I made a spacer for my 82, it worked fine. I also strengthened that bracket, as I found it weak. I added another brace that went back to the intake.

It was blue, and it's going to be again, but the original color this time around. I had to bring it down to metal due to all the bondo (and duct tape on the back side) that was used to fill the trim holes. At this point in its life it had all cracked off and started rust. Luckily surface rust and it sanded out! I don't think wanting to do a pro job on this, is too extreme for it. Look what I did to mine. There aren't many of them left some one has to keep them going and looking great! I think the matt jams would look great. It would offset the white nicely along with the blue interior. It may make the door gaps stick out a bit more as well (in a good way) I painted my trim pieces for the rear hatch semigloss black, and they very well with both the interior and exterior color.

Yeah it's basically a shell, far more dismantled than my GL ever got. Hopefully you don't have to take this car down as far, it's been a pain. I don't want to think about how many sanding discs I have used in the last 3 days.

The bay is looking nice. Good idea replacing the hoses. I had one of mine blow out on the way to work one morning, made for an interesting start to the day... I hear you on the heat it was like 90*+ the last three days, and I've been sanding on the VW...

The Awesome Older Generation Picture Thread

I'm just going to put these here.... -
I'm not sure what is going on with your lights. Something is up with them I'm sure you'll find the problem soon enough. The wing mirrors do work very well. I've grown pretty found of them, the have awesome visibility for the lane changes as well!
-
Some very nice sedans you have there! Can't wait to see progress on the GL, love the fwd's!
-
Yeah the pics were taken with an I phone, not bad in my mind all things considered! I have the opposite problem, my hellas overpower my normal lights. They are mounted directly to the bumper, I feel like if they were rubber mounted it would cause more issues as they would be able to move around more. I haven't noticed any vibration issues at all, although I have yet to drive it over a rough back road with them. My legacy bothers a bit, but I made mounts which could have been built stronger. That's soon to be corrected.

Drove this around tonight with the hellas, and man they are bright, blinding actually. Its so nice on the back roads around here. I just have to remember to flick them off for oncoming traffic. I also noticed the brake lights were out on my way home, luckily just a fuse, hopefully it was just a fluke and I won't have to deal with wiring.... I also took some nice photos today. Oh almost forgot, this car won ride of them month on the local forum I belong to.

Seen this over on MV/Brat/Brumby! Very clean, and very well done. Nice to see you on USMB!

Sure did! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=126022&page=7 It's cracked in a new spot above the glove box since, nothing I did, just the vinyl is so brittle from its formal west coast life. Someday I may fix it. It's not right in front of me anymore so I don't notice it as much.

Well I got everything working! I can't wait to try these out at night! I put the switch in. Even the light still works I wired them in separate from the lights so I can use them anytime.
-
Thanks! I'm really liking how this car is coming together myself! This morning I worked on my fog light switch. I found out the problem with it was a pin that had fallen out. Unfortunately it was missing so I made a new one for it using a timing belt tensioner pin. I had to take apart my good switch to find out what the pin looked like, luckily it was very easy to replicate. And now I have a working factory switch. I'll be putting it in shortly.
-
Put my hellas on today. It took a long time after work today. Much more time than I wanted to spend on it anyway. They still don't work due to the crappy switch they sent me, it broke on it's way into the spot I made for it in the dash. I have an original one I may put in if I can get it to work, but it doesn't stay in the on position. If that doesn't work I'll pull one out of a legacy parts car I have.
-
It wasn't awful. I used a cutting wheel I use for everything. The corners are a bit off, but came out pretty well for someone that is used to working with metal. My hellas came in today! I can't wait to put them on tomorrow after work!
-
I made my own throttle cable mount using the factory one, and welding to it. I'll try to take it some photos of it at some point it's raining again now (imagine that ) I'll post them up when I do!
-
Now that you mention it I think yes! So I'll probably do that when they come in! Yeah it's hard to hate the 80's look. I found them on ebay for quite a bit less than a new kit. I have issues restraining myself when it comes to buying parts. I may get some mudflaps next. I'm thinking about the Rallyarmor basics.

As of tonight I have ordered some driving lights for this beast. I think they are pretty fitting. I may dye them yellow eventually. I can't wait for them to come in.

I got some free time to work on this today, and did something I've been meaning to do for a while. This idea came from a Peugeot 504 my friend has. I'm really pleased with the way it came out! I also gave my front seats a temporary fix that looks much better than the ripped up/taped cushion from the previous owner. Plus I get the shirts free from work! And just a random shot for fun.
-
Thanks eman! Your build is coming along awesome as well. I can't no wait to see that car back together! I swapped out my alternator for a spare today, and I know for sure my other one was on the way out. It's now charging 14v at idle, I could only get about 13.6 at 2000rpm with the old one. Hopefully this one will last and I wont have any more issues with the charging system for a while.
-
Odd, my 84 the outers only light up, inners are high beams. Having all four lit up would look awesome...but may be a bit bright for oncoming traffic.
-
Fixed my alternator issue, or one of them anyway. One of the wires had pulled out of the plug. I replaced the plug with one from a legacy harness I had around. It's still not charging what I would like. I'm going to swap out the alt with a spare one I have tomorrow and see if that fixes the issue. My battery also may have given up, it's relatively new, but doesn't seem to want to hold a charge....

True fact. Do not use the blue stuff, been down that road. It works well to tape things off, but it will eternally be stuck to your car. My dad made that mistake, and I'm still finding it in places on his benz. I've had really good luck using the 3m green tape, you can get it at most parts stores, and I think even wall-mart sells it in the automotive section.
