained the right info, I thought this would be a good test. It turns out you guys have a good sense of humor. I know it wrong when I typed it, since I did'nt know the answer until about a minute before that. Part of learning is risk... and I'm here to learn. FLAME ON 'I sling a little bullsh*t myself, but ocassionally I like to listen to a real pro... Please, continue on...'
  18. As with Northguy, I'm not a complete expert on this, but... The last year of the EA81 was '83 or '84. After that it was the EA82. All the EA81s had solid lifters. The EA82s had solid lifters and hydraulic. The 82s I believe, also came injected. If you want more power without a lot of hassel, just replace the EA81 with a carb'd EA82. Straight swap, no problems. If you like challenges and are good with wiring, replace with a 2.7 Xt-6 motor. Also bolts straight up to the 5 spd hi/lo gearbox, but requires many mods. Hope it helps. Ski
  19. I am going to be rebuilding a 2.7 and installing a turbo. Before possibly wasting time money (and maybe a good motor), I would like to know if anyone has done this. If so, what displacement turbo did you use, what was your boost setting, did you make any case or head mods (like installing threadserts), did you have to use bigger injectors, does anyone program new fuel maps for the PROMs or PCM, will it need one? Ok, too many questions.... I just don't want to waste my time. Thanks, Ski
  20. Howdy, Great site, first time here. I am going to be rebuilding an XT-6 motor to transplant into my Brat. I am having problems locating pistons, bearings, etc. With the mods that will be made to this motor, I would like it to be fresh when installed. Anyone have any lines on this stuff? Thanks, Ski
