  1. DO resurface heads. i dont think ive ever seen an engine that worked if that wasnt done after the heads were removed. Que up the contradictory responses...
  2. as a matter of fact. you can use a carbed block w turbo gear and be ok. an spfi block will have a higher compression number due to piston height. many people have pulled this off. ask MilesFox. its possible with basic machining intelligence. all the bosses are there for you to drill, tap, and convert. furthermore, i have NA ea82 heads w different markings.........
  3. Hi Minty, it screws in, hopefully you havent boogered the threads. There are tools you can rent or carefully use channel locks. welcome to the board
  4. you can make a diy 2" kit without dropping xmembers. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/91636-markus56-getting-lifted/ here ya go
  5. have you pulled or checked the governor gear for apple core yet? it lives under the dome on the trans. you know this im sure but future searchers might not
  6. hmmm fuses looked good and from what i could tell the grounds were good. has trailer wiring too but it looks normal. maybe ill swap the tail light harnesses out. Thanks for the replys guys
  7. So have to mend a car that the dash lights and tail lights quit working on. Facts: Head lights and brights work, brake lights work. Tail lights only work in "p" position. Dash Lights never work...they used to though. I have swapped relays around and checked what grounds I found. I also swapped a headlight switch...no dice.
  8. turbo cars and autos were 3.7. your dual range will be the same as your pushbutton. there is a tag on the rear diff you can double check. you should have a 3.9
  9. i got you covered. I have a box full. take what you need
  10. hit up a pick n pull and hope for good ones. fortunately they will fit in your pocket.
  11. black spring=exhaust. silver spring=intake.
  12. get lifters from www.mizpahprecision.com/ great work, reasonable price.
  13. spend some time reading. its going to take awhile to absorb the needed info. you are far better off sticking in another ea82 than converting. ea82s are fine, just not for race cars. Theyre cheap, pretty common, forgiving, and reliable. If you go the route Im suggesting youll need to retain your distributor, they are funky in 87 and other ones dont work without modification.
  14. no sweat. the EA82 is a great engine for what it is meant for. but this thread I shall hijack no more. I think Subaru Adventures is awesome, keep it up
  15. Nice ride, but the only thing that rivals an ej22s reliability IS the ea81. perhaps this is a typo?
  16. the hill holder uses one front and one rear brake. if you look on the frame rail below your master cylinder youll see the contraption. It operates via a ball that rolls backward and blocks the flow until you let the clutch pedal back up (after putting clutch pedal in and stepping on the brake pedal and releasing it). maybe tap it a few times with a ball peen hammer. It can also be eliminated from the brake fluid food chain if necessary. Also, the front pistons screw in, not compress w a C clamp. some rear (drum) brakes auto adjust and some adjust via the slave cylinder near the brake line. Drum brakes are dumb, and sometimes people have difficulty reassembling correctly if not familiar. the rear drums on these does about 10-15% of the braking
  17. sorry i took so long. I keep tellin ya to move out here to the promised land....
  18. nope, not available, and they always fail. that box shuts off the fuel in the event of a rollover (or accident?). you can jumper the connector that goes to it but you then lose the safety feature.
  19. im sure its pretty straightforward. funny how words can muddy the water thanks again
  20. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Subaru-OEM-Head-Gasket-Pair-EJ22-99-01-Impreza-99-Legacy-NEW-NR-/230801303335?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35bcd46727&vxp=mtr I read further, and here is the head gasket set needed to put sohc 2.5 heads on a 2.2 block. If I can machine my way out of needing this option I will be doing that instead, but heres a resolution to at least one question Subaru Part Number: GSKT-CYL HEAD 11044AA542
