  1. I think it was the right move, I like it because it is something you don't see very often ( I can't recall ever seeing one here that was more than a parts car). Plus I like driving it a lot more, even if the wrx was faster and newer, it just didn't have the same feel as this.
  2. Sold my wrx yesterday so I can fund this project, and put most of it towards my house fund, so someday I can have a place of my own. But the remaining money went into this! I ordered new sway bars front and rear, links, bushings, and rack bushings all from whiteline. I also ordered a new steering wheel, master cylinder brace, and a boost gauge for now. I'll be ordering some more parts as I sell off my audi, and vw.
  3. Damn, good score. I loved my cobras! They are pretty done now, good thing I'm going five lug or I wouldn't know what to get for tires.
  4. Got to work on this some today! I swapped out my new wiper linkage, so nice to have that not hitting on the a pillar every time I turn them on. the worn section of the old one. Swapped on my prodrives today as well, the car is a bit low for how wide they are though, and now they rub on the fenders both front a rear. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it yet. I may roll the fenders, but I kind of have a thing against that. I may see if I can run a slightly smaller tire or something. Anyways it looks great with them.
  5. Thanks guys! I ordered up some parts for this, a few of them came in today. I have a new wiper linkage as this one is very worn due to it's north west life. I also got a new cts and knock sensor for it. I also ordered up some jdm parking lights. I can not wait for those to come in. I also hope to get my prodrives on this weekend!
  6. Thanks, I really like this car so far! We live in Vermont, we drove from 5 a.m. to almost 10 p.m, it was a pretty long day, but it felt nice to have a weekend at home to get out of road trip mode.
  7. Changed the valve cover gaskets, they actually looked fairly new, but the drivers side was leaking pretty good, the bottom of the head was all oil, and the up pipe was getting a pretty decent amount of it too. I also cleaned the valve covers while I was there. It basically made me had where I live, just a little scrubbing in the parts washer and they looked like new, if the car had been here it's whole life they would have been very corroded, like the ones on my other car... I also replaced some of the very hard and brittle pvc lines with some silicon based hoses I had at work. Up next I need to figure out what the check engine light comes on for occasionally, maybe tomorrow night. The abs light is also on, but I think that system may not be around a lot longer, never cared for abs, it just has a bad history of being a garage door killer at my house...
  8. This thing is sweet! You have any plans for it, or are you just going to leave it a lone and enjoy it? Really wish my wagon had that sunroof!
  9. I brought this to work today, and got to do some maintenance, and swap out some broken/worn stuff that has driven me crazy over the lask 4k. First off I changed all of the fluids, including the brake fluid, and clutch master fluid. All of them looked pretty good, with the exception of the gear oil in the trans, it was pretty nasty looking, it was also over filled by a decent amount. New stuff! I also changed out all of the filters good thing I did, the air filter took a beating in the sand storms All of the stuff next to it is the sand that came out of it... I also washed it, inside and out, and pulled some of the stickers off, I left the Oregon state on in the rear quarter window She cleans up pretty well. I also did my first mod to it! I gave the rear taillights the same treatment as my wagon, I will say it is much easier to do on a sedan, I didn't even have to bake them! Before After I also swapped out my seat belts, as one of them no longer retracted, swapped a couple of trim pieces out of my parts car and changed out the shift knob for a non worn out one.
  10. This is the point where we started running into some pretty crazy weather due to the storm walda that was taking up most of the country. Outside of Redding we ran into snow! This became a problem as the tires that came with the car were sketchy at best.... Other wise this would have not bothered me at all being from the northeast I'm used to snow, and bad driving conditions. And as we started going south it got worse, it looked like this for most of the time were were driving from Redding to Reno And then outside of Vegas, sandstorms, some of them mixed with snow. This was about the time one of the tires gave up as well, the old tires couldn't take the constant 80mph and one of the belts in the LF gave up causing it to shake at lower speeds. By the time we got to the Hoover Dam things started to clear up. What an amazing place this is you could actually hear the power lines. The next day in Flagstaff AZ we got some more weather, I also broke down and got new tires to get me home, the last road trip I took I lost 3, I wasn't going to let that happen, so after talking to the guy at the front desk I found anderson tire was a good local place. Everything went pretty smooth minus some more rain and snow until we got into texas, where it started to get super windy, and we had some crazy sand storms. After that there was some ice, rain, more ice, cars, trucks, campers upside-down off the road everywhere but I gave up taking photos at this point as I was trying to get home, the next real stop was seeing our friend in Tennessee who has a pretty cool collection of cars now. Including his now two oner Lincoln Continental And his honda ruckus After that my dad and I drove home in a day. We put on 4410 miles in a week, and the car was great except a few small issues, now I just need to sell off some of my fleet so I can start building it up!
  11. Well I found a pre facelift sedan on bbs, the only problem was it was across the country. I've been looking for one for these for the last few years, and I made the decision to bite the bullet and make one heck of a trip across the country. Last friday I took a bus to Boston with my Dad, and then a plane to portland. A day later (after visiting the evergreen air and space museum) Here are some pics of that, A giant carburetor from the spruce goose Felt so nice to see green grass again! I purchased the car from a forum member and and started driving home later that day, the small oil leak, turned out to be not so small, and we were loosing about a quart every 100 miles or so. So we went to an autozone planing on fixing it the driveway when we started talking to this really cool VW owner, and he offered his garage to us! So in Grants Pass Oregon Dad and I fixed the leaking oil cooler. California! We drove along rt 199 into the redwood forest, and then 299 into redding california which were two of the most amazing roads I have driven in my life, they were absolutely amazing both as far as view goes, and the roads were the super curvy canyon roads, unfortunately I don't have any pics of the roads as I was focused mostly on driving, but I do have some pics of the car in several places along the roads. The Pacific
  12. Good progress! I can't wait to get home and start working on mine over the next few weekends!
  13. Looks great! I dig the wheels on there.
  14. Got my holes cut to run my harness. I still need to pick up some hose to glue on to the shape edges so the harness doesn't get worn into. The new lights This is where the harness is going on the drivers side. After some welding, grinding, filing, and paint. cut out some shapes to fill in holes that will no longer be used. This is to fill the hole more in the center of the photo. The one in the lower right is the one I cut to run the harness. And where the harness goes back into the car on the passenger's side.
  15. Thanks man! Yours is looking great as well! The front suspension I still have to figure out. I know I need to have the control arms re-tapered I'll be using front spindles off a newer ej car, probably a 2000 forester I have around. The brakes will be off a 97 outback (dual pistons) And I'll be mismatching the cv's using the outer drivers for a newer ej car. As far as the struts go I'm not sure. I've tried to use ej struts in an ea81 body before and it doesn't work as the top spring plates hit the towers. I was thinking of trying to modify stock struts to fit the lower section of an ej strut (just the mounting points), or getting some coil sleeves for ej struts. Rear brakes are going to be ej, with xt6 fwd hubs, hopefully a ej e-brake, and cables will work as I plan on using ej rear backing plates too. But I would like to finish up the five lug first before I start on all the suspension stuff. Hopefully I'll sell my audi as well so I can have some extra cash too.... In other news I picked up a hole saw to rout my harness (hopefully this weekend) And my hella h4 headlight conversion came in!
  16. Well that was crazy fast! The wheels came in today, now I just have to figure out what to wrap them in, and find someone to retaper my control arms for ej ball joints! I still have to get lug nuts for them, and center caps from other enkei wheels as they don't offer them for these.
  17. The rust seems to be a way of life up here, most of us just get used to it. This car was still savable so I fixed it, it it had been much worse I would have just found another from elsewhere in the country. I never drove it cross country, I picked up parts while taking a road trip in a 350 dollar volvo. But thanks for the complements! Anyway, today I got the harness pulled out. I also removed the tire jack mount (I'm just going to put the jack under one of the front seats) And I also removed the battery box as I'll be moving that to the opposite side of the car due to the air intake location. I wanted it too look factory in there when I'm all finished with it. I'm also going to sand down the bay and paint it again while I have it all apart. Here's some pics of the progress. It turns out that I won't be able to run the harness the way I wanted to on the driver's side due to the fuel line locations, but I should be able to make it work. I also ordered some parts for it today including hella H4 headlights, ss brake lines for when I do the brake swap, and I'm hopefully going to be ordering my wheels tonight.
  18. Long time no post, I've been too busy flipping some cars to work on my own. Today I got a chance to bring the wagon in and start prepping it for the fi swap, and wire tuck. Probably going to start on the five lug swap soon as well. I need to buy my wheels and then I can start that! Anyway a few pics from today. Also deleted the ac, there's no longer room for it in this bay, plus it didn't work. Also weight reduction yo. Also since my last post I picked up a 93 legacy ss for 900 bucks ($300 was the wheels) 270k and rusty as can be, but very fun fun so far!
  19. I have the same problem right now with my wrx, the turbocharged cars have a tendency to dry out the passenger's side valve cover gasket, causing oil to leak on the exhaust. The oil line out of the turbo into the passenger's side head is also a common place for a leak.
  20. It has power mirrors, nice! Looks like it's a pretty highly optioned one, congrats on the purchase!
  21. Very nice, I love those alloys too. I have them on my 82 wagon, I think they are the best looking factory wheel these came with.
  22. Well I went and got my RS five spokes tonight, I probably should have waited due to how bad the roads were. I had to go over a mountain pass, and I knew it was bad around the time the suv behind me passed me in the oncoming lane sideways... Props to the outback I have been driving, the thing is a tank! Anyway I got the wheels, and they need to be painted, but are in super nice shape. My outback after tonights drive (turned over 226k too!) My new wheels, they need paint, silver if they go on the brat, gold if they go on this
  23. Picking up some RS five spokes tomorrow, either for this or the brat!
  24. I love that cluster in there. Great work. Every time I see an update on this I start drooling.
