Brought my loyale home last night. It keeps fighting me. It didn't want to start up last night. After taking (breaking one of the bolts) the cap off the disti and cleaning the contacts it started up, but that was also after I brought it inside. I think the CTS could be acting up and the idle air could be cleaned. After it warms up it runs awesome. I can't wait for fi!

Never had an 88, I had the both the body style before (a 4x4 wagon), and after (1992 sedan). My wagon I liked because I made good money off from it, and it was fun to drive around in bad weather. The 92 I had, I hated as it was neglected before I owned it, and had many engine issues that I had to sort out Both were pretty fun little cars, and got great milage. It should treat you well as along as it has been taken care of!

I wish I had an update... I've been so busy at work that I haven't gotten much done on this. Really I've only been driving it, and not really that often. I've been carpooling to work so I save money. Also the garage where I do my projects is currently holding my VW beetle.

Been researching the swap pretty heavily, I'm putting this link here for my own reference. Looks like a pretty strait forward swap. I need to find one of my spare hitachi distys for an ea81, but that should be no big deal. I'm most concerned about the two switches discussed in the write up for the peddle assembly. And swapping the disty gears, I'm sure I can figure something out. http://www.leoneturbo.com/docs/EA81_SPI_guide.pdf

Nice! It is identical to my 82 (before I painted it anyway) Have any future plans?

That's what I'm hoping for both an increase in power and milage! speaking of which, I got my loyale running today! It was slow at work, which is amazing for tires season, so I had some free time to mess around with it. I had to put a new (used) fuel pump in it because it was leaking everywhere. I also had to run a temporary line from the pump to the fuel filter to get it to run, the old one was spraying almost as much fuel as the pump After I got that done, the thing still wouldn't run. (gas helps) after that was added, at first it really didn't run well at all, it has something to do with ancient fuel.... (sitting for 2+ years not running) So I added fresh gas and seafoam to it and cleaned the mass air, and buy the time I went home it would even idle at a normal rpm I drove it around the driveway at the shop, no brakes or exhaust made for a fun time Here it is in all of its glory. Where it idled for the first half an hour if you revved it up at all, it would die coming back down to idle, the lifters were also making a hell of a noise at this point. They calmed down to no noise at all after running a while! After a bit of work.

Picked up a rusty pile of a loyale today! So a FI swap is in the making  other than that I really haven't been doing much too this. My VW is taking all my time, money, and garage space but man is it coming out good! I'll be able to start work on this again soon!

Do you have any pictures of the headlight mounts? Are they for the round headlight style or the square?
Thanks,

I go both ways on that rubber trim, I left it on my most recent legacy. I took it off from my last legacy, and found out the hard way that the sand put on the roads can take all of the paint off in that area in one winter. I greased under it on my newer legacy, and I take it off to wash the salt out every so often.

Imprezas seem to rust a bit faster than the legacys, at least from my experience. A good undercoat will go a long way in preventing rust. Some people use oil based products, this year I used fluid film which is lanolin based, but I can't tell you how it holds up yet as its the first time I've used it. Washing the salt off periodically will help. I usually do mine once a week or so depending on weather. Mud flaps can be a good investment. Keeping salt off your car and rocks from chipping the paint can go a long way. A good coat of wax can help as well. Both of your cars will do fine in the snow/ice. I've always found the imprezas a bit more fun in the snow though..... But if you don't want them to rust, don't drive them in the salt. Buy a car you dedicate to the winter. Even driving the beaters in the salt makes me cringe. As my friend puts it "You can hear your car rusting as you drive"

You should sell me the lh headlight bucket so I have all the parts to do mine I really do think they look great. Both Bratman's brat and the gl wagon above made me decide to convert my 84.

I'm with you on the red stitching, I don't think it would go ver well with the rest of the interior. I think the three spokes (or split three spokes) look great in ea81's. I love the wheel I picked up for mine, it really made a difference in driving feel. Plus it looks cool

I will say I did in no way steal the sighs I'm using. They were given to me by the state garage down the street from where I work for this purpose. Tonight I stayed after work for a while and decided to mount my road sign. Came out pretty well. I still have some more mounts to make for it and attach it in a few more spots. I also may add another small section that goes from the current skit plate to the transmission crossmember. Over all I'm very pleased with it. These are the rear mounts I made tonight using some square stock, nuts, and plate steel. They mount to the plate below the power steering rack. I also undercoated this last week. I'm doing my best to keep the rust and salt away. I used a new product I have never used before. Its called Fluid Film. I'm interested to see how it hold up over this winter. So far I'm very happy with how it sprayed, and how it has stuck to the car.

This thread explains how I made them in some detail. http://www.newenglandsubarus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19873&page=12 I think the stock bulbs are h4's Stock projector headlights were installed in other countries for the second gen legacy, you can come across them pretty easily. I think they have to be re aimed for our roads (we drive on the other side) I don't know what is involved in doing that.

Any interest in new Gen 2 Brat gas tanks?

For that price I would most certainly be interested -

I'd love one, or two. All my 4x4s are rusted and leaking. I'd be interested depending on price. And I don't care if they are smaller as along as they hold fuel. -
Wicked rusty, most of it is missing. But it has two nice fenders in the back. I still don't know if I have it yet, but if I end up with it I'll be sure to let you know!

Thanks man! it's one of my favorite mods that I have done to the car, I absolutely love that wheel. On another note I made an offer on a loyale at work today. I'm not sure if they guy is going to sell it to me for my offer, but it would be sick to have FI in this thing

Changed the oil tonight. Checked all the fluids and got it ready for its final trip of the year. After that I'll have to wait until the beetle is out of the garage for some modifications

Driving this down to my friends in Mass this weekend. It will probably be this things last drive of the season They'll be salting the roads soon so its getting time to put it up. But while its off the road I'll get to make some improvements

Looking good, I like the rack delete! Interior is much better -
Thanks! Its still not as loud as I would like, I may get a different muffler at some point, but this will do for now. Last nights project looked a bit like this. It is so much nicer with the new bearing installed. I only drove it with the bad one for a day before I couldn't take it anymore! Also I snapped a quick photo when I got home. Fall colors are really setting in around here...

Put a new oil pan on tonight. Unfortunately there was some clearance issues between the larger style oil pan and the headers so some modifications where made (hammer). The headers went on pretty easy after that after modifying the new style converter (The flange was rusty, so I replaced it) I also have a wheel bearing on its way out. Really started making noise today, I'll be putting one in the right front in the next few days. I have a video as well if anyone wants to give it a listen. Current set up is UEL headers, new style cat, glass pack in the center pipe, and a 2002 wrx axel back. http://s1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb463/1982gl4/Leggy/?action=view¤t=1-16.jpg#!oZZ2QQcurrentZZhttp%3A%2F%2Fs1207.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fbb463%2F1982gl4%2FLeggy%2F%3Faction%3Dview%26current%3DIMG_0890.mp4
