  1. this is where I got my most recent notion of what to do with this thing. Could you load a pic or two of your setup? Id hate to tear down a perfectly good ej22 only to drop its compression, to say nothing of the extra money and time involved. Besides, who knows what shape the 2.5 heads are in...
  2. mk, one more question before this goes into action: which head gaskets do I use? I read in another thread that a member had used ej22t composite (i.e. not mls) gaskets and I didnt see a part number. If I can get that number I can get this thing into daily mode with no CEL
  3. I have a pump ill sell you for super cheap then..... No hard feelings here, trust me. We are an enthusiastic crowd, and this enthusiasm compels us to want to help other soobs....i mean soob owners pardon my prejudice. Ive seen so many "chevy guys" become irate with the simplicity of our rigs its comical.
  4. you re-threaded a stripped bracket. the timing has slipped. a 1990 legacy is better in almost any way than a chevy of equal value. do your homework and fix that sucker. they will start w jumped time, and doubly so w starting fluid. You gotta think subaru and not bow tie when working on or diagnosing these, two different and awesome things. if you were closer id come buy it, fix it in two hours, and drive it away
  5. ive got a computer..but they only work in turbo models
  6. this is if I install the entire ej22 and not just the shortblock, right?
  7. incorrect. it is a 3cyl suzuki engine licensed to subaru, and subaru designed their own head for it....ergo it IS a subaru motor. justys are awesome, dont knock it til you try it/ or actually research it/ work on it. Justys around here sell for 1000 with those same issues. 40+mpg anyone??? ps: subaru pulls support for anything it no longer produces....just like everybody. OP: your 3 door needs new rear suspension parts as they are bent beyond repair. Monetarily, yes its totaled. those are "totaled" if even a fender is bent due to what their worth in insurance companies eyes and the cost to fix that. Itll drive, but its boned. on the hatchy....not compatable. its also a basket case, but its worth the 500....if you can fix it yourself. both of those cars are good for the price however, neither is getting you to work the next day/week. choose wisely. of the two Id rather have the hatchy, but for ease of fixing....go with the justy.
  8. what do you reckon the engine runs like with the presumed drop in compression? either way, good point. also, if i did this can i use the ej25 intake...since the heads are already there?
  9. well, im glad i waited. I wish id waited to purchase engine......anybody need a 97 ej22 w clutch and xmember? I need a different one lol
  10. ....Trade you my hatchy...as seen at wcss 16 next to you in the mudpit all day
  11. I have, in my driveway, a 99 forester S auto with the glittery oil. Ive already pulled the motor, and purchased a nice little 97 ej22 from a turbo swap project. As I said the Forester is an auto, but I haven't mentioned that the new engine is from a manual car and has an egr block off plate installed. Are the intakes interchangeable? I dont think they are but this is my first time hands-on and im not tearing things down any farther than i have to. Ive read a few threads and they said to swap throttle bodies/drivers side cam sprocket/crank sprocket. I believe the wiring needs to come over as well as splicing or modifying injector plugs. Id like some advice as to how its been done, what not to do, and how to keep cold idle and no CEL if possible. thanks as always
  12. i snapped a clutch cable once....didnt slow me down at all. i just couldnt back up safely. i keep the original tool kit that came in my soob, and stuffed it with some extra tools and gear (a relay, fuses/links, 12mm deep socket etc) makes a neat little package
  13. put clutch in when bleeding an old soob......because hillholder
  14. 89? it has timing belt as opposed to push rods then...not so similar a swap as the brat. but the general theory involved will give you the idea
  15. MOAR! and can we have a vid showing off your rig?
  16. a better idea would be to pay someone to make you sime billet adapters and dual weber that sucka. who needs ecus then youve got a weber on each head?
  17. just wondering............who said ej it? all i said was two TBs wont getcha to shakeys pizza
  18. by the time they got around to "fixing" the ea...they made the EJ. the heads are going to hold up the flow long before you see benefits from two TBs
  19. the added compression would help in my opinion, also in my opinion i think the smaller compression number is further hampered by your larger wheels. even with a regular stock fi motor youre still going to loose top end due to its lack of sufficient power to push those wheels/tires
  20. FI blocks are 9.0 to 1 compression, whilst the carbys are 8.5. other than that....look at mileage and neglect to choose a block
