We see a lot of rust up this way, I'm already seeing 2004 imprezas/legacys with floor/subframe issues, but I have yet to see a newer gen car like this with a total structural failure. We have a truck and a trailer we use to hall cars off for scrap, we had to push it on with the tractor as it no longer sits high enough to get over the ramps

It does, I had to modify my y pipe after swapping engines out earlier this summer. Then engine I put in had the blocks removed when i installed it in my brat a few years ago. It made quite a racket on the way into work being not fully attached to the engine....

That is looking so good! What wheels are those, they look like enkei RS-G4's? They look amazing, I've been looking at those for when I swap to 5 lug....

Yeah we see some rusty ones up here, but this is the first time I have seen a legacy get this bad. All the old gens have been gone for years. Usually they body gets too far gone to pass inspection and people scrap them. That or the subframes detach themselves from the car and the owners give up on them. Tuesday it goes for scrap. I pulled the perfectly running 2.2 out this morning. I may have found an Outback shell to swap it into...

Indeed it is! Even though I have worked on a ton of these cars in the north east I have yet to see one do this. Usually the subframes give out long before and people decide to give up on them at that point. Died at a young age of 168k.

This trip takes place on a dead end road, with very little traffic/residents and at about 10 mph, no harm was done to anything except the car during the trip. I would never do anything like this in traffic, or around a populated area. Well I can assure you, this will make you feel much better. I picked this car up about a mile from my house for a good drivetrain. I'm hoping to trade the 2.2 for my next project... Anyway when I showed up the car had a stump holding the rear strut away from the roof, I knew it could only get better from there.... So I purchase the car for a very small sum and start it up runs great, I decide to make the trip home. I pull out of the dudes driveway and the tire the stump is holding up is locked, in turn this causes the stump to fall out, all is good as this lets the tire turn freely :-p The ride goes well for about 1/4 a mile. At this point the smoke has filled the cabin to the point I can no longer see, due to the tire rubbing on the body (in fact I can still smell the rubber on myself over an hour later) I pull over for a second to let it air out. I make the rest of the smelly smoky trip fine until the tire explodes about five feet from my driveway, luckily the tow hook was still solid and attached to the car keeping it off the ground and providing me with support to make it the rest of the way to the cars final resting place, in front of the garage. These are the good ones...

Also ea81's have issues with the cable from the battery to the starter. They are made from aluminum and have big corrosion issues up here in the north east. My brat had all kinds of starting issues before I replaced it with a copper one.

I don't, but it is very easy. On the plug on the back of the compass all of the wires are labeled except for one, which I believe I left on hooked. Also make sure it is below the radio if you are putting it in the dash like I did. If it is placed above it the compass will not read correctly. Trust me I know they use rtv, I have no idea why anyone would have put one in, I don't even use them on my ea81's which came with them

Thanks man! This car is an absolute blast, I love how easy everything is to swap over from other models as well! Here's a pic of the goodies I just got in. New headers My underside protection I need to take the cat off my outback parts so I have the right type of car for the header. I'll have to make it work with the rest of my system, but that shouldn't be an issue as I work at an exhaust shop I also have to grab a few other things of the outback, I think I can make the tweeters work in my doors, I also still need to make that hood I have been planing on for ages... The car needs a bit of work before winter, I'll have to change all the fluids, needs hoses this year, touch up the little bit of rust on the hatch, fender, and door. I also have to reseal the oil pan as I never got to it last year, that cork gasket sketches me out. I have no idea why anyone would have put one of those in. So a fair amount of work before winter, but it should make for some good thread updates

Picked up some aluminum street signs for skid plates for this the girl I sold my old legacy to works at the state garage, and hooked me up with 4 large signs. I also picked up some UEL headers for this! I'm waiting for those to come in so I can fit my signs.

Wow that's a dirty interior. When they get that bad I just swap them out zzz Also feel lucky you have a hatch spoiler they are pretty hard to find, I think they add a nice touch hence why I added one to my legacy!

I love that car, I can't wait to do the single round headlight conversion to mine. I just need to find the other headlight bucket which is proving to be difficult... Anyway a couple new ones from my interior, and one with my wrx

Well the wheel is on. I didn't take a ton of photos as I was in a hurry to leave work tonight. I didn't want to be there super late. So here are a few from tonight. Started with a 1 7/8 section of 3 inch pipe. I ended up stretching it to near 3.5 by the time I was done. What I used from the old wheel. after that I welded it, and then made the front for it using some thick steel I had kicking around at work. Sorry no more pics of the process as I really was more focused on finishing it than taking more pics I still have a bit more work left, but the wheel is on the car and looks a feels great. Basically I need to flock it and it will be set.

The early legacy's are a pleasure to own. I have owned 2 of them at this point. My first being a 92 LS auto with 230k and I now have traded that for a 92 L (was auto now a five speed) with 200k both have been super reliable. They are truly great cars. I really can't think of a down fall to them except for maybe the auto seat belts (you get used to them they never really bothered me to begin with) and in the salt belt they do like to rust, but so does everything else... You should have a good car that will last you a long time if well taken care of!

New steering wheel came in tonight! I'm so psyched to make an adaptor tomorrow after work so I can get this thing on. It feels perfect in every way it's very light, the finish is awesome, and the actual wheel is pretty thin which I like. I'm not a fan of really fat wheels. I'll make sure to post photos of the process of making an adaptor out of an old wheel as well.

You're lucky you had any rockers left at all, I didn't have enough left of them to patch! Your repairs are look great, can't wait to see this together

Those came out really nice! If I was going to keep my quads I would probably do this. Can't wait to see them on the car.

Awesome thanks for the info. I know a few shops around that could probably do it! That thought didn't even cross my mind! The place that built my driveshaft for the brat probably can help me out. Now I just have to figure out what to use for struts....

Yeah I love the look, and thought it would go well with my hatch area I can't wait to have it in hand and try it out!

Spent some money on this today... I'm going to make an adapter using a stock wheel, I have a 2 spoke that is all worn out and the outside has separated from the steel frame so no loss cutting it up... I'll also be using steel tubing along with some steel plate so it should be very strong when it is all finished. And of course I'll be flocking it

I couldn't tell you there. Never tried putting new gen seats in one of mine. I know the recaros where a very tight fit as far as width goes. I can't slide them forward very far with the fwd console (gets wider towards the front unlike the 4wds) as the seats start hitting it, which worked out fine for me as I'm 6ft and don't need to move them forward. It can make the rear seat space a bit tight. I hear you on needing to do something with it though, they are pretty cramped inside.

Different seats. or move the stock ones back a bit on the rails. I put those recaros in mine and it made a world of difference.
