  1. i will get a gen 1 fsm asap. currently i have htkysa and a chilton... i am familiar with ea series engines but its been a couple years since ive had an ohv model. as far as collecting more cars goes, i need to let a couple go first. My main goal for this thread is to find out what people have done to their gen1 roos. mine has been hacked somewhat but i have an extra harness and all kinds of other stuff. itll end up lifted im almost sure of it... but before then i need to absorb as much as i can from folks who have rocked these for decades. What have you done to your gen 1? i guess that should be this threads title
  2. I just spent the best 10,000 pennies of my life last weekend. Ive got a 78 BRAT w some spares and an ea81 dropped in. this wont be my build thread, but rather a thread for those new to the historic soobs. im looking for general knowledge, anecdotal help, modifications experience etc..... basically if your buddy/son/ etc got one of these what could you tell them.? Ive done some searching for wiring diagrams and have found none but those with dead links or pay to play. Lets see the knowledge drop..............
  3. nice 84! especially for over there.... I like the wind deflector on the topper. I have a 84 BRAT project as well...but its for sale now due to the 78 I picked up. I got one for ya, cheap.
  4. i recently aquired a set of said struts with coilovers installed and ea81 strut tops. they are modified to accept ea82 knuckles. umm... they are huge... i have a 4" lift in the garage with full on 4" xmember drop and it wont be able to soak those up. i have rears equally as big but have no idea what they came from. i got both of these from the same upstanding gentleman i bought my 78 BRAT from..
  5. every time my dad would fix up and prime one of his opels that would happen while driving to have it painted. hope your wife is well... im praying for the unibody. airbags pop?
  6. this guy is now for sale, sans motor........make offer
  7. nothing wrong with known good used, but I will personally vouch for mizpah, having used them several times and never hearing a single bad thing about him/them. except they never seem to have em in stock so you have to wait. plus, you can have them completely rebuilt for less than one new lifter
  8. short answer: pull harder. there are only two nuts and you got those already so all you have to do is fight the sticky black dum dum they use to seal the light to the body. its like chewing gum/tar. hth
  9. where is your airfilter? if its in an aircleaner on top of the motor, its carbed. if theres a filter in an airbox on the right fender and it says "fi" on top of the motor, its Single Point Fuel Injection. regardless of what motor is in there you need an 87 specific disty for it, as others have said, those are a weird year. if you have a hole for a set screw you might not have the right disty, i do not know this for 100 percent. finally, a new disty may be a future necessity for you...
  10. fuel pump relay is above the fusebox. there is a row of four round relays. one is the fp. i think its a blue connector but i havent been in there in awhile. relays rarely fail but it is possible. perhaps a wonky fusible link just realized i forgot to state the obvious.....fuel pump , bra
  11. done. what kind of soob do you have?
  12. thats for the flasher. and it works. heres the rundown as of last night: no corner or tailights or center dome. still have a battery drain. Everything else is currently operational. when I owned this car the running lights were on anytime the key was. after Skylar bought it there was a brief period where all of the lights were on regardless of key position. this however, has changed to the above circumstance.

  14. yes, that was a stupid question. you should have seen my first post(s)......welcome to usmb. use search often. read lots. and enjoy.
  15. well then, I guess we can close the thread. because you seem to have the answers. other than getting an oe t stat replace the radiator, dont just flush it.
  16. intake, thermostat, or throttle body gasket

Sam (my buddy) is busy, and my clutch is slipping pretty bad atm, pretty sure its due to the missing clip..... also I dont have a babysitter lined up till that afternoon yet.
  18. Ive done considerably well with my 2" and single range. I ve said, "if I dont make it up ill catch ya later" and made it so many times its funny. with that, I have yet to do any truly hardcore NWWO (youtube dude look it up, its awesome) type stuff. If youre going out to play in the mud, and are reasonably capable of tricky clutch play and learning the "ramming speed" characteristic required, you can wheel with a pushbutton 4wd. BUT.............this is coming from a guy who is, in very short order, swapping to a D/R5spd (its in my garage). the D/Rs came in GLs (same body, pre loyale)
