  1. After several snapped bolt I got the front bumper/underbar and front fenders off today. Especially fun was the part where one of the bumper bolts wasnt a captive nut, but instead a nut and washers. Examination reveals slight damage in the center of rad support. I went to town on the crumple zones for the fenders with a come along and a deadblow. I think its better? pics are a possibility in the future. also found intact foglight wiring and relay still hooked up. button is there too, same as my 86 gl wagon hmmm
  2. sorry, ill figure out a better way
  3. much thanks for yours and everyone elses good wishes. this will be a whole village effort for sure

  7. so I take it this would be a solid lifter unit?http://s1278.beta.photobucket.com/user/Subruise/media/130215_0021_zps88f6a910.jpg.html I didnt do much with the BRAT tonight, as I was distracted by my buddies freshly acquired 85/6? glwagon that he hijacked my thread with earlier.(08/85 with orange didgeridoo dash) I removed the valve cover again and snapped a pic. I put water in it and moved it out of the garage to make room, and then back again after we bled his brakes.
  8. ive got FSMs and a how to keep your subaru alive you can borrow if you treat em nice
  9. i had a ea82 that had a pencil eraser sized hole in a valve that acted like this and didnt make a racket. however, dropping a valve and burning one are two diff things. we'll get it figured out. maybe i can get a sitter for sunday and come give ya a hand..
  10. this is good news, it was a smidge low on oil and i was pretty sure that was the sound of lifters ticking lol. not loud but reminiscent of my ea82s. if there are any good threads/sites for people not as fluent with the ea81 platform/BRATs and their various fluctuations in design please feel free to post them here. from what i can tell its all original. RV
  11. ummmm how do i know if i have big valves, or hydro lifters etc...the last time(s) ive had ea81s i didnt know jack

  14. drive one back. all the bolts will still come off and youll be able to load it up with spare parts from the many JY soobs out here.
  15. its gonna be a (gulp) learning experience. ill be cutting my teeth on sheetmetal work on this one. itll eventually get painted white (i think). the only way ill let it go is for a hatchy 4x4.
  16. BTW... BIG thanks to Skylar for drivin my 'truck' home
  17. Isnt it funny when you buy a parts car with a supposed motor that wont turn over and you drive it home? From Aberdeen to Tacoma? and its a BRAT? Fate hath bestowed upon me my project. BEHOLD..
  18. looks as though it has a bad headlight relay, judging from the pic. thing looks awesome!
  19. well i did for my subaru what any subaru hopes for: i saved it. i got me a 84 BRAT today for 200bucks, sold as parts, but it drove 90 minutes home and the hgs are prolly not blown..... i drained the black oil!
  20. oh, ya i havent been taking the tie rod off as of late, just before. its a 12mm in the slot. i went to hoquiam today and bought and 85 brat(!) and it the loyale drove real nice. id still like to hook up one of these days and shoot the shop shizz tho
  21. Thanks for the replies folks, I think I would be able to use just a tape now that both wheels are in the same zip code. Ive botched this a couple times over the years and this made it impossible to use one tire to "center" the other. I had to do one side at a time in order to avoid dying a horrible, stupidity related death, or worse, killing someone. At the very least Im glad this thread is here now because I had a difficult time finding reliable, useful, practical methods. And now there are several. Cheers, RV
