  1. well it turns out I dont actually have access to the motor that i thought i did:mad: I would like to get my loyale con queso running right again asap for cheapness. Would new heads fix the problem? Do you have to change both sides or can i just replace the noisy one? passenger side is quiet and smooth. Thanx, Rob
  2. thats cool, sounds like it might work. were there any other mishaps with the swap(tranny/starter etc)? What about wiring?
  3. you also might want to check for shorts and make sure your alt. connections are tight.
  4. can i just replace the heads or is the cost close enough to a used motor?
  5. again thanx to everyone who helped me with my timing belt slip, which is great now btw. my 91 loyale spfi is definately losin it and I dont want this to happen again. I dont have the money/time to EJ it but I do have access to a trusty ea 81 that ive personally had in two cars. How difficult would it be to EA81 it? and with a weber how would the power compare to my EA82? I searched and found that the water jackets on EA81 are better than mine. Which way would y'all go on this one???
  6. usually when a EA82 motor has "headgasket issues" it means its been overheated and the heads are warped. when this happens new headgaskets dont always compensate for the defects. I had a ea81 wagon that drove for 7 years with that problem..............you just had to put water in it every 20 mins and leave the heat on full blast:lol:
  7. Thanx for all the advice you guys, I set the timing(drivers side was off a tooth) and tada no more pinging:banana:. i took the belt off of the ac compressor I dont use while I was under there and will soon remove the whole thing. I did noticec that the motor is a bit noisier than it was before(see air compressor type sound) on that side of the motor now. What'd I do wrong? UBER THANX TO EVERYBODY USMB FO LIFE!!!!!!! Rob
  8. it was doing it pre-disty swap, and was actually why I swapped them. Ill check the timing belts when i get home. Thanx folks Rob
  9. i havent set the timing since i put the new belts/pulleys on about 5 months ago. would it go out that fast?
  10. typically I run midgrade thru it, although premium and regular get put in depending on cashflow. seafoam sounds good...... I didnt gap the spark plugs, I just left them they way they came out of the box. Would that be anything? Thanx ppl Rob
  11. i drive a 91 ea82 spfi wagon. When Im driving and go uphill or put the motor under a load(shortshifting), it makes this load clicking, almost a rattle. I suspect the disty....... Replaced .timing belts .plugs/wires .cap/rotor/disty(used, thanx Bratman). .air filter I inspected and replaced the disty tonight , I made sure everything was lined up perfect, however i didnt pull the tb covers as I replaced the belts in feb this year. I took the censoroff the airbox and it was clean as was its home. my old one had a bunch of what look like arc marks along the inside rim. :note: When I replaced the rotor I made dropped the screw into the hole in the x-member and my magnet cant reach:mad: it was clicking before i used the other screw I had that "fit" IDEAS? im out of them.....
  12. my first car was an 81 hard top glf, same color, with factory mags. sweet car man Rob
  13. this is probably a duh, but you do have the same size tires/psi right?
  14. that counts as an ea81...................wish we had wing mirrors:mad: Rob
  15. hello from puyallup..........91 loyale, sweet mags
  16. hey i noticed you had orig. got the car with shadow mags, you didnt by chance have any center caps for those did you? thanx rob
  17. sounds like plan b is in order: ahem, who needs a digidash?
  18. my last trip to the boneyard netted me a digital dash and trip computer out of an 85 gl dr. and if someone hurrys up and buys my saturn ill get the tranny too. upon tearing my dash apart I became abbruptly aware that the wiring is NOT plug and play. i couldnt find another thread, and i did look. i could use some help, or if its too hard or impossible, wanna buy it?
  19. did i say legacy? i meant forrester to loyale. as lifts are cheap i know i should do it right but raising a subaru and a daughter is tough on 10 bucks an hour. so no go on the rumors then? my last trip to the junkyard revealed that the bolts will fit in to the towers on the loyale. custom halfshafts to go to 5 lug?:-\
  20. so here we go, i, like so many others desire to lift my loyale cheaply and with scrapyard parts, ive heard rumors that forrester struts bolt right in. while this appears to be true the spindles are different. a 5-lug conv. may be in order. any help would be sweet
