  2. Nick, the manifold bolts may need tightened or go get some intake gaskets and drive over here. most likely a vac leak though. start spraying carb cleaner at different spots. youll find it
  3. i suggest putting in a 5 speed. its a project, but worth it. do your homework on the ej swap, and maybe put an ej trans in too. this will be very involved

  10. its possible but id be surprised if a ea71 would make 120hp, even forced. anything is possible with adaptor kits or custom bellhousings. If youre asking if the stock trans will hold it, for awhile, if youre nice. I know guys with ej engines running gen 2 4speeds still
  11. run 12 volts to the fan with your favorite two pieces of wire from the battery to the fan side of the connector
  12. .......................i do have an ea82t running 15psi on a crate in my garage, complete w dash, and harness tmic, 4" one piece exhaust etc. built at a local race shop. Even though I say this, its alot of work.....also suuuuper loud, so not really a sleeper
  13. first things first, welcome! second, PICS! we love pics as for your gutlessness, you are on the right track with the tune up. 87 is a fuzzy year, is yours FI or carby? clogged cat will rob power on both but theres other info specific to both. since you mentioned the "stovepipe" ill assume its a carbed engine. Rebuild, or replace, or at the very least clean out that carb. lots of folks go for a weber 36/32 variant as a very effective upgrade. That pipe is there to draw air warmed by the exhaust to the intake for cold starts...kinda warms it up faster. It doesnt actually carry any exhaust gasses. not a big deal if its gone. As far as sleeper goes.....research EJ swaps. basically the engine from a legacy or something of that nature. egr light: programmed to come on every x amount of miles thus prompting an inspection/service of the system. hth p.s. kudos to you, new guy for finding the search function when so many others have not
  14. in my experience with this method, which is getting up there, ive seen a variety of time needed. it seems the more overheated the engine got, the more warped the heads are, the moer time you spend fixing em. after i hydrolocked and ruined my old bottom end i resurfaced the heads again in preperation for new block in it took around 10-15 minutes each. those same heads took hours the first time i did them after having bad hgs for months on end. If you can fit your thumbnail in the crack between the valves on any EA series engine, thats too big. otherwise put em back on. I feel that it is the duty of the machine shop to research any head in question and see things like, i dunno, factory bulletins about things of this nature

  16. pull the tubes out. then blow air back through them. no matter how hard you try you cant get a bowling ball through a funnel, but you can get it unstuck by reversing flow though
  17. it was an RS, not an RX. 2wd 3at, rear drums. Grey bumpers w red stripes. if I can find pics ill get the plate number
  18. i dont, sold it last summer. who on bogs green earth would ever convert to the worst trans ever on a car with 140k on it? only thing worse than a 3at is a 2wd 3at ...sorry for the tangent folks
